NH Lagos Algarve Resort

Stayed for 4 nights in June at the NH Lagos resort and had an enjoyable stay despite having some hesitations from reading reviews before I arrived.

The hotel is dated in places and there is no way to sugarcoat it but the rooms which have been updated are pretty good so you do need to choose your room wisely when booking otherwise you will get what you paid for.

Checking in took ages and then you had to wait for someone to guide you to your room but I think most people would find there way if they just handed you a map and pointed in the direction that you need to go in. Granted there is 296 rooms and it's spread over a large area but I'm sure you would not get lost.

The room (Superior room with view) was a good size, spotless clean, contemporary in places where it had been upgraded but dated elsewhere (the wardrobe space) The bed was very, very comfortable, nice crisp white linens. The curtains blocked the morning light except for a few random holes in places here and there.

The bathroom was spacious, plenty of counter space, soft bathrobes, lots of towels and the walk-in shower was easy to use and clean. The small balcony overlooked the pool and it never got noisy either in the morning or evening. Fridge/minibar and kettle to make tea or coffee. Complimentary bottle of water every day was a nice touch. The TV was brand new and the wifi worked very well too.

The pool itself was refreshing but in need of repair around the edges but I guess that's a big job for the low season. As ever people did reserve the loungers and place towels and the such from early morning and not use them until gone 10 or 11 - nothing was ever done. It was easy to change your pool towels as and when you needed at the hut in exchange for your towel token.

Breakfast was superb, plenty of choice so you will not go hungry or thirsty, there was even sparkling wine so have a glass or 2 as you are on vacation. My only criticism would be that the room numbers are not checked against a live database to see if the room included breakfast, it just seemed everybody had breakfast included in their rate ?

Parking was free in the outside car park and €8 in the covered underground car park. There was a small library , business center and lots of places to hid away and read a book. Bars both inside and outside on the pool deck too.

The staff were mostly good, helpful but sometimes over worked.

The location is superb, walking distance to old town or over the bridge to the marina and train station. There's a Pingo Doce supermarket a few minutes away on Avenida da República and the bus station is very near the hotel too. There is also a variety of bars and restaurants on the street outside the hotel if you did not want to venture too far. Enjoy your time at the NH Lagos if you decide to stay there.

Stayed here for a week to celebrate a friend’s 60th birthday. After reading previous reviews decided to upgrade to a pool view room & was glad I did , great location. Would have no problem with staying here again the staff throughout the hotel couldn’t do enough for you , lovely reception as you walked in & a very pleasant bar area , yes it’s a bit tired in areas but overall I found it a very pleasant hotel to stay in & would happily return.

Hotel reception & bar areas are nicely decorated & staff are friendly & helpful, however, the rooms we stayed in are tired and mine & my friends room we shared had a cockroach in it! The pool area & views of the building all need a lick of paint & upgrade, which looks like it is gradually taking place. We booked a group few days away to watch some of the World Cup in Lagos & had a great time. Made sure we had a package break to be covered for delays or cancellation. Overall the hotel needs some investment to bring it up to standard. Plenty of choice at breakfast time.
