This cosy, family-run hotel is excellently located in the centre of the charming town of Lagos, overlooking the promenade and the marina. The historic old town with its picturesque streets, shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars and attractions such as the ancient slave market or the statue of Henry the Navigator is just a few steps away. The sandy beaches of Meia-Praia and Dona Ana and several excellent golf courses are within easy reach.
Third visit to this hotel which is absolutely perfect. Probably the best hotel we have stayed in in Europe. Highly recommended. Our previous reviews cover all the things we love about this hotel.
We stayed in Hotel Marina Rio for 3 days and our experience was great! The room is spacious with a large balcony facing the Marina. It is very convenient to dry our swimming suits. It is very near to bus station and we don’t have to walk a lot with our luggage. It is also very near to the Marina and it is just a few minutes walk to the pick-up point of water activities. The breakfast was tasty. Although there are not many varieties, each type of food tastes good. We enjoyed our stay a lot and we definitely will choose this hotel again if we re-visit Lagos.
We have stayed here many times over the years. After a 3 year break, just enjoyed another week and delighted to find it better than ever. The attention to detail is remarkable - in rooms, at breakfast, on the roof terrace, and by the lovely staff. A really nice experience all round. Hard to see how it could be better!
Absolutely fabulous hotel in the marina and so accessable to restaurants bars and beach.Breakfast was amazing. All staff were so nice and extremely helpful. Hotel was absolutely spotless and having a kettle, coffee maker and fridge was a very welcome surprise, would absolutely recommend this hotel and will definitely go again
I don’t normally leave reviews but I feel I must in this case. I woke up in the night to discover an infestation of ants all over my toiletries and earrings. When I reported this to the night porter he blamed an empty salad box in my bin - though there is no sign saying not to do this. And you should be able to eat food in a hotel room without worrying about ants. He sprayed an insect repellent and closed the balcony door, so that I’d be trapped breathing in and worrying about whatever spray he had used all night long.
I didn’t sleep one wink! Video evidence taken. And I had paid for a clean hotel room!!
The next morning the receptionist laughed at my complaint and said although there were other rooms available for me to move to, that they wouldn’t move me as they wanted to “treat the problem”. I emailed and spoke to the manager and was given the response in writing that “ants do not pose a health risk” and “there was no need to disinfect your things” (ants do in fact carry bacteria) She was argumentative and so I had little choice but to accept what she’d offered.
After taking no responsibility, or even offering an apology, they resolved to give me a free breakfast worth 12 euros. I understand that an ant infestation could happen anywhere, but the hotels poor response was baffling to me - it’s meant to be a 4 star hotel! Unbelievable.
Be warned, don’t book this hotel because if anything goes wrong you are on your own!
PLEASE read the other 1 or 2 star reviews, I’m not the only one who experienced ants or poor service! Although Marina Rio is a nice building, it is ruined by poor management, and you only need to look at this hotel’s responses to guests on tripadvisor to the bad reviews - They never apologise and they always blame the customer!
