Excellent stay at Occidential
Lovely hotel, great location, clean and comfortable. Roof top pool and restaurant absolutely gorgeous, a great view of the marina and a great place to watch the sun go down on Faro
Great stay
In Faro for six days to celebrate the birthday of my twin brother and me,we stayed in the Occidental Hotel and what a stay. Booked in very quickly, allocated a beautiful room on the first floor, room was lovely, two comfortable twin beds,lots of storage space ,flat screen tv,tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge and superb A.C . We were bed & breakfast, dining area on the 4th floor ,amazing, lots of choice both hot & cold, delicious drinks and the views afforded from the terrace were awesome, the bar was also fantastic, enjoyed drinks here before going out at night,the hotel offers sauna and a rooftop pool and gives free transfers to the beach and the location is amazing, in the heart of this fascinating city, a big shout out to all the staff here ,made our stay memorable even supplying a cake for our birthday on the 5th of October, couldn't fault anything about our stay here ,its the only hotel I will stay in on future holidays to Faro.

Indifferent staff and feathered friends
From the outside, the Occidental could easily be mistaken for a private hospital, an impression given by the clinical green neon lighting. This sterile, uninviting atmosphere carries through to the reception area, which offers no warmth of welcome to encourage guests to linger; it feels very much like a thoroughfare to be bypassed as quickly as possible.
The staff do little to improve the vibe. Generally solemn and unwilling to engage, even a simple smile seems a monumental effort. I was seldom acknowledged when passing the desk, day or night—a little training in basic pleasantries is sorely needed. After all, this is the hospitality sector they are working in, not a morgue!
On a positive note, the rooms are comfortable and the breakfast selection is good. However, the outdoor pool area is a major disappointment. It has fallen into disrepair with crumbling tiles and glass paneling that was absolutely filthy with smear marks throughout our stay. Most disconcerting was watching local pigeons use the water as a glorified bird bath between visits from unsuspecting guests, with no deterrents in place. A decent place to sleep, but the lack of hospitality and maintenance is glaring.

Beautiful view of the marina a plus! The breakfast was great and the hotel was close to the highlights of faro!
