Pestana Alvor Praia Beach and Golf Hotel

Just returned from another splendid holiday.Beautiful hotel( although busy) always very relaxing.Wonderful food with breakfast outstanding and looked forward to trying a different buffet each night.The staff are exceptional,working so hard.Special thanks this year to Patricia on Reception for her thoughtfulness on our arrival and Monica for making us feel so at home.Also, we much enjoyed the Pianist.Thanks to each staff member and we can't wait to return to admire the spectacular sunset once again!

Just returned from a 5 night break. Usually stay at Pestana Dom Joao but as we stayed at Pestana Alvor Praia hotel several times before about 10 years ago decided to give it another go. We had a lovely stay. Hotel was spotlessly clean and all the staff were great with a special mention to Patricia on reception who was always extremely helpful. The hotel is in a great location with direct beach access and lovely grounds. Breakfast had a great variety. The only issues we had were that the pool area has been changed to decking since our last stay which is all uneven and quite noisy and to be honest looked much better before and the sun loungers are extremely close to each other with no room to move them to for any space. Also the bed in the room was extremely hard which did affect our sleep.

Stayed here Oct 2025. Had to be evacuated to another room after a gas leak (refrigerant gas) in the room allocated to us on the 3rd floor of the hotel in the early hours of the morning. We were allocated a different room on the third floor and were told that our belongings in the gas leak room would be delivered to us directly at new location. Later that morning, before we attended breakfast we were visited by one of the hotel managers. With still the smell of the refrigerant in our nostrils and irritation in our throats we asked to have a medical examination. The manager first talked of arranging a hospital visit/medical examination. A short time later the manager advised that he had arranged for a doctor to visit and we should remain in the room until the doctor arrived. Suggesting that we could take the fresh air in the room's balcony until he arrived. We were still waiting for all our belongings and the doctor until 3 hours later. On arrival the doctor's examination consisted of putting an oximeter on our finger and declaring we were okay as our oxygen levels were normal. After he left we complained of not having a more thorough investigation. The manager suggested questioning the integrity of the doctor was in appropriate. We were offered a free dinner at the hotel with house drinks during our meal. At the end of our holiday at check out we asked again to speak to the manager. After waiting around an hour we got to speaking to a manager (a different manager). In discussing our concerns the manager outlined all that the hotel had done for us. Evacuation to another hotel room, arranging a visit of a doctor (both of which we felt was the very least of the hotel's obligations) and a free dinner that included drinks. I again voiced my concern of the minimal medical examination and that we intended to get a medical as soon as we returned home. For the disruption to our holiday the manager allowed a deduction of one night's stay from our 10 day holiday. Upon returning home we visited our local hospital within days of our return. After the initial examination which included blood pressure, and blood tests the hospital reported that I had a vitamin B12 deficiency. I follow up examination about a week later I was told the my B12 levels had returned to near normal and offering the refrigerant inhalation as the likely cause of the initial deficiency. Of course as one of the Pestana managers had said any medical taken later would be inefficient to lay the blame on the gas leak.
