We (group of 4 golfers)have been experiencing Penina Golf Courses for some 36 years and it still gives us so much pleasure to play there. It has to be said that there is a problem with the fairways with bare patches caused by the years of drought and then the wettest winter in living memory. The tees and greens are excellent with plenty of sand in the bunkers. It is obvious that remedial work is taking place on the fairways - evidence of slitting to relieve compaction. This is a brilliantly designed course (Henry Cotton) and has passed the test of time - still as enjoyable as when first laud down. The food in the golf bar and the grill was as good as ever and the staff extremely friendly. I have not commented on the Hotel accommodation simply because we do not stay there. Thank you to Penina for our years of enjoyment - some if will be back in July and again next year
Went for lunch with a friend and met up with another there. The staff are attentive but the food was awful. A caesar salad dripping in glue like sauce and largely inedible. All kitchens make mistakes and it was handled well by the staff but they refused to take it off the bill. I live locally as do the two friends. None of us will go back in a hurry. That’s three locals who eat out most days they’ve lost
Just left this wonderful hotel. Been coming here since 2010. All the staff are wonderful always going the extra mile. The owners are truly lucky to have you all. The buffett breakfast is the best and the Pimms in the bar wasn’t bad either. I speak for the 7 friends who accompany me - we are missing you already and looking forward to the next time.
A lovely charming place. The staff are excellent, attentive and friendly. The golf course has the right amount of challenges, play well and you score well. The Grill restaurant is superb, not tried the others on this visit but will be back this time next year.
Lovely and varied breakfast, friendly staff, huge pool and a decent golf course. The hotel is a bit of a throwback to yesteryear and although it is very clean and tidy, the room was a little tired and needed some attention as dd some of the exterior. Had an evening meal in the hotel once, it was lovely. The hotel/pool staff were all very friendly and helpful. The golf course was very good and a decent challenge for our standard of golf…again though a little bit of care of the bare patches on a few of the fairways would make a big difference to the aesthetics of the course. The ground staff were always out watering etc when we were there so maybe they’ll get this sorted. 10 mins in an Uber to Alvor for about 7 euro, ideal location.
