- Pelican Alvor

This comfortable hotel is set in Alvor. The premises count with 46 welcoming units. A refuge in the Algarve where the hustle and worries of everyday life are left behind. With several indoor and outdoor areas, there are spaces and activities for all ages, an invitation to enjoy quality moments with the family. It is not by chance that we chose the pelican to name the hotel. This animal symbolizes the strength of family bonds between parents and children.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

We booked a pool view room and was on second floor, typical public areas nice ,rooms shabby. Our room was a studio ( 2 old rooms knocked into one) they even left a false door in! The room was spacious but shabby, had a fully equipsd kitcgen but lots of knocks and skirting boards dirty, towel rails loose, mold in bathroom so didn't use the bath, cleaners very poor, didnt sweep, supposed to clean daily but forgot loo roll twice ( had to go to reception for it as cleaners had gone home and she was the only person in the hotel ......embarrassing) but the worst was when a large piece of wood fell on my head after opening the cupboard. I reported to reception, the male receptionist didn't seem bothered ( no sorry) and said after my request to fix immediately " I'll see what I can do". I phoned jet2 to complain as there is no rep in this hotel, it worked as Manuel came, sorry " Bodgit and scarper" came, what a job he did. I feel sorry for the next people in this room as the wardrobe/ cupboard is about to collapse. The gardens are nice, pool clean but as you'll see there's lots of nature around there has been rats reported in the kids pool area on other feedbacks if you look, Alvor is beautiful, restaurants are amazing ( most) and the boardwalk area stunning, I'd give this one a miss and find a better hotel. As a frequent traveller I'm aware of standards, I'd rate this 2 star for rooms. 4 star for public areas. I've added pics of the poor room but also Alvor, don't be put off in coming to Alvor, it's our second visit after staying in the Pestano chain, wish we'd gone there.
Go to the Pheonix, British family cooking good food and good prices, avoid (4Rais) and ( pull the bear) small portions and high prices , the leinster pub was accommodating, jolly bar cheap and cheerful, Russ Abbot , sorry I mean Dave will entertain you.
I have stayed at this lovely hotel several times over the years and it is always a good experience. The apartments are extremely spacious and have everything you need for a pleasant holiday, they are very clean with daily maid service. The location is very tranquil with beautiful garden surroundings. There is a bar which serves drinks until late evening and lunch during the day. It is an extra charge to opt for breakfast, which is well worth it as it is very good with plenty of choice considering it is a small hotel. There are gluten free options available if you inform reception on check in and this information is communicated to the breakfast room staff, who have your gluten free carbs ready for you each breakfast time. I would definitely recommend this small hotel and will certainly be visiting again.
3rd time here out of our 10 visits tha Alvor, Friendly , attentive staff, on reception, at the bar and cleaning our room. Big spacious rooms, large, comfy bed and lovely balcony. Reported a broken shower hose at 7pm and it was as replaced next morning The pool area is nice but may need a little titivating , but the gardens are lovely Will be back, although I might hire a car from the airport next year so I don’t have to share a bus back to Faro with the worlds “ funniest” man
Stayed for 1 week. Apartment was spacious and clean, initially we were disappointed to be at the front overlooking the car park but we did get the evening sun and was lovely to sit out each evening and enjoy a glass of wine. We found the rooms to be quiet and didn’t ever hear our neighbours. The staff in the bar were all very friendly and the lunches and drinks were excellent value. Around the pool was so quiet and could always get a sun bed at anytime of the day. The location is fabulous, close to a great supermarket and 9 minutes for us to walk into town. We enjoyed daily long walks on the beach and board walks. Overall we felt like we got the holiday that we expected to get and would definitely return. There seemed to be lots of repeat guests.
My partner and myself stayed at The Pelican Hotel 23rd September until 30th September 2026. We had a brilliant time until the final evening when a family from England arrived on 29th September. The hotel had been tranquil peaceful for the week. At 1am on 30th September this family caused merry hell in the hotel. So noisy and unruly. My partner phoned reception to complain but the noise persisted until 2am. I think hotels like the Pelican should operate a zero tolerance for such behaviour. We were making plans to return next year but we're now reconsidering just because we might be subjected to a full week of anti social behaviour with nothing being done to stop this hooligan behaviour
