PortoBay Blue Ocean

Just returned from our second stay this year at this lovely hotel. Our second visit just as good as our first. We are regulars to the Cliff Bay Hotel in Madeira, and can see similar touches at the Blue Ocean, which we love. We loved our room and the view was amazing. We ate all our meals at the hotel, and highly recommend them. Staff are amazing and work really hard. Always made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive and depart. Helpful Reception team very efficient. Absolutely adorable housekeeping from Silvia, and was great to see Oxsana again (housekeeping) from our previous visit, just like family. Janak and Vanda in the restaurant so helpful, professional and friendly at dinner. Vanda always greeted us with a wonderful smile, so cheerful at breakfast it made us very happy. Our room was very clean, but needed some hooks to hang our towels on, and the shower a tad slow draining, but overall ten out of ten. We enjoyed morning coffee and lunch at the pool bar and our thanks to Harry he is top man. The grounds are beautifully kept, and the adult pool area has amazing wild flowers which sway in the breeze, fabulous! The hotel management are truly professional and very friendly. They are doing a great job in keeping standards high. The bar is comfortable and has live music, ranging from classical pieces to sophisticated pop music. This hotel is a four star, but you could think you were in a five star hotel. Dinner is smart casual. It’s a sophisticated hotel. We walked to the fishing village every morning before it got too hot and there are shops, pharmacies and small supermarkets if needed. Thank you to all staff at the Blue Ocean Hotel, for another wonderful holiday. Yes, we will return soon.

This is a truly lovely hotel. It’s also probably the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Came here with my 20 year old daughter for a week and loved it. We had a sea view room (I’d recommend doing the upgrade for this) large room with balcony and totally spotless. Staff are incredibly friendly. Pools are great with plenty of sun loungers - we hung out by the adults pool most of the time. The beach is a five / ten min walk and beautiful. The village next door has some lovely restaurants and bars along with a small but equally nice beach. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Absolutely lovely hotel. Breakfast is great as is the food in the snack bar and restaurant. The hotel is in walking distance to the beach, some shops and restaurants. Would highly recommend the Manzo Steakhouse in Olhos de Agua, it’s outstanding! Watch when walking to the beach, take the path within the Hotel not the path from the pavement outside the Hotel. Hotel is very very clean in every area, as well as rooms are lovely and modern. Highly recommend this hotel if you’re looking for a quieter holiday.
