Very disappointing stay – not the 4-star family hotel we expected
Sadly, this was the worst family holiday we have ever had.
We booked Muthu Clube Praia da Oura because it was advertised as a 4-star family-friendly hotel, but our experience was completely different.
The room was tired and in poor condition, and for most of the stay we had very poor shower pressure and little or no warm water. We reported this to reception and were told that maintenance would attend, but the issue was never properly resolved.
We were then offered the option to move to an upgraded room, but only if we paid an additional €58 per day. Considering we had already paid for a 4-star holiday and were reporting problems with the room we had been given, we found this extremely disappointing.
The biggest problem was the noise during the night. On numerous nights we were woken between approximately 3am and 6am by shouting, cheering, arguing, fighting and general drunken behaviour. There were large groups of young adults partying, and the atmosphere was nothing like the family-friendly resort we believed we had booked.
There were also damaged and missing tiles around the pool area, and my son cut his foot on one of the sharp areas.
What has made the experience even worse is the response since we returned home. We raised our concerns with both the hotel and our holiday provider, but instead of feeling that anyone genuinely wanted to help, we have been left feeling as though our complaints have simply been dismissed.
The hotel has since stated that they have no record of us reporting the room or shower problems, despite us speaking to reception and being told maintenance would attend. That is extremely frustrating.
We save throughout the year for our family holiday and don't normally complain or leave negative reviews. Unfortunately, this holiday left a very bitter taste and was nowhere near the standard we expected for the money we paid.
Based on our experience, we would not return and could not recommend this hotel to families looking for a relaxing 4-star holiday.
Has potential with the right changes.
My husband and I went for a short break and paid for all inclusive as we were only staying 4 days/5nights. Thinking this would save us a bit on food and drinks. We were able to book the fish and chips restaurant and the Chinese. The fish and chip restaurant was like ordering a kids meal. 4 small battered fish with one small portion of chips between two. You do get potato salad, potato skin with bacon & cheese (2 small bits) and some onion rings. The onion rings you could have used as a frisbee they were that overcooked. The potatoes skin were undercooked which was a shame. The Chinese however was beautiful, I couldn’t fault it at all. We ate breakfast in Jac’s. There was plenty of choice. There is a microwave in the corner if you want to heat up your food a bit more. Also take a mug with you if you want a mug of tea or coffee. The kebabs and tacos in the ocean bar were worth the wait in line. Overall the food can be hit or miss but has plenty of potential to be better. The all inclusive drinks weren’t all inclusive at all. You could order two half pints of beer (local beer only) at one time, or ready made cocktails which was mostly pure orange. Or MGM vodka, brandy, gin if you want any other brand of drink you have to pay for it. This was in the ocean bar only we never got near the main pool as it was far to busy they did have red, rose, white wine and sangria in jacs bar. Overall if you were lucky enough to get a seat in the ocean bar, one of had to go up queue for the two drinks allowed and then go up again to get the other person ordered or you would lose were you were sitting. We got a sun-bed at the smaller pool near the ocean bar, but if we couldn’t have got one we just went to the beach. Our room was quite and had a sea view in block E we didn’t have any problems with noise at all. The view was beautiful and It was well looked after by the cleaners. Overall the staff here are severely overworked for the size or the resort. Leading to shortfalls in other areas. With some investment and small changes this hotel does have a lot of potential.

Great stay, good food, pleasant staff.
We stayed here last week and I would have absolutely no problems recommending the hotel to my friends and family. We stayed all inclusive, the food on offer was nice, we enjoyed eating out in the speciality restaurants too when they were available for booking, Chetan really looked after us in the Mexican restaurant which was one of our favourites, grill house was lovely too. The themed nights in the restaurant for dinner too was nice, lots of variety on offer. We stayed in a deluxe apartment facing the sea which was nice and only a few meters away from the beach which we visited most days.
Staff in the hotel were great, they could not do enough for you to ensure your stay was pleasant. The lads at the bar were a good laugh but the kebab guy needs some cheering up though 🤣🤣🤣.
The only negative we experienced was the towels on sunbeds from early morning for the full day without anybody on them, people queuing up from 7.30am to get these places and going back to bed or to breakfast when other families could have been using them. The 30 minute rule should be applied more at poolside with more visible signs letting people know towels will be removed if unattended for long periods or some sort of sunbed booking system in high season would work here (like zoomarine). While the lads at the poolside did their best, it happened way to often in the week and it was unfair on the people sitting on the grass while unattended towels soaked up the sun, this is why we went to the beach most days.
With the exception of that slight negative, we had a great time and would come back again, but more likely at a not so busy time.

My overview of the mutu Club Praia da Oura in Albufeira,
My wife and I have just returned from a week’s holiday at mutu Club Praia da Oura in Albufeira, Portugal, 09/08/26 to 16/08/26, we stayed in room B615. I had booked a deluxe room with a sea or pool view we got a pool view however we did not get a deluxe room unfortunately, this room could not be described as a deluxe room in anyway, now if management would like to correct me on this fact I am more than happy to show them the photos that I took of the room showing why this would not be classed a deluxe room by any 4 star hotel. I did not complain as it did the job we only needed somewhere to sleep but the next guests might not be so forgiven However I am not writing a negative review I am only pointing out the fact if you book deluxe you would expect to get deluxe. Lets go back to the beginning and just to remind you this is only my opinion you make up your own mind if this hotel is for you. We arrived at the hotel at about 8.30 pm and the girl on at the booking in reception was very nice and give us a good overview of how the hotel works timings of restaurant and how to get to the room she also let us know that house keeping would be every other day and told us if we had any problems we could call the reception by using 9 on the phone in the room I will comeback to phone later. We then made our we to the room which I have already covered. The girl at reception told us to just drop off are bags and we could go and get something to eat at jacs restaurant and I have to say the food was very good for all-inclusive. The hotel has lot’s of speciality restaurants (tip) book any speciality restaurants as soon as you book in you can only book up to 3 days ahead so if you would like to go to more go back a couple of days later and book them. Now you might not get the time you would like. They give you the timings they have and you pick the one that suits you. We booked 3 the first night and booked another one a couple of days later. I can only tell you about the ones we booked. We booked the international buffet very like jacs restaurant only not as busy it was ok then we had the Mexican now this was very good the staff are very helpful and talked us through the menu the head waiter Chetan even got me another portion as there not the biggest portions you’ll ever get. Then we had the Chinese again it was very good big shout out to Manprget who looked after us. The last one we had was the good old fish and chips again not the biggest portions you well ever get but very nice sorry never got any names of staff but very helpful. Try them out it’s not like going to an outside restaurant but a change from jacs every night. If you are a big eater this could be the hotel for you, you can literally eat from 8 am to 1 o’clock in the morning when one place closes the next one opens. Now let’s get back the phone the staff that clean the rooms and take your towels away are not the same ones that replace them why I’m not sure, anyway we had our towels removed but not replaced. I went to ring reception and the phone was not working. I just walked to reception and told them about the towels we had to use our beach towels after the shower because we could not wait any longer for them to be brought to the room. The towels were on the bed when we returned from the night out. The only reason I mention the phone is it might have been something more urgent and t.v. did not work very well I only wanted to watch the news as we got ready for the night so not a big problem if you had kids it might be a problem. Now for the pool I think if you have read any reviews about this hotel you know the problems round the pool and I think because of the size of this hotel if they had a 100 more sun loungers it would make no difference it’s so big however I did see a pool attendant remove towels from Sun loungers and let me tell you there is no better sight than to see the faces of someone who has got up at the crack of dawn to put the towels on sun loungers that they have no intention of using for hours going to the beach or to town and coming back to find there towels nicely folded on a table at the end of the pool area. Priceless. The sun loungers are hard to get but you will get one at some point or you could just go to the beach (tip) move down the beach to the right about 200 metres there is less stones and pebbles. Now for the entertainment we went out at night but we did go the ocean bar to have some drinks never seen much of the entertainment. I did see lots of parents having to give there kid lots of euros to play the games like punch bag or kick ball or for a game of pool 🎱 . I would have thought they would be free on an all-inclusive holiday I’m not sure parents would have allowed for this extra expense. We did stay a little longer at the ocean bar on Friday night to see the karaoke now they have a big stage in the bar but for some reason it was held in small room at the end of the bar and it only lasted for 1 hour not long enough for the number of guests. Sleep I had read about guests being loud at nights we slept very well every night with no problems from Sunday to Friday then Saturday night that all changed I am putting that down to the weekenders. Ok I have given you my overview of this hotel was it a bad stay not really Could the hotel do better l think its to big for it own good. I say hotel it’s not a hotel it’s a big complex a very big complex the gardens are very nice you are near a nice beach. I found something to eat every meal time but it’s not a 4 star hotel as you would understand or expect one to be. The staff are not rude they are just so busy, your on holidays they aren’t they are doing there best to keep you happy. It’s a long winded review but there is a lot to consider when going on your holidays hope this helps in some way.
