The Residences was a great spot for a strictly relaxed family or couples break.
Pros: The grounds were immaculately clean, picturesque and chilled. The staff were so attentive and solved any issues we had with requests like extra towels, dishwasher tablets etc. Food and drink staff were always helpful and accommodating too. Breakfast was amazing, such a variety of hot fried food, omelette, salads, fruit, cereals, savoury and pastry dishes. Staff again, amazing. Cleaning staff were brilliant and cleaned our family room every day for the 2 weeks. Just remember to leave the sign on your door, they could arrive anywhere between 9am to 4pm. The pools were cleaned daily and nicely spaced out. There were plenty of sunbeds on offer and towels for loungers were free to use everyday. We had access to the sister golf marriott pools also, which had a pirate slide and 2-3 other pools outdoors. It also had an astro but it was a bit run down and locked most days. It was too hot to play football anyway, but in a cooler month the astro would've been nice. Our 2 bedroom family suite with pool view was huge, 1000 square feet with a humongous balcony. The 3 kids were even able to play hide and seek in the apartment. Couldn't fault it at all. Overall value was really good for what we took from the hotel, but there were one or 2 problems that could be helped.
Cons: I read there was evening entertainment, but found there was zero. Nothing for anyone to do after the pools closed at 7pm. No family vibe, just empty bar and restaurants in the hotel. The kids even pointed out how boring it was in the evening there. My advice would be to step that up!
Also location. The Marriott is a world away from civilisation. We would rent a car next time. We spent about €400+ on ubers most evenings and day trips etc. There are 2 restaurants within walking distance (>1km) and no shops. The hotel itself has no mini market and the price of a pint in the hotel bar is €6.60. Daylight robbery. The food in the hotel is also insanely priced. 2 pizzas and 1 small chips cost €67 on our first restaurant visit. Nuts.
So overall a great spot, but with kids it's a tough one, perhaps just a little quiet with the relaxed vibe pools, no entertainment day or night and remote location from the old town (20min drive).
Great memories all the same.
Stayed in a few Marriott owned apartment hotels and have to say, my expectations were fairly high….and was a bit disappointed as this one falls short in some areas.
The accommodation was excellent, apartments well kitted out and modern. However had to ask for dishwasher tablets, on 3 occasions and they didn’t supply any handtowels / sponges / washing up liquid, until asked and they gave us a kit. Randomly even with the “do not disturb” the cleaning staff still cleaned the apartment….ours did have a washing machine, on the marketing it’s a little vague as to whether they had this. Annoyingly they don’t have any instructions on the appliances, I’m not a technophobic person, but that would be useful to have…..
Spa….due to a lot of Spa based “package” holiday folk, they wouldn’t allow us to use this…which was disappointing.
Restaurant options….breakfast was fine, good spread and fresh. The buffet I would avoid, expensive and you sort of got the impression that it was the off cuts from the conference centre. The Japanese restaurant was excellent mind. However I would assume most people would have a hire car and there are plenty of options outside of the venue. Rather annoyingly if you want to use the underground car park, they wanted to charge €6 a day…which out of principle I declined, I’d have assumed they wouldn’t add this as cost.
Staff were very helpful…
Pools…lots of them, nice in the warm weather.
Beautifully maintained property. Clean and functional rooms. Fantastic staff -every single person we interacted with at the front desk was fantastic; well-spoken and patient, they were professional and friendly at the same time. Great pools. The breakfast buffet was simple amazing- we’ve never seen fresh honeycomb at a buffet! We did have dinner in the main floor restaurant as well, and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meal. Decent hotel gym, too, with a fancy spa. M Club was well stocked during happy hour and offered drinks and ice creams outside of those hours. Overall, this was a memorable experience that my whole family will remember.
A wonderful hotel. Was full but never felt that way. Luxurious pools and so clean everywhere. Staff were always attentive (a special shout out to Mariana who took time to provide several places for us to visit. Hired a car through the hotel contact and excellent. The food was lovely and the drinks were always expertly poured and flavoured cocktails or juices. No need to grab sunbed as always plenty available. It was an absolute delight to stay at this hotel and we will definitely be back to sample it again.
A lovely looking resort with a lot to give and a few snags.
We had a great time and would say that the resort is generally well maintained, peaceful and relaxing.
Positives: serene luxury grounds. plenty pool space and sun loungers, great children’s pools and the Marriott Hotel adjacent has a fun splash zone for kids with a pirate ship/slides, and another play area. Breakfast service was very welcoming and served a good selection and high quality foods. The nights with music at the restaurant were the best, it created a warm fun atmosphere 🙌 The dinner food was good, the fish dishes and desserts were nicely made, it felt like the food was simple and unpretentious. Kids club: fun bouncy castle, great bubbles, slime!
Negatives: a few of the pools were out of order, this let down the appearance of the pool area and detracted from the luxury feel. The kids play park was partially broken, though our kids still played on it. The dinner service sometimes lacked a good welcome from the staff, we felt this improved over our stay but it wasn’t consistent. The dinner food was also a little underwhelming, it was normally good to eat but the presentation was a little flat and the food wasn’t very hot. The restaurant felt too quiet at nighttime and more music would’ve been nice. The live music nights really were best, even some louder background music would’ve been nice. The kids food selection was poor, would’ve been good to have pasta and pizza on more. The starters weren’t good, many nights it wasn’t fresh food (fried gyoza and pastry’s), it felt lacklustre. Generally more effort to make the dinner service would’ve lifted our rating as we were half board. No evening entertainment, it’s not a hotel. The kids club welcome wasn’t consistent, some days they seemed happy to welcome us and hang out, other days we were ignored. We weren’t sure why there was a fee to use it, no one was using it so why not make it free? The beach train was broken on a day we wanted to use it. Some housekeeping issues, no replacement bin bags, empty dish soap containers and often no hand towels being replenished. The pizza restaurant was shut for renovations unfortunately.
We weren’t really sure water kind of resort we were going to when we booked, I would’ve hoped for a little more sparkle throughout our stay. That being said it was a nice environment for a break. We hired a car and went to the local beaches a few days. They are stunning! The pool’s were refreshing and pleasant. We made lunches in our large apartment and enjoyed the spacious balcony and room.
My advice: fix the broken bits immediately. Review the dinner service. Ask people for their thoughts on how to improve it and make sure the staff are happy!
