I generally don't leave negative reviews,but i can't let this one slide.Family hols,4ppl , me , my wife 2 children(a 16-year-old son and a 17-year-old daughter).I started mybtrip by taking a Pelican taxi after landing in Faro at 23:10;it dropped us off at the hotel around midnight.I had paid an extra £230 pp for larger rooms-specifically, the photos showed two double beds in 1 room and two sofa beds in other,and an all inclusive package.Upon arrival I asked at reception during check-in if we could get a meal or if anything had been left out for us to eat like sandwiches or so.We were told there was nothing available because the kitchen was closed, though we could order and pay for food from the hotel-despite the kitchen supposedly being closed-and have it brought to our door.So i ordered and paid;45 minuts later, it arrived.That was the first yellow flag flash on.Anyway after check in wr went to our room ,I opened the room door, only to find-contrary to expectations-just 1 sofa bed for 2 ppl in one room and one double bed in other room.I went to reception and showed photos of what i had booked and what the room wss supposed to look like-what i've paid extra money-but the hotel staff member said that ,unfortunately, nothing could be done at the moment because everything was fully booked.I said"okey"as I was already tired and did't want to argue; we just wanted to eat and go to sleep.The next day, I checked brochure and discovered that we could have had complimentary snacks, which were available from 11pm to 01:00 am.Unfortunately staff member hadn't informed us about this.The food at our hotel was disaster;it was the same thing every day for 12 days we stayed there.We could go to another MGM( call Jack's)chain hotel about 5-10 minuts away,where there was slighty better selection,but it was same thing day in and day out. BTW ...All inclusive ??huh? You had to pay for example bottled water or ground coffe espresso , white coffee etc..only instant coffee from dispenser was for free.Housekeeping was a disaster too: mopping was just for show and in 1 room only , tjere was no vacuuming at all, and the bathroom was dirty.I'm not sure they cleaned it at all.They only mafe the bed and changed the towels, though sometimes they'd leave 2 or 3 instead of 4 bath towels, claiming they'd made mistake or simply didn't have enough clean ones.The only thing you could always swap for clean ones the sunbed towels.For 5 stars hotel, it really deserves about two stars fewer.The pool water was cold , not many ppl inside , the ocean wss freezing and stinking seaweed floated in everyday.Noising up to 1 am. Overall , I don't recommend this place; I paid £5700 but spent another £700 on drinks and extra food .I'd rate everything a 2 or max 3 stars out of 5; if it hadn't been for that second MGM hotel where we went for dinner and some.reservation dinners, it would have been a total disaster.

1/5 – Extremely disappointing and nowhere near a 5-star experience

We booked this hotel through On the Beach because it was advertised as a 5-star resort. Sadly, it was one of the most disappointing holidays we’ve experienced, and certainly the worst hotel we’ve stayed in despite travelling abroad every year.

From the moment we arrived, things got off to a poor start. Although we reached the hotel at around 10am, we weren’t able to check into our room until approximately 5pm. There were no courtesy rooms or shower facilities available, leaving us unable to freshen up after travelling.

The room itself was tired, dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. Throughout our stay we encountered numerous maintenance and cleanliness issues, including mould, damaged fixtures and fittings, and a general lack of upkeep. The standard was nowhere near what you would reasonably expect from a hotel marketed as 5-star accommodation.

The communal areas and facilities were equally disappointing. Some swimming pools looked dirty and poorly maintained, and when we attempted to use the indoor pool towards the end of our stay, it was so unpleasant that we left almost immediately. It simply wasn’t an environment we felt comfortable using.

What made the experience even more frustrating was that we didn’t simply wait until we got home to complain. Every issue was reported to reception, either in person or by telephoning from our room. Staff apologised on several occasions but nothing was ever meaningfully resolved. The same problems remained throughout our holiday.

We have extensive photographic evidence of the condition of the room, hotel and facilities. Unfortunately, the complaint process through our travel company limits the amount of evidence that can be uploaded, so only a small proportion of our photographs could be submitted.

This review isn’t written because of one isolated issue—it reflects the overall standard of the hotel and the complete lack of effective action when concerns were repeatedly raised. Had the problems been addressed during our stay, our opinion might have been very different.

If you’re looking for genuine 5-star accommodation, based on our experience, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. We left feeling extremely disappointed that a holiday we had saved hard for failed to meet even the basic standards we expected. We have submitted formal complaints to both the hotel directly and On the beach holidays.
