- Balaia Golf Village Resort and Golf

The hotel stands out for being one of the best golf resorts in Algarve, a wonderful accommodation in the fabulous area of Albufeira designed for those looking for calmness, nature, style and quality. This family resort in Algarve with tennis courts, wellness Centre, bowling green, children's club, golf club with academy, restaurants and shopping area is the perfect option for a holiday in the south of Portugal full of entertainment and adventures. Faro Airport is situated 40 km away from the property. Each unit of this apartment offers large space for guests to feel more relax. The unit is equipped with kitchen, a dining table and a seating area. The hotel features 6 outdoor swimming pools surrounded with greenery and courtyards. Guests can also enjoy at the on-site restaurant serving typical gastronomy of Portugal and international cuisine.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Terrible room , nice complex and food was good, we have many holidays a year and enjoyed it but would not go back as the room was terrible , clutered and needed a total refurb probably the worst apartment in 40 years , but the area is lovely 🙂 I don't think anyone is checking the apartments
From the beginning, the owner was extremely rude and unhelpful. We were left waiting for over an hour before we could access the property. When we eventually got inside, we found the duvets and pillows to be in poor condition, and there wasn’t enough bedding provided for the number of guests booked. On top of that, there were ants throughout the property. Overall, the stay was very disappointing.
Really nice apartment to myself , good aircon , nice pools , cheap food and wine/beer. 15 minutes walk to nearest beach , 20 mins to main town , an hour's walk to the old town then another 30 mins from there to the marina if you want to go on a dolphin search ( I went 24.05.26 and the boat trip was rough due to the wind) The sea on all the beaches is no good for swimming as the waves and currents are strong - it is the Atlantic after all - but the beaches are nice . Lovely breeze all the time made it perfect for walking. Golf course was too expensive for me - €250 a round and €80 for club hire - but the Mateus rose at €5 a bottle compensated for that . On balance was a good trip but there was very little information about local transport - bus stops everywhere but no-one knew anything about timings , tickets or prices.
I would strongly advise anyone considering staying at Balaia Golf Village in Albufeira to think twice before booking. We arrived on 29th April for a one-week stay, and our experience started badly from the moment we arrived.
The staff at reception were extremely unfriendly, unhelpful, and showed very little interest in assisting guests. Despite arriving on time, we were forced to wait around 8 hours before we were finally allowed access to our room, which is completely unacceptable.
To make matters worse, when we tried to check in, we were informed that we had to pay a €200 deposit per person. There were five of us, meaning they wanted €1,000 in deposits before we could even begin our holiday. We later discovered that other guests weren't asked to pay any deposit at all. It appears they simply pick and choose who they charge, which is unfair and inconsistent.
When we eventually got into our accommodation, the problems continued. The condition of the apartment was shocking. One of the shower heads was literally being held up on the wall with tape. TAPE. This is supposed to be a holiday resort, not a temporary construction site.
There was also a lack of basic essentials such as toilet roll and towels. When we ran out, we had to walk all the way to reception and request more. Nobody ever brought them. In the end, we had to practically beg a maid who happened to be working near our room to give us some supplies.
The pool areas were equally disgraceful. The water was full of dead bugs, leaves, and other debris. It was obvious that the pools were not being cleaned or maintained properly. It looked neglected and unhygienic. Children were swimming in that water and could easily have swallowed some of the dead insects and other creatures floating around. It was disgusting.
Finally, the issue of the deposit was handled terribly. At checkout, we were told our deposit would be returned within a few days. A few days turned into weeks. In reality, it took an entire month before we finally received our money back. Having €1,000 tied up for that length of time after a holiday is completely unreasonable.
Overall, this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we have ever had. Poor customer service, unacceptable waiting times, inconsistent deposit policies, badly maintained accommodation, dirty pool areas, and a month-long wait for our deposit refund. We will not be returning and would not recommend Balaia Golf Village to anyone.
Lovely apartment in beautiful grounds. Very friendly and helpful staff at reception and in restaurant. Golf Club is delightful. Staff in golf shop could not have done more to help us! Thank you. We will be back !! Thank you also to the ladies in the golf club restaurant.
