Palazzo Consiglia is a traditional Maltese townhouse situated at the heart of Valletta in St Ursula Street, just a few metres away from the St Rocco's church and key attractions such as the Lower Barrakka Gardens, Valletta Waterfront and Fort Saint Elmo. This flawless building portrays Malta's rich history, with a predominant Baroque design in the lower floors, and Roman and Arabic features that can be observed in the newest parts of the Palazzo. The restoration of this building was undertaken with as minimal intervention as possible, in order to preserve its essence and expose the grandeur of the limestone work present in its interior. The façade has been meticulously cleaned, exposing architectural characteristics that have been illuminated with carefully selected lighting fixtures.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
What a priceless find in the old city of Valletta. With a location is ideal for exploring the city, this boutique hotel is full of old charm and staff that make you feel relaxed and at home from the moment you step through the door, with a welcome drink, cooling towel, and canapes. I can't call out any one member of staff, as they were all absolutely excellent. The selection of local foods in the room is also a nice touch. They only serve breakfast and light lunches, which is a shame, but they make recommendations as to where you can dine. I wouldn't say that this hotel is ideal for those with children, nor if you have mobility issues, as there are quite a few steps. But at the end of the day this is a really old building steeped in history, and it is what it is. We didn't get chance to use the spa, but the concept of booking it for an hour for your own exclusive use is a great idea. We had a room that looked out onto the central atrium, it was very spacious. My only suggestion to the hotel is that it maybe better to have walk in showers rather than just a rolltop bath; more economical, and a lot easier to wash your hair. Or if you're booking perhaps check. Finally, again for the hotel, can you say thank you to the driver that picked us up when came to the hotel. Very welcoming and informative, and we immediately felt welcomed to the city.
We rated this hotel highly. It is quite small…maybe 13 rooms in a perfect location. Being an old building the rooms are not “modern” but perfectly adequate. The staff were exceptional. From Tony and all the others we always felt welcomed. The breakfast was first class….cant say that often, one small criticism may be that the bar is not quite perfect with drinks sometimes not cold or shots too small. But take nothing away from this place. We loved it and hope to go back one day!
I really want to rate this hotel 4.5, as there is no option to do so, it feels right to rate 5 and give a few pointers. The staff were exceptional and a huge credit to the hotel. We were given ideas of places to visit from the moment we arrived, as well as a list of recommended restaurants. They were all extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our room was cleaned to a very high standard daily. There was no kettle in the room and I think these should be provided. The bathroom was a surprise as there was a beautiful roll top bath with a handheld shower spray but no shower cubicle, I did find this quite difficult when washing my hair. The building is old and full of character, there is a central atrium with an open roof. Our room was on the third floor, we had a front door and a window that both opened into the atrium. There was no other window in the room. I did find that when we were in bed we heard the conversations of all other guests that returned to the hotel via the reception. The room definitely needs better sound proofing. The road outside is currently dug up, the duty manager told us that it had been going on for five weeks (we would have expected to be told about this), cars cannot drive by but you can manage to walk in and out easily enough. This must be extremely difficult for the hotel and it is not their fault. Luckily we are early risers as around 8am the workers start and it would be impossible to sleep through it. Likewise the rooftop pool is simply beautiful, along with the most comfortable looking sun loungers, unfortunately there is building work taking place at this level on the next door property. The breakfast was buffet along with an à la carte menu, this was good. All in all a wonderful stay in a beautiful building in an extremely central location.
Hotel selected for us by Kuoni through their agent Kirker, first stop in a Malta - Gozo-Malta trip. Quiet boutique hotel, excellently located for easy access to bars, restaurants, historic buildings and ferries to the Three Cities across the Grand Harbour. Close enough to all activities and a quiet space to unwind after a day sightseeing. Seamless courteous check-in with complimentary refreshments, we stayed in a room facing the street which, though relatively small, was comfortable with all amenities. Service from all the staff was superb, friendly, professional and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. (At my request I was provided with a kettle in exchange for the coffee machine and elegant crockery for morning tea in the room!) We stayed bed and breakfast with a continental breakfast being served in cosy downstairs rooms - a pleasant surprise was that the a la carte menu offering Eggs Benedict through to a full English breakfast was available at no extra cost. More than enough choice to be able to start your day well. Good value for money here. The hotel was very clean, room service with evening turndown meant that we were very comfortable and felt well looked after. Hotel offered a spa with treatments, we were able to book one hour slots in the underground spa area which gave us solo access to a jacuzzi pool which was created from the buildings ancient well and was accompanied by a steam room and a separate sauna with Bluetooth music system. The hour was sufficient to use all three amenities without being rushed and a great way to unwind before heading out for dinner. Rooftop pool was fairly small as you would expect for this type of property but was sufficient for the number of guests staying. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be more than happy to return here if we find ourselves in Valletta in the future, booking a slightly larger room for even greater comfort.
What a stunning boutique hotel! Just off the main streets in a residential area, but close to everything, this place has charm, outstanding customer service, a wonderful rooftop pool, bar, smoking area, gorgeous bedrooms, and everything else that makes me happy.
From being welcomed by the excellent night staff with a welcome basket (with local beers, crisps and wine), to turndown on the final night (with a lovely marzipan cake), it truly surpassed our expectations. Reception staff are brilliant.
Rhea Borg, and his team, are all kind, attentive and have excellent customer service. From bringing fruit skewers on hot days around the pool, to having conversations rather than just greetings (this makes a personalised difference), to the cleaning staff making the rooms immaculate. Shout out to the lovely Italian woman who we discussed wine with, she has a lovely manner and knows how to deal with customers, to Rebecca, who engages so well with guests.
The breakfast staff are excellent and we both had beautiful breakfasts every single day (the scrambled eggs with salmon is a winner!) well done chef.
Shout out to the interior designer who personalised each room - we stayed in ‘Ecologie’ which was so stylish (love the wallpaper). The comfy beds, large and spacious bathroom, all very thoughtful.
Our only thought for improvement would be some hooks in the bathroom and a little bit more privacy on the glass screen in the toilet, but these are VERY minor!
Well done, I’m an experienced traveller and have not stayed at a place as wonderful as this in a while. Bravo! 🙌
