I have just returned from a week's stay at Porto Azzuro with my sister who owns timeshare there. Although it is quite basic the resort has made some good improvements over the past year. The pool area has been greatly enhanced with the opening of the new pool bar. An excellent facility, beautifully done and good value food. The pool toilets have also been renewed. The only downside are the really old sunbeds, all were ripped. New ones would further enhance the area. Staff were very friendly especially Alexis who was really helpful throughout our stay.
18th to 26th May 2014.This was the seventh time my wife and I have stayed at Porto Azzuro. We booked a self cateting one bedroom appartment which we like better than a studio although both have the same SC facilities. We prefer 2nd or 3rd floor as we use the stairs rather than the lift which is OK but verry small. As the building is on a hill the rooms we have used have had views of countryside and pool. Some sea views are on higher floors.
The staff are so very freindly and helpful, and the girls on the reception will willingly deal with any problems you may have. The swimming pool is exceptional.
The in house shop has the basic requirments for self catering, but there is a verry good minni market "Slipway Stores" 150mts up the hill just past the trafic lights on left.Across the road is the slip way leading to a small rocky beach nice for swimming.Great fruit and veg can be bought at the mobile stall in the layby at the bottom of the hill across the road from the prom.
The Xemxija Cafe is also here which has food and drink for all tastes.
Bus stops are on both sides of road, destinations are shown on the posts.
We cannot comment on the bed and breakfast facilities or the in house set eavening menue as we always self cater.

What a fantastic Aparthotel, situated in a beautiful area. Very clean rooms and generally around the hotel. Lovely hot and cold buffet breakfast. Excellent pool/bar area with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. Would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a break away from all the hustle and bustle of a major tourist area. The staff on reception were fantastic and knowledgeable of the area, made getting around so much easier.
A very basic appt/hotel. not a 3 star in our opinion.
Stayed a week beds, changed once, no cleaning done at all. Had to use broom which was left in bathroom to sweep floor. Had to ask for clean towels after 3 days. Lift unreliable. Whole hotel in need of renovation, cracked or chipped floor in several places. Bar in hotel was never open. A/c and electric only working whilst one in room. All electricity cut off, inc fridge when not in room,
Lovely restaurants outside and very nice area in Malta. Would recommend St Pawls area for a quiet holiday but not the hotel.
Thanks to Porto Azzuro we really enjoyed our stay in Malta. The hotel was better then expected, with all the mods and cons. We stayed on third floor on a studio apartment (self catering) and the studio was absolutely spotless clean. Very spacious and modern facilities like the bathroom. The kitchen was basic but just what you need if you fancy cooking something. One of the days we decided to try the hotel's breakfast, which was €5 each of us and I must say had everything we needed. There is not much around in Xemxija but its got great bus connections. Thank you so much for having us! We had a wonderful stay.
