Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Situated between Sliema and St. Julian's, the Plaza Regency Hotel is within walking distance of both towns' bustling centers and just a short stroll from one of Malta's best rocky beaches. The hotel is approximately a 20-minute drive from Malta International Airport.
We stayed here first week in June, on arrival the hotel isn’t very impressive, to enter we had to walk through a restaurant which is at the front of the hotel and then there’s a flight of steps, no ramp so not easy with heavy suitcases or for anyone with mobility problems. The hotel is somewhat tired, reception area has old furniture, no welcome drinks or even a welcoming atmosphere, but it is a 3* not our usual 4/5*. We paid extra for sea view with a balcony, the room was small with not much storage space, small bathroom, but the view was stunning and it made up for the small room. Beds were very comfortable and the aircon was great. Housekeeping was daily, towels changed every other day. Breakfast buffet, not much choice but was okay, there’s a coffee machine with a few different coffees & hot chocolate. There’s a rooftop pool with 2 sun terraces overlooking the bays, views are spectacular, decent sunbeds. The hotel is on a busy road but we liked the hustle & bustle, although we were at the front of the hotel there was very little noise when the balcony doors were closed. It’s a great location, with some nice bars and restaurants very close by. We had a great holiday and we would probably stay here again if travelling to this part of Malta again.
The hotel exceeded our expectations. Its excellent location made it very convenient to explore the area, and everything was spotless and well maintained. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always made us feel welcome. The food ( we had breakfast only) matched the standard of the hotel and was consistently good. Overall, we were very satisfied and would happily stay here again.
Best three star hotel I've stayed at , great breakfast , great view very clean , good staff very helpful. Bus stop outside front door 😄
We booked 2 single and 4 doubles rooms, all standard rooms. Unknowingly none of the standard rooms have balconies. We realised this before going out to Malta after reading some of the reviews and contacting both our travel agent and the hotel. We were told that in the amenities section on the website it does not mention a balcony- however the photos on all websites are deceiving. Also there is an element where when travelling abroad you expect a balcony. We heard many clients commenting throughout our two weeks stay that they too were unaware of this. We were lucky in some respect where two double rooms were upgraded to a room with side sea view, balcony and three beds!!!! Another of our party had an upgrade to a room with balcony- the bed was small for two grown adults and the room and bed was the same size as my single occupancy room. My parents were upgraded to a bigger room, this had a Juliette balcony. Not all our rooms had tea and coffee making facilities. I was very disappointed with my single room- although the bed was comfy and a double so spacious- I had no balcony, view of a wall. I felt excluded from any possible upgrade simply because I was single, I did ask but was told there was no availability. All the rooms were clean, but some needed some maintenance- for instance one had a broken/ rocky toilet and my shower screen leaked all over the bathroom floor. But the cleaners did a good job in ensuring we were looked after- mine spoke to me every morning (cleaners for room 114, sorry I never got their name) Breakfast was very standard and after 2 weeks boring. But we managed. In general the staff were helpful and very attentive to my dad who was on a scooter. The bar staff were used to him by the end of the holiday. Sunbeds were good but not enough of them for the number of people- but then there isn’t space for anymore given the pool area is not that big. Dad could not use the pool as it was ladders into the pool…. Just for anyone going, there are not gradual steps into the pool. Half way through the holiday the hotel became noisy with groups of young people visiting- they were doing somersaults into the pool and in the early hours of the morning were very loud in the hotel…. Shouting/ music/ running up and down corridors and stairs and banging doors. I had to say something about this and staff took on board my comments. I don’t blame them for having a good time, but maybe the hotel could control the noise levels during the night for guests that want to sleep ;-) I couldn’t ring reception at the time as there was no number in the room. But reception (Huma) was kind and ensured I had the information for if anything should happen another night Reception area was clean. There was an accessible lift for Dad from street which was good. There are other comments about the lifts- the main one is slow… but there are other lifts available which seem to be faster!!! It is in a great location for bars and restaurants and travelling the islands. We very much enjoyed our stay and if it wasn’t for the inconsistencies in our room allocation considering we all paid the same price we would probably stay here again!
Great location border of St Julian's bay and Silema. Room was okay the air con was either 18C or 18C unable to turn it down. We complained about the two single beds and these were replaced as the original ones were dirty. No hand rain when stepping out of bath which could be very dangerous. Had to ask for towels as only one was left one day. Also they supply a kettle but you have to wash cups up yourself and go to reception to get tea coffee and milk. The breakfast is really nice with Lavazza coffee in machines. Plenty of cooked food no problems with breakfast at all. Staff in general good but one girl in breakfast room couldn't crack a smile even if she won the lottery. The pool is well used but people don't wash sun cream off and it floats on surface. Biggest complies sun beds. They are fine if lucky to get one. Plenty of space they could put more out. All in all a pleasant week but next time Marriott in St Julians will be where we go!
