Once a suburb of Valletta, Sliema has developed into a bustling and fashionable resort with many hotels and restaurants, smart shops and places of entertainment.
The waterfront along Sliema Creek is known as The Strand and is a popular area with tourists. Tower Road, which bisects the Sliema promontory from The Strand to the open sea, offers excellent shopping and then leads on to St Julian's Point. The resort offers good swimming opportunities along the flat rocky coast on the open sea side of Sliema.
I stayed in room 714, which is a superior room for two weeks, with a view out to the back of the hotel. It is worth paying that little extra for a superior room if you can afford it.
Jet 2 class this hotel as a three-star hotel, and I would say, given my knowledge of Europe hotels it's probably a 3+ star hotel.
Breakfast was limited, but fine and I found all the staff attentive. The breakfast did slightly vary each day.
The room and areas of the hotel I visited were spotless and rooms cleaned daily. The bed was large and felt lovely, the curtains didn't let any light in, and the double-glazed door on to the patio blocked out the outside noise of nearby accommodation.
Air-con / Wi-Fi all fine.
The Aqua Luna, which if free for hotel guests opposite the hotel can get very busy from noon, so get there early. Queues start forming around 9:30, with the pool opening around 9:45.
You get 20% discount on food from the hotel restaurant, Grana on the ground floor. Don’t under look this, as food and drink were excellent!
Ferries to Valetta, Gozo etc are a 10 min walk along the front and there are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance either left or right out of the hotel.
If you fancy a morning walk St Georges Bay and St Julians are a walk-through town around 35 mins, past the Malta only likes of Next, M&S and Matalan 😉
Fabulous location, amazing staff, great family suite facilities, perfect deal with Aqualuna, didn’t want to leave.
Positive aspects:
issues to recitfy or improve:
Great location with views across the harbour. Quiet calm atmosphere throughout with friendly helpful staff. Standard room very basic with very limited storage space especially the bathroom where there is none at all. Small standard shower with corner doors that did not meet, thankfully the water did not leak out. Also no main lights in the bedroom area, only above the beds and TV. Breakfast was the same choice every day, no cooking stations for omelettes etc. Overall the hotel could do with an update but we came to visit Malta so didn’t really spend much time in the hotel so didn’t spoil our visit.
Location was ok, not far away from Valletta or beach locations.
Room was large enough but so clean. Ther was no hairdryer in bathroom.
Value for money could be improved, we had to leave early in the morning but had no offer for early breakfast (although we paid for one - disappointing).
Noise level in the room was ok when you close the balcony door.
Room service could also be improved, although we left the towels for change, thr one wasn't changed.
Also service at the reception needs improvements. We book for 2+1 (child) but we couldn't change the number of guests even 7 days before or at the reception at the arrival (we had to pay full price).
