2nd time at this hotel. Again had an excellent time. All staff greeted you with friendly smiles, service excellent especially in buffet restaurant. Special mention to Donna & Julie who went above and beyond, thank you both for making us feel special.
Exceptional!
This hotel is absolutely fantastic. The standards are extremely high, from the customer service, cleanliness, amenities and restaurants. Our room was serviced daily, and kept very clean, the staff worked to an exceptional standard and did so with a smile on their face. The room is very well equipped, with everything you need for an extremely comfortable stay. Every time we encountered a staff member, we were greeted with a good morning or hello. We were only bed & breakfast so can only comment on the breakfast. There was plenty of choice and the restaurant is light and airy with the option to sit outside. I particularly like the fact there was a 3 hour window, so no rushing up in the mornings. We were celebrating a belated 50th birthday and one of the restaurant team (Donna) helped to organise a surprise mini celebration in our room whilst we were out for the day. I'd taken a banner and balloons and they put them up for me. There was a mini cake, bottle of wine and card all neatly arranged on the table. Donna went out of her way to help & clearly enjoys her job. This can also be said of the staff on reception. They too were extremely courteous and available. The hotel feels like it strives for a very high level of customer service. Thank you to Donna and the team for making our celebration special.
Could be excellent but sadly lacking
Arrived after 11pm, check in was swift and efficient. Platter of food and a drink left in our seaview room as we were too late for an evening meal. Room and balcony were spacious with everything we needed. Hotel is in a perfect spot for getting out and about and pleasantly surprised by the cost of buses and ferries. Room cleaned every day to an immaculate level. Public rooms clean and smelled nice. Julie in the dining room was friendly and gave us advice on the best way to get to Valletta. She always had a smile on her face and a kind greeting.
Breakfast buffet was acceptable but food was lukewarm unless you were lucky in that a fresh supply of an item had been brought out.
Evening meal buffet was sadly lacking. Starter and desserts were great however the hot food was not hot, lacking in flavour and dry. Apart from one night there were very few guests (less than 15) having an evening meal at the same time as us so the food was not being replaced in the chaffing containers and was left standing. This we believe to be the cause of the inferior quality of the buffet. After a couple of days we ate out at lunchtime as we knew what to expect at dinner.
A member of the management team saw us after we'd complained about the quality of the food on our last night even though we hadn't asked to see her. We had complained before with a waitress saying that the food looks dry. She was very defensive and told us we should have reported the food as being dry and more sauce could have been provided. We should have reported lukewarm food and it could have been heated up. The chaffing dishes she said were top of the range and only bought in June this year. Basically she dismissed our complaints and even said she didn't mind lukewarm food.
At no point did the word sorry pass her lips. Her attitude to us was, it was our own fault that the food was below acceptable levels as we should have done something about it. I said that as a guest in a 4 star hotel you shouldn't have to highlight issues, the chef should be checking the containers including tasting. My advice would be, do not book half board.
Lastly an issue that is out of the hotel's control is the noise from Nine Lives bar. After a day of sightseeing we like nothing better than sitting on the balcony relaxing with a drink watching the world go by. This is impossible as the noise from the bar is at a level that is unacceptable. We even checked the decibel level and it came out at 99 to 116. We were unable to use our seaview balcony at night until after 11pm when the noise should stop which incidentally is the same time that the balcony light goes out!
Mixed review
The view from top floor is beautiful with an incredible sunset. The room is large with a comfy bed however the buffet breakfast wasn’t great. The scrambled eggs were watery, the remainder of the food was just cold. Always queues for coffee machines. During our stay the hotel had several power cuts meaning only one working lift during one morning. The WiFi cut off. The staff are very polite and helpful.

Stunning hotel
Stunning hotel, room was beautiful and spotlessly cleaned every day. We had a partial sea view room with a small balcony. Very comfy bed! Great location on the seafront, on a busy promenade next to lots of bars and restaurants. The rooftop pool was fabulous, a little chilly at first but you quickly acclimatised. Tues to Thurs it was lovely and calm but then on Friday it did unfortunately turn into a "party pool" with people who had arrived for the weekend bringing their own speakers and blasting loud club music whilst drinking and shouting. We ended up going for a walk cos it was not a relaxing atmosphere, so just something to be aware of Breakfast was fine, plenty of variety but as others have mentioned not always hot. The cocktails in both the rooftop bar and the lounge were well made Staff were all absolutely lovely and very helpful We did hear the very loud music from the bar over the road very clearly. It didn't particularly bother us but I can see why some people are annoyed by it, again just for awareness Overall I would happily come back
