Honestly, i have no idea how how this hotel is rated 4 stars. I stayed here from the 21st of July and it was really disappointing. I think the biggest issue was the smell in the bathroom. It was very evident that the hotel does not manage well with plumbing as the smell in the bathroom was unbearable, it just smelt like sewage and it was a struggle to even brush my teeth in the morning and at night because i just wanted to gag. We raised this issue however we were told that there were no other rooms available. I have stayed in malta before a couple times however i like to experience different hotels hence why i booked Qawra as i have never stayed here before. I did not experience this in any other hotels which i think clearly highlights that plumbing is not handled properly here.
We also found that the buffet was really disappointing. I understand that all inclusive hotels have to cater to many different types of people however i felt there were barely any options and everything was very plain. There was also barely any fruit during my stay? I know i’m not the only person that enjoys fresh fruit when it’s warm however if you’re craving fruit the only thing you’ll be lucky to get is diced up watermelon. The buffet area was also so small and disorganised, you could see that people tried to queue however others just jumped in and everyone was very huddled together as it wasn’t very spacious. I saw somewhere that the hotel capacity was 500 people and i just feel that there could have been a lot more organisation in the main dining area as it is so small compared to how many people are there.
On the topic of hotel capacity the pool is ridiculously small and very unhygienic as the water from the kids pool spills over into the “main” pool which is tiny. The pictures on the website as well as holiday sites are very deceiving and obviously edited.
I also just didn’t ever really feel clean while staying here. I returned back to our room after a day out to find that the room was cleaned and sheets were changed however there were brown stains on the sheets. Towels also often smelt like musty cigarettes too.
While i was in malta it was extremely hot, averaging about 34-37 degrees celsius and it was hard to find water. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for hotels to stock water in the fridges? especially in these temperatures.
Overall, this hotel was really disappointing and i would not recommend, I am really struggling to understand the 4 star rating and i would not recommend. Only good thing about it is the location. But there’s no value for money
We arrived slightly before the 3pm check in time and the room was not ready. We were advised there was a luggage room we could use and lunch was available until 3. The luggage room was so packed you could hardly move in there let alone get a case in!!!
We headed down for food, which we learnt through the week was repetitive and pretty average. At exactly 3pm we were asked to hurry up and leave. This stark approach we found from staff all over the hotel for the duration of our stay. The only exception were the ladies who cleaned the rooms who were very friendly and helpful.
We got our key and headed up in the lift (anyone who’s stayed there will know this takes an absolute age) and unpacked our stuff in a pretty average family room. It was quite well worn but we weren’t overly concerned as we planned to be out of it most days and headed down to the pool. FYI the mattress’s are like concrete!!!
The size of the pool is no where near big enough and number of sun beds is definitely not enough for the volume of guests. Unless you’re up at the crack of dawn everyday the chances of getting a sun bed are slim. It is advertised that you can not reserve beds but it’s not enforced.
On check out at 11am your all inclusive wrist bands are removed and replaced with a temporary one which only entitles you to use the facilities until 3pm. That meant we were left dossing around the reception area for over 4 hours and had to purchase food and drink from outside the hotel. I’ve never experienced anything like this before with an all inclusive package.
Overall we had a nice holiday but that was mostly down to our holiday party and finding fun things to do outside of the hotel. 100% will not be returning.
We made the most of our stay at this hotel but will not be returning. If you want any chance of a sunbed by the lower family pool you need to be up at the crack of dawn as it is like sunbed wars! The pool area downstairs is far too small for the amount of people staying at the hotel. The pool smelt of stagnant water in places and mold in the grout areas on the edges. The rooms are of a decent size, needing some maintenance but were cleaned daily however the air con was hit and miss, would not have said it was air con as the room never felt cold even with it on all night. The balcony area is scary and you can't even swing a cat! Pay the extra for a seaview!! Food is ok quite varied for breakfast and dinner however you are packed in like sardines! Overall a very expensive hotel for what you get.
The Qawra Palace Resort & Spa. We chose this hotel after reading reviews and watching several videos with very positive opinions. It looked quite luxurious and seemed to be more suitable for adults, which was perfect for us as we have two teenage daughters. The all-inclusive package and the spacious family rooms were also a big advantage. When we arrived, the reception area made a great first impression. The hotel was elegant, very clean, and impressively large, with 12 floors and a rooftop swimming pool. Our family room was spacious, although quite simple in terms of decor. The biggest disappointment for us was the all-inclusive food and drinks. The meals were good, but the menu was very repetitive, with almost the same dishes served every day, and the overall selection was quite limited. A nice bonus was that we could enjoy one dinner at one of the hotel's three themed restaurants. One thing that really surprised us was the lack of tea selection. For a hotel of this standard, offering only one type of tea was disappointing. We also missed local products at breakfast, such as different jams, honey, and other regional specialties. The cocktails were also quite average and only available until 11:00 p.m. There wasn't much variety, which was disappointing for an all-inclusive resort. One day we also had a problem with the bathroom, as water flooded the entire room all the way to the balcony. Overall, I would rate this hotel 4 out of 5, or perhaps 4-. It looks much more luxurious than the experience it offers. On the positive side, the location is excellent—quiet, relaxing, and a great base for exploring the island.
We had a wonderful stay at Qawra Palace Resort & Spa. The reception team was always friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. Housekeeping did an amazing job, always smiling and keeping everything clean. A special thank you to the manager Eddie, for his kindness, and excellent customer service. He made us feel truly welcome throughout our stay. We would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to coming back.
