Qawra Palace Resort and Spa

Absolutely 💯 best hotel and friendliest staff in Malta. We never go to the same hotel each year, but we were so impressed with Qawra Palace last year that we went back this year. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the manager Eddy was wonderful. Highly recommend

We were really disappointed with our stay at Qwara Palace Resort Hotel. Unfortunately, the room and facilities were very different from what we expected based on the photographs and information available online.

When we arrived, we were initially given a room that smelt very musty, the beds had not been made, and the tea and coffee cups were not clean/presented properly. We reported this and were eventually moved to another room.

Unfortunately, the second room was extremely dated and had numerous problems. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable, the towels were very thin, and there were no bathrobes, slippers or iron provided.

I requested an iron from reception. The iron they brought had a crack and leaked water every time it was used. We ended up having to wrap a sanitary towel around it to try to stop the water leaking.

One of the cups in the room had a large crack running through it. When we used it to make a cup of tea, the drink went everywhere.

The kettle then broke. We contacted reception and had to call several times before a replacement arrived, approximately three hours later. Unfortunately, the replacement kettle they brought was full of mould. We obviously refused to use it and requested another one.

The TV was another issue. Netflix was set to a different language and the maintenance team were unable to change it to English.

The curtain hooks also repeatedly came off the rail whenever we opened or closed the curtains.

The rooftop pool area was not as we had expected from the photographs either. The sunbeds are positioned away from the pool, with no sunbeds directly around the pool itself. The main pool is also across the main road rather than being directly attached to the hotel, which wasn't something we had understood from the way the hotel is presented online.

The toilet in our room was also unusually high. I am not particularly short, but my feet could not touch the floor while sitting on it, which was very uncomfortable.

One of our biggest concerns is that the room we were actually given does not appear to be represented in the hotel's online photographs. The photographs gave us a very different impression of the accommodation, and we feel this is something potential guests should be aware of when booking.

To be fair, the staff were friendly and polite, and I don't want to take that away from them. However, being polite does not compensate for the number of issues we experienced with the room and facilities.

This wasn't one isolated problem. It was a combination of cleanliness concerns, broken and damaged equipment, poor maintenance, uncomfortable furnishings and facilities that did not match our expectations from the online presentation.

We appreciate that things can occasionally go wrong in a hotel, but having this many issues during a 5 night stay made the experience extremely frustrating.

I would recommend that the hotel seriously reviews the condition of its rooms, replaces damaged and unhygienic equipment, improves its maintenance response times and ensures that its online photographs accurately represent the rooms guests may actually be allocated.

Unfortunately, based on our experience, we would not choose to stay here again.
