We have loved our week here. Initially disappointed with the view from the balcony of dilapidated houses, we soon realised it was too hot to sit outside anyway so it didn’t matter. Plus it’s in a residential area. The hotel was kept immaculately clean and our room was cleaned twice in our 7 day stay. The rooftop pool is lovely but can get busy at peak times. Also used the spa pool daily which was a great asset. The food we had was also good. Nothing special but well made. We loved the quiet location compared to some hotels on the front road with bars/restaurants underneath them. Great transport links and loved the Dgħajsa from Sliema to Valletta. Would definitely return.
We stayed here last year and loved it so decided to return for another 2 week stay. Unfortunately from day 1 we had problems. The cleanliness of the whole hotel is below par and the cleaning staff are rude. We had issues with part of the wardrobe falling off. Granted it was repaired quickly, however it broke again in the same place. The rooms are cleaned every 4 days and the bedsheets changed the same time but our room was dirty when we arrived. They provide clean towels daily if you want but they come at such dreadful times (8.30 am when we’re in bed or 1.30 pm when we’re sitting down to lunch. Then didn’t understand when we asked them to come back later & said we’d refused! We asked for clean tea towels & the ones they provided were disgusting. Stained with food mess. I spoke to several “managers“ never the same one twice. Then even thought I’d said I didn’t want to discuss this matter with head of housekeeping ( I shouldn’t have to tell her how to do her job correctly) and despite the fact that we had the do not disturb sign on the door she knocked on to speak to us. Totally condescending woman only interested in justifying that her staff are foreigners so don’t understand English ( not my fault) I told her I was not interested but she just went on and on. She offered us a bottle of wine which we refused and said we just wanted the job done right in the first place. Put a bit of a dampener on our holiday. Then to add insult to injury they treat my son like a criminal after tagging his bags in error & putting them in the luggage room. He got a bottle of wine in his room to say sorry ( he gave it away) but no one actually apologised to him face to face. There’s too many sunbeds, the swimming pool on the roof is dirty and the steps slippery. There’s a block of apartments being built within 15 feet of the hotel at the back so there will be no privacy on the lower balconies. Definitely won’t be back.
We recently stayed at Grand Suites and overall had a good stay. There are plenty of positives, but a few issues stopped it being a 4-star experience for us.
The best bits: the pool is lovely and the views are beautiful. Our room was spacious, cool and comfortable (limited daylight though), with a large, very comfy bed, good air conditioning and lighting, and excellent shower pressure. The kitchenette was really handy, with a great fridge and small freezer compartment. There was also plenty of wardrobe space, a safe and daily towel changes.
The Mediterranean Bliss spa package was fantastic and definitely a highlight ofthe stay a lovely, relaxing experience and well worth doing.
The location is good, the pool area gets very busy, with loungers packed closely together. The loungers weren't particularly comfortable and couldn't be adjusted to sit more upright, which isn't ideal if you have a bad back. The pool showers leave the floor wet around the steps, making it slippery. We also found the pool steps into the pool very slippery and difficult to see clearly, and witnessed several people slip. This definitely needs attention from a safety point of view along with removal of damaged loungers/umbrellas.
The room had a couple of quirky issues. The toilet roll holder is bizarrely positioned underneath the sink, making it awkward to reach from the toilet. The kitchenette was useful, but there was no draining board for crockery and cutlery after washing up.
The breakfast was probably the biggest disappointment. At €15 each, we expected better quality. There was a good selection, but the food itself wasn't particularly impressive quality wise.
The restaurant food was ok but nothing to rave about and €4.95 for a bottle of water felt very steep, as did some of the bar prices.
Overall, Grand Suites has plenty going for it, great views, a lovely pool, comfortable rooms, a fantastic spa experience and friendly staff (some with very limited understanding though). With better attention to pool safety, more comfortable loungers, a few practical room improvements and better-quality breakfast food, it could be a really excellent hotel.
Chose this hotel as a package holiday staying in Sliema but this comes under Gzira which I felt was very run down and derelict looking in parts and a shock to the system as not what I was expecting tbh. Hotel itself fantastic, staff friendly and welcoming, roof top pool area very busy at times but a great spa pool down in the basement. Food was good although we had a studio apartment on top floor with kitchen etc. On a positive note Gzira is well connected by bus to help you get out and about and explore other areas of Malta 十
Hotel was located a little way out of Sliema but the rooms were clean and the beds very comfortable. The pool on the roof was lovely however the steps were incredibly slippy, a number of guests slipped including myself slipped on the steps when getting into the pool. The only other criticism was our room wasn’t cleaned on two of our 5 days stay. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
