- Alavits Hotel by ST Hotels

Nestled in Il-Gzira, just 1.2 km from Rock Beach, Alavits Hotel by ST Hotels offers a blend of comfort and convenience. This 3-star hotel features a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, a restaurant, and free WiFi throughout the property. The hotel caters to all guests with a 24-hour front desk, a tour desk, and luggage storage. Private parking is also available for an additional fee. Tria Restaurant, offers a tasty set menu or buffet daily (based on hotel occupancy). Conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from the property.
Each air-conditioned room at Alavits Hotel includes a seating area, a flat-screen TV with cable channels, and a safety deposit box. The private bathrooms are equipped with a hairdryer, and complimentary toiletries. All rooms come with a kettle, while some feature a terrace and sea views.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
They will take 100 Euros in deposit from the beginning. To get it back you will have to fight and try to find someone to talk to, looks like scam to me.
We stayed here as a family of three and were very disappointed with the overall experience. The whole hotel gives the impression that management focused more on cutting costs and technically meeting the minimum 3-star requirements than on actual guest comfort or quality.
The bathroom was huge, but there wasn’t a single piece of furniture or shelf to put our toiletries or personal belongings on. The shower had no proper separation, so after every shower the bathroom floor was completely flooded. Since we also had nowhere to place our things, we couldn’t even keep bags or clothes safely off the wet floor.
The unfinished ceiling with raw concrete was clearly supposed to look “modern” or “hipster,” but it just felt cheap and unfinished.
The balcony was also useless for a family because it was so tiny that only one person could sit there. The air conditioning smelled like urine, which was honestly unacceptable. On top of that, the room had almost no natural sunlight, making it feel dark and unpleasant during the day.
The beds were also uncomfortable because the sheets were too small for the mattress, so almost every morning we woke up directly on the bare mattress.
The swimming pool was also extremely small — much smaller than it appears in the photos — and not really suitable for actually swimming.
The breakfast was also disappointing, with very limited quality and selection, and the coffee was so bad that we genuinely couldn’t drink it.
What really saved our stay was the staff. Everyone was very friendly and genuinely helpful when we raised our complaints. A special mention to Neda, who was especially kind and professional and honestly deserves a promotion.
Overall, the hotel looked much better in the pictures than in reality, and unfortunately we would not stay here again.
We stayed for a week from 8th June, taking advantage of their Airport transfer as our flight arrived quite late. Despite a delay the driver was waiting for us in arrivals and transported us efficiently to the Hotel. The hotel did not disappoint, we were very impressed with the room, the facilities and the breakfast, but most of all the staff. Only niggle was the demolition work next door, which meant an early morning wake up. However this is totally outside of the hotels control and we didn't let it spoil our stay. Will definitely consider again when we next return to Malta.
Very clean, friendly staff, nice breakfast.
We arrived at Alavits by ST Hotels in Malta on July 3. When we made our reservation through Booking.com, the total price was €1,126 including all taxes. However, upon arrival, the reception asked us to pay an additional €14, explaining that this was due to a new law introduced in Malta from June 1. We later checked into another hotel in Malta and were not asked to pay any similar extra fee, which made us question this additional charge.
Before checking in, we asked to see the swimming pool because the pool was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel. We were shown only a very small pool, almost like a jacuzzi. The large cross-shaped pool featured in many of the photos was not located at this hotel but at a different property. We also noticed that several other ST Hotels listings on Booking.com use photos of this larger pool, even though access may require an additional fee or the pool is located elsewhere. We found this confusing and potentially misleading.
The surrounding street also did not make a good first impression, as it looked quite dirty and unattractive.
When we decided that we no longer wanted to stay, we asked to cancel our reservation. The staff tried to help by offering us complimentary access to the larger pool, but after a long journey we preferred to find another hotel instead. Initially, we were told that a free cancellation was not possible, but in the end we were not charged for the reservation, which we appreciated.
Overall, our experience was disappointing because the hotel did not match the expectations created by the listing, particularly regarding the swimming pool. I would recommend that future guests carefully verify which facilities actually belong to the hotel they are booking.
