Block Apartments

When we arrived at the hotel, our room was not ready yet, even though check-in had already started at 2 pm. We got our room at around 3 pm. However, the receptionist handled the situation very well, and we were given drink vouchers for the restaurant in the lobby as compensation. We also received the regular drink vouchers included with the check-in, so we ended up with some extra ones.

The room was very clean, modern and spacious for two people. The air conditioning was also excellent, and there was a separate unit in the bedroom as well. There was, however, a slight smell of dampness in the room, but I assume this is quite normal so close to the sea.

The rooftop terrace was amazing, and surprisingly, it wasn't even very crowded, which I had been a little worried about. We were able to relax and enjoy the day in peace. The prices for drinks and food were also reasonable.

One slightly unusual system was that hotel guests also had to pay €20 for a sunbed. However, this amount is deducted from your restaurant bill if you spend more than €20, so it wasn't really an extra cost if you were planning to eat or drink there anyway.

It would also be nice to have a hairdryer available in the room, especially since this is a seaside hotel with a swimming pool. Of course, you can request one from reception, so it wasn't a major issue.

The area itself was also nice, right next to the beach, with plenty of restaurants and supermarkets nearby. And the walk from the hotel to the beach was completely flat, which was a pleasant surprise in Malta! 😄

All in all, we had a great experience during our stay in Gozo and at the Block Hotel. I would definitely recommend it!

I am regularly in Xlendi for work, and my boss was looking for a hotel where I could stay consistently whenever I am there. Based on my boss’s recommendation, I decided to give this hotel a try. Unfortunately, both of my experiences were disappointing. The first time I booked, I called the hotel a day before check-in to confirm my reservation, only to find out that they did not have a room for me because their BDC had apparently been hacked. I was then left with no choice but to pay a higher rate, as the property was unwilling to match the original rate.

I decided to give the hotel another chance and booked again through a different booking channel. Before arriving, I even contacted the hotel to ask if they could match the rate, but I never received a response.

Unfortunately, things did not improve during my second stay. Upon arrival, I was given a disabled-accessible room, despite never requesting one. The toilet kept flooding, and there was no practical way to open the window. On top of that, if I opened the window, strong kitchen smells would enter the room.

I went to the front desk to request a room change. Instead of simply moving me to a standard room, I was offered a room upgrade for an additional €100. I wasn’t looking for an upgrade or anything special, I simply wanted a normal standard room. I did not request an accessible room in the first place, so I found it disappointing that the solution offered was to pay extra for an upgrade.

Overall, the experience was frustrating, especially because I am frequently in Xlendi for work and was genuinely hoping to find a hotel where I could stay regularly. I gave the hotel a second chance despite the problems with my first booking, but unfortunately, the second experience was even more disappointing.

After these experiences, I have told my boss not to book me at this hotel again. I hope the hotel takes this feedback seriously and improves its communication, reservation handling, and approach to resolving guest concerns.
