Gozo is much smaller than the Maltese mainland and has retained a charming sense of timelessness all its own. The Grand Hotel is located right in the harbour, a perfect place for an evening stroll to take in the sights, colours and sounds of seaside life as the sun goes down.
The Grand Hotel really does live up to its name. From the outside, the façade is impressive and the pool affords a lovely view across the water as you swim. Inside, the hotel is of a high standard with well furnished rooms and tasteful décor. All rooms are en suite, some rooms feature a walk-in shower, but most offer a bathtub. All rooms have air conditioning and heating to ensure your comfort, whatever time of year you choose to visit. Rooms are also equipped with satellite TV, mini bar, tea/coffee making facilities, Wi-Fi, direct dial telephone and hairdryer. If you really want to make the most of this wonderful location, seaview and superior rooms are available at a supplement – just ask when you book.
The views are also fantastic from the restaurant and bar which you'll find on the rooftop of the hotel. Best spa experience
This is a review for the spa situated within the Grand hotel. This afternoon my friend and myself booked the afternoon package of a full body massage and facial with lunch. We had the most relaxing and beautiful visit. Mariana treated us so kindly and performed the most amazing treatments. We both left feeling relaxed and refreshed and looking forward to revisiting.

The Grand Hotel, only Grand because of its size!
First of all I’d like to say the staff are excellent and do their very best working in a poor hotel and are put in a terrible situation, our house maid was lovely and did her very best, they really do try to make your visit a good one, but unfortunately can only do so much. The view is beautiful over looking the harbour, make sure you get the sea view as any other on the opposite side is just concrete jungle and definitely not very pretty to look at.
So the hotel is going through some major building work, it looks like they have bought the next door property and are trying to join the two, or just upgrading one side, large parts are not available to the guests. Everything seems half finished or half completed, ceiling tiles missing, painting still going on, floor tiles loose with large gaps between them, things just not working at all.
We arrived and I saw a remote control in the bathroom which didn’t seem to do anything, so I asked! They said it was the control to operate the blind between the bedroom/bathroom, so you can enjoy the view while showering. I said well there’s cut wires hanging down so I don’t think it’s connected properly, so maintenance turned out and just tucked the live wires behind the ceiling tiles and said it’s safe now!
The TV was a waste of time, you either get sound and no picture, picture with the sound 10 seconds behind or just neither.
Building works starts at 8am, and it’s loud, continues all day, grinding and drilling.
The drainage smell in some areas is bad, and I mean bad, it just hits you without warning.
WiFi is ok if you don’t move out of your room, but does not cover the whole hotel.
The two Main Gold lifts have a mind of their own, one was out of service for 5 days and both when working just stop on random floors.
Breakfast is good for a few days but you soon get bored of the same thing every day.
On arrival you have to pay a hotel tax (fair enough) for our 10 night stay, but then as we checked out we got told that the tax went up on the 1nd July from 50 cents to €1.50 a night so had to pay three times the original price, surely you should pay the price on arrival and if it alters during your stay then that’s down to the hotel and not out of your pocket, plus they don’t show you any confirmation that it’s gone up, you just have to say ok and cough up because your taxi is waiting outside.
So would I go to Gozo again? Absolutely yes, beautiful island away from the hustle and bustle of Malta, would I stay in the same hotel next time? Absolutely not, I’m sure there’s much better cheaper hotels than the so called Grand.
PS definitely hire some mode of transport because it’s very hard in the legs, we got a scooter to zoom around on, cheap and lots of fun to visit the whole island.

May I firstly say that all the staff here are fantastic, so very helpful and hardworking. The view, pool & room were lovely too. Breakfast was a bit hit & miss & the smell through some points of the hotel were awful, had building work right next door to which i know has to be done but was awfully loud at times. The internet is rubbish, only seems to just about work in the room & tv don’t bother with…it was either no signal at all, a blank screen with sound or maybe a couple of dodgy channels on repeat! What was really annoying was as we left at 2am in the morning to go home we were told that we owed a further 18 euros hotel tax as it had gone up from 1st July (we arrived on 28th June & paid the tax on arrival but was not told it would be going up from 1st July from 50cents to 1.50 euros a day) it still doesn’t add up but luckily had just enough to cover it. Gozo is a beautiful island with very friendly people & the hotel does have some great plus points but comes with some negatives.
Facial
Went to the Fresha spa for a facial and brow tint . The tint was done excellently, also the facial was amazing. Miriana was very professional and very knowledgeable about the work she was doing . Would definitely be returning.
20 years so far...
Ive just returned from a week Half Board stay in a Superior Seaview Room with Terrace, at a favourite place that I first stayed at back in 2006. I actually was in the same room this time as per 2006. There have been 9 visits over that 20 year period in total. True to its name...one of the original owners "Grand Ambitions" seemed to make the Hotel expand from a modest 7 floor Terracotta establishment, to a Deluxe premises that extends for nearly the whole length of the street. It goes without comment that I obviously really have fully enjoyed each one of my stays, so for this 2026 review, I am just going to focus on its current Staff, those not mentioned in any previous review, that made this time truely extra special, I got the warmest welcome upon arrival by Receptionist MAJDA, later assisted by ANFISSA. The main restaurant team as a whole were great - the Standout being DANIELA, who always focused on my diabetes, ensuring APPLE was always available. Other special team members being ROCCIO, CELESTE, ALOK and a new Intern MARVIN. Finally I must mention Housekeeping - NEERAJ who took care of my room, he also ensured a plentiful supply of bottled water was always to hand. So thats 20 years completed..heres to more happy returns. Best Wishes and Thanks.
