Filoxenia Hotel

Just returned from a week at the hotel, deluxe room, all inclusive. The hotel is divided into two parts, the first with the main bar and dining facilities, then across a small service road is the second section which contains the main reception and the deluxe rooms. Separate pools in each section. The rooms and hotel areas are kept immaculately clean, we watched a couple of mornings 4 staff members cleaning the pool area for over an hour! Even swept the astro-turf borders. Our room cleaned daily, again immaculate. Mineral water [2 bottles a day], coffee pods [oddly, we were only allowed 4 pods per day between the two of us] topped up also plus fresh fruit and a complimentary bottle of wine at the start of the week. Usual for these days, all-inclusive drinks were limited to local or lower spec beers, wines and spirits unless we wanted to pay extra. Staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. My wife needed to see a Dr and the reception staff helped and advised us and arranged a taxi to the walk-in medical centre. I do have a couple of negative comments though: the road adjacent to the hotel can be very busy and quite noisy for most of the day. Also the food is a bit of a mix to be honest. Cold foods, fresh salads, desserts are all excellent. But we found the hot food to be a bit of a disappointment: generally overcooked for our taste and a bit bland and institutionalised. My wife cannot eat gluten and the hotel did provide GF bread rolls and good guidance on what she could or couldn't eat. Walk into Tsilivi takes around 20 minutes ambling and there are a couple of small shops on the way that sell the usual essentials, including, for me, English newspapers! the town itself is lively on an evening with plenty of bars, tavernas and more up-market eateries if you want a break from hotel food. We had a couple of evening meals in town and found them to be good value for money, better than we had expected. So, all-in-all, we had a good break, the staff could not have been more helpful, our room was cleaned immaculately every day and relaxing by the pool was just as it ought to be. Just the traffic noise and the overcooked hot food prevented us giving the full five stars.

The Hotel is spotless the staff very nice indeed.The Hotel although lovely suffers from a very strange layout due to location.The hotel is in two halves with the dining room and bar and some accommodation in one halve and just accommodation in the other.The accommodation part has an amazing pool and pool bar whilst the other pool is smaller and has a kiddies pool put suffers from being quite shady. Food. The food is of a good standard with plenty of choices for all.The dining room staff and the chefs are brilliant. Room. The room we had was large with kettle and coffee making facilities the bed although comfortable and large has one bad side - the corners are like planks joined together and very sharp causing quite a few bruises.Some kind of material could be added to soften and make the more round.The cleaners did an amazing job. Hotel Location. Sadly the hotel is situated around a sharp corner on a very busy road which is always busy and noisy particularly if you are at the main pool or are sitting at the bar.The road into Tsivili town although not far approximately 2km is busy and suffers from poor or no pavements and is very poorly lite and not in my opinion for the elderly or infirm.Taxi €10. The hotel does however run a free shuttle bus to the beach via the town 3 times a day.Highly recommended. Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday meeting amazing friends and the island is absolutely fantastic.We will be back.
