Great holiday, maybe a few tweeks

I loved this holiday with my best friends, I wouldn’t say it was 5* little things like sunbeds need updating, the bean bags were horrible and looked dirty just normal beds would be better here, our room 929 was beautiful and huge but opposite a karaoke bar, the noise didn’t bother me but the balcony was glass so felt very exposed and didn’t sit out there which was sad, everywhere was lovely and clean, and staff were great, snack bar was great, entertainment was okay I enjoyed it, maybe a bit ropey some nights! Food good I was never hungry, however breakfast defo could be better, who eats cauliflower and courgettes for breakfast? All in all 4* and would deffo recommend. Also great access if hard of walking or in a wheelchair.

Mostly Good

Lovely hotel overall but some inconsistencies which really should be improved in a 5 star venue.

Our first room in what I assume was block 5 was poor. Right by the road and the two bars over the road. Loud music until gone midnight kept us awake. The room was obviously one that hadn’t been refurbished. Small and very dated bathroom. Shower that only sprayed very close the wall in the corner so impossible to get under. Very bland and dark room with offset balcony door. Balcony looked onto the road to the right, the opposite building ahead and could just see the sea to the right. A VERY limited sea view room which is what we’d paid for. Not a 5 star room. I requested to be moved straight away on the Sunday but we weren’t offered another room until the Tuesday. However the new room was lovely. In block 9 and obviously refurbished with a big rainfall shower and lovely sea view. Only downside was the uncomfortable balcony chairs. It’s concerning though that the rooms are inconsistent and you run the risk of being allocated a poor one. I saw other people moving mid stay too so obviously happens a lot. All rooms should be of the same basic standard. Obviously understand you pay more for sea view and swim up etc.

The staff were all lovely. Except the receptionist who insisted we did have a limited sea view when I asked to move rooms. Service in restaurant, bar and by the pool very good. Food very good throughout. Small thing but please lose the black plastic glasses used in the outdoor areas. The staff can’t see what’s in them when they collect them from the bar. We can’t see what we’re drinking. Nobody likes them.

Entertainment a bit hit and miss. A couple of good singers/bands and some ropey ones. No Dj one night as didn’t turn up. The Greek night was very lack lustre and we went to bed. Two hours of loud DJ dance music at lunch time at the pool party one day was a bit much. I like that music but not at 1pm when I’m trying to chill and read on my sunbed.

Agree with previous review about the quality of pool towels and sunbeds. All in very poor condition and need replacing. Needs to be more sunbeds too. The dreaded early morning army of men sent to reserve sunbeds meant it was hard to get a bed by 9am. Or at least one that wasn’t broken or had any shade etc.

We spent more time in the hotel than anticipated as usually we go out more in the evenings. However, Tsilivi doesn’t have much to recommend it. Mostly just busy roads with fairly average venues. We did a great sunset turtle spotting boat trip booked via Tui and enjoyed a trip to Zante Town. Wouldn’t necessarily return to Zakynthos again though, there are much nicer islands.

Good but could be better

So where to begin…. We booked 2 weeks swim out partial sea view and we were lucky enough to get the preferred room 814! Fab location, modern decor, spacious and more storage than I expected. Cleaned daily to a high standard and mid afternoon onwards full sun which was perfect. Overall the hotel is clean and well presented but there are areas that could be improved. Best bits- room and swim up, the staff are all amazing and work so hard, quality of food is good, service and overall cleanliness. The sea- so clear and lovely to be able to access it so easily, yes it’s sandy, yes some days some seaweed and shingle but it’s nature!! The staff all work long days and some work in other establishments too - but they are a credit! Eva especially stood out. The overall lay out of the hotel was fab, spacious and didn’t feel you were on top of people too much. The bar in block 8 - due to entertainment (comments below) we spent most nights there and it is a hidden gem. Spa- had an amazing cretian massage from Nora. Recommend and lovely hidden spot!

The things that could be changed to make it stand out - entertainment. Sadly one good show in 2 weeks and better acts at other local venues. The one man band was a joke! Greek night was good but if smaller restaurants can do the full spectacle why can’t the hotel? And the gala night as lovely as it is…. Make it more of a spectacle. More premium foods that aren’t normally there, change up the tables a little, have management interact and chat not just stand and be clapped for. Quality of drinks varied - you include premium spirits so why serve the basics? Surely if someone wants a spirit and mixer ask what brand from those included! Use the bar stock for cocktails but make it a premium experience for the guest and consistent. Food temperature- not always warm even, which I appreciate is hard cooking at volume but would be nice to be improved and more show cooking of dishes. Not just pasta and omelettes. Sunbeds - please please replace them all and start again, a mix of rotten and broken wooden ones and low metal ones isn’t 5 star. You water the grass but the side of the pool bar between the main pool and the bar stays boggy. Meaning the legs are rotting and tables are used for bags and clothing because nothing can go on the ground. I’d love to suggest concreting that area fully to improve things and provide more space for beds. Inconsistency with rules around the reserving of beds- especially around the large pool and in prime locations. Enforce the rule or don’t but more beds are needed as people won’t use swim ups/ private pools in the shade. Beach towels- again, please please start again! One day thick and decent the best see through and rough. Pleased we took some of our own. Bath towels- as above but large and fluffy or small and threadbare. Was a lottery! Wasps- it’s inevitable as the time of year we stayed but could the hotel fog or remove any obvious nests? No huge deal but would help guest comfort.

Finally- the weekends with the pool party and bbq. It’s a big set up but multiple times we saw a senior member of staff (head of food and drink service I believe) shout and belittle already busy and serving staff in-front of guests. That’s not on. No we don’t speak Greek but you could tell, and this included him shouting over during lunch time service at the snack bar while staff were serving.

From hearing others it seems there are some huge discrepancies with the quality of the fixtures and fittings in the rooms which seems a shame. We were very lucky but can understand why people would expect more and more consistency.

Our room was cleaned to a very good standard but each morning quite early the cleaners would have what I would say was their daily briefing or chat about the last nights tv outside our door. Loudly! Not ideal but not a deal breaker.

With that, would we return. Yes I think so because the problems didn’t outweigh the trip or experience.

At first, I was a little disappointed because the rooms are quite simple. But bed us very comfortable!

However, I have never experienced such an incredibly high level of service anywhere else 💯 Whoever is responsible for selecting and training the staff at this hotel deserves a standing ovation👏

The hotel has everything you need for a perfect holiday: great swimming pools, delicious cocktails, excellent food, sports activities, a beautiful beach and live music every evening. There’s even a self-service car rental station!
