Just got back from 12 nights at the Marelen Hotel. Gorgeous hotel. The staff are all lovely and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Shout out to Enos in the restaurant. Such a lovely guy. We had a lot of banter and laughs with him. Food is excellent. Well cooked, great choice and hot which is unusual for Greece. Also never repeated. Adults only pool lovely and peaceful. Aircraft noise- no problem at all. Thank you all at the Marelen for a great holiday.
I have given this hotel a 4 out of 5, not quite making a 5 for me personally. On arrival we were shown to our room, and luggage taken for us which was appreciated very much. Once in the room I wasn’t sure I’d been given the correct room as it seemed a bit dated compared to the ones advertised. I went to reception and was told I had been given the correct room for bookings with easyJet, so I’m guessing if you book with another company you may get a nicer one? The room I was given was a bit small, especially as this was a 2 week stay, however as it was just myself and 12 year old daughter, we managed. A family member had also booked and their room was extremely cramped as there were 2 adults and a 2 yr old child, but again they managed, although I think layout could be better thought through for family’s staying , especially if for longer than a week. Beds I have to say are so comfortable, I want one of these at home!! We were left bottled water, and tea/coffee etc on arrival which was good. So moving on, the rest of the hotel is really nice, good quality sunbeds which usually were available at any time of day, not something I’ve ever experienced at a hotel anywhere, huge bonus if travelling with family. Nice decor throughly the hotel grounds, a very chilled atmosphere with ambient music playing throughout the day! Our first week we found to be extremely quiet, didn’t seem like many guests were staying, and on a few days we had the pool pretty much to ourselves, nice but very strange. The second week we found to be a busier week, but still no racing to get a sunbed. We stayed with the B&B option, food was of a good quality, always hot, and plant to choose from, so another tick here. Entertainment is held 3 times a week, can’t really comment on this as we only saw one night, didn’t stay in to watch any more as I felt due to the quietness of the hotel in general it seemed to lack any atmosphere in the evening, which was a shame, the vibe bar was usually empty, we stopped a couple of times for a drink on our way out, the barman is nice, friendly and serves good drinks, the bar area again has a nice feel, nice comfy chairs so no idea why it’s so quiet? The pools, main pool is fairly small, but as during our stay was adequate, not sure it would be if the hotel was busy though. The children’s splash pool area was really nice, although very cold even in late June, so the children weren’t keen to use this sadly. Location is good, just a very short stroll from the beach, and the other direction the main area for restaurants and shops etc. Taxi rank right outside if you wanted to use one. Planes start to fly over at 6.30am but this was fine for us. Overall we had an enjoyable stay, nice hotel, in a nice spot, good food and drink options, and basically everything you need for a nice peaceful holiday. Would I come back? I would, however for me I think a week would be just right rather than 2 weeks just because it’s lacking atmosphere and a bit too quiet for me, but a lovely place if that’s what you want in a holiday 😊
This is the third year in a row we have been coming to The Marelen Hotel. It’s no coincidence that we do. The friendliness of all staff, the excellent air conditioning in the rooms, the quality and taste of the food with different themes of cuisine on each day. I was struggling with the breakfast coffee on morning one of our weeks holiday, and a kind gentleman explained the various settings. Unbeknown to me at the time, but this was the manager supporting me!!! Another manager even gave us a tin of decaffeinated coffee as the machine did not do this.
We were met at reception when we arrived and paid the local tax for the week, before being shown our room.
Each day we went to breakfast and when we returned our room was made up with fresh towels (where needed) as well as cleaned and floors mopped.
The food in the evenings was especially good and all staff were super friendly. (Enos took great care of us).
The whole complex was spotlessly clean and all staff were so friendly and helpful.
This hotel is ideal for families and young children especially. We Will come back again.
Stayed at Marelen for a week with husband and 15 year old daughter. Hotel is lovely and spotless. Service from all staff is first class, nothing is too much trouble. We upgraded our room to a 2 bedroom apartment and it was worth it, had lovely balcony and spacious room. Double rooms are ok for couples but a bit small if you have kids on my opinion. Breakfast was excellent with everything you could want, warm good quality food and plenty of it. We didn’t do half board as there are lots of restaurants in Kalamaki that we wanted to try but we did have lunch a few times at pool bar. Pizza was fab and price was good too. No sunbed wars here, plenty of comfy loungers, always lots available. First hotel I’ve ever experienced no towels left on sunbeds. Only not given a 5 star for couple of reasons, the main pool is a bit deep so kids congregate at one end which is a bit cramped, would have liked if a bit more shallow for daughter to enjoy more. Only other thing that could improve is maybe having a bit more activity at hotel. Yoga only once a week and we missed it. Geared more for adults I would say but if you like good standards and a chilled vibe then you will love it. Kalamaki was fab with lots of great places to eat and drink, I will return. I would also come back to this hotel but maybe as a couple. Thanks to reception lady from South Africa for helping to upgrade and to all bar staff, who were excellent. Cocktails all freshly made and delish! A solid 4 star hotel that ticks all the boxes for a lovely relaxing week in Kalamaki.
Stayed for the first time at the Marelen Hotel in Kalamaki. The hotel is situated on a quiet road which is within easy reach of the beach. We were half board for 14 nights and on arrival we were greeted by the friendly reception staff and taken to our room with our luggage by Cleant who, I have to add, is a credit to the hotel. The room was a good size with plenty of storage. Bathroom was on the small side but had a lovely walk in shower. Spotlessly clean with fresh towels every day. Pool towels also provided which was great. Our cleaner was lovely and does a fantastic job, especially in the heat. Food at dinner and breakfast was varied with something for even the pickiest eater. Always fresh and tasty. The restaurant staff once again were all a credit to the hotel in their friendliness and efficiency. Lovely adult only pool with loads of loungers. No sunbed wars here! We didn't use the main pool but it was very well maintained and had a lot of loungers. We had lunch on our last day in the pool bar and it was delicious. Kalamaki is a short walk from the hotel with lots of bars and restaurants. We hired a moped for 5 days from Universal hire shop at a very reasonable rate. We saw most of the island which is absolutely stunning, especially the view of the shipwreck from above. All in all I can highly recommend the Marelen Hotel if you are staying in Kalamaki. It's a beautiful hotel with staff that are exceptional.
