Just back from a week at Vadema and I can confirm that all of the positive reviews left in the past months are entirely accurate. This is a haven away from the tourist filled towns of Fira and Oia and a taste of Santorini of days gone by, but of course far more luxurious! Vadema is a rambling series of small villas with cobbled lanes winding through and around them, at one with the pretty village of Megalochori. We stayed in a suite with its own pool, which was warmed perfectly by the sunshine. Having our own pool meant we did not need to use the two main pools, but both looked inviting and were never busy. Certainly not a resort where you need to get up at 6am to reserve a sun bed! Breakfasts are by one of the pools and the staff so polite and attentive at all times. The team organised a hire car for a couple of days so we could explore the island at our leisure - but beware, the roads are very steep and winding so not for the faint hearted driver. The hotel restaurant is pretty pricey but there are five restaurants around the main square which is only steps away. All are good. I would highly recommend Vadema for the location, the ambience and of the wonderful team who were always on hand to arrange your every need - many thanks to everyone for such a wonderful stay!
We had a wonderful few days at this well managed and serviced resort. Vedema has many fine attributes and a well motivated, professional and welcoming staff
This hotel is amazing. The location is perfect in a quiet village away from the main tourist spot’s but the village has enough going on to be ideal. From the minute we arrived until the time we left, the staff were magnificent and couldn’t do enough for us. All of the rooms are suites and are very well finished. The two pools and the jacuzzi are perfect for cooling off. As for the food, it ticks every box. A fabulous range of excellent options at breakfast, great lunches at the poolside bar, and a wonderful dining experience at the rooftop restaurant for dinner. All in all just perfect 😀
This resort is absolutely stunning. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this resort.
We stayed at Vedema for two nights immediately before and on the day of our wedding in June 2026. This was not a standard holiday stay. I booked the hotel over a year in advance specifically because I wanted somewhere special and stress-free to get ready on the morning of my wedding.
The stay cost over €1,100 for two nights, and throughout the year leading up to our arrival I had been in regular communication with the hotel regarding some very simple requests. These included providing a few extra chairs in the room for my bridal party, hair and makeup artists, and family members, as well as arranging coffee and mimosas for four people at 7:30am on the wedding morning before the rest of the bridal party arrived. Every request was acknowledged and I was repeatedly assured that everything would be arranged.
On the day of arrival, we were told we could check in early at 2pm rather than 3pm, which we appreciated. However, when we arrived, our room was not ready and we had to wait. Not a huge issue in itself, but it was the first sign that things were not running smoothly.
Once we entered the room, we discovered that it had not been cleaned properly. The bathroom bin still contained another guest's used sanitary products. Finding someone else's used period products in a supposedly five-star hotel room is unpleasant under any circumstances, but particularly disappointing given the premium price point.
Service throughout the stay was noticeably slow. On our first afternoon, it took around 45 minutes to receive a simple iced coffee by the pool, despite the hotel being quiet.
The real problems began on the morning of my wedding.
At 7:30am, none of the arrangements that had been discussed for over a year had been put in place. There were no additional chairs, no coffee and no mimosas. We contacted reception via WhatsApp (their preferred method) and repeatedly followed up. We also sent multiple members of the bridal party downstairs to ask for assistance.
Two and a half hours later, nothing had been been resolved.
As the bride, I spent the entire morning sitting on the floor while having my hair and makeup done. We made repeated requests both in person and via WhatsApp. Eventually I had to go to reception myself, wearing my dressing gown and slippers, to explain that it was my wedding day and that I had been sitting on the floor for over two hours because the hotel had failed to provide the chairs they had repeatedly promised.
What was most disappointing was that staff openly admitted that they had not read the email correspondence regarding my requests. In other words, all the planning and communication that had taken place over the previous year had effectively been ignored.
The service issues continued throughout the morning. Breakfast took approximately an hour and a half to arrive. We were told the hotel was not particularly busy. We repeatedly requested that empty plates be removed from the room ahead of photographs being taken, but despite several calls to reception, nobody ever came. We struggled to get drinks delivered and spent far too much of the morning chasing basic service requests instead of enjoying what should have been one of the happiest and most memorable mornings of our lives.
The most frustrating aspect is that none of our requests were unreasonable. We were not asking for special treatment. We were simply asking for the hotel to deliver services that they had already confirmed they would provide.
Following our stay, I submitted a formal complaint. To their credit, the hotel acknowledged that mistakes had been made and admitted that standards had fallen short. However, their proposed resolution was a discount on a future stay.
Unfortunately, after the experience we had on the morning of my wedding, I have absolutely no desire to return. If a hotel cannot deliver on its promises on what is arguably one of the most important days of a guest's life, it is difficult to have confidence in returning and spending more money there in the future.
The hotel itself is attractive and the location is convenient, but a five-star hotel is about much more than appearance. Cleanliness, organisation, communication and service are equally important. On all four of those measures, Vedema fell well below expectations.
This should have been a joyful and stress-free wedding morning. Instead, I spent hours chasing chairs, drinks, breakfast and basic assistance while sitting on the floor in my bridal robe.
For the amount of money charged, I expected significantly better. I would not stay here again, and I would strongly advise anyone considering Vedema for a wedding stay or other special occasion to think carefully before booking.
