Acqua Vatos Santorini Hotel

BED BUG BITES -18 BITES, INCLUDING 3 ON MY FACE

Unfortunately, my experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing.

I chose this hotel because of its good rating and reputation, so I absolutely did not expect to encounter bed bugs.

During my stay, I actually found a bed bug on my pillow. I immediately reported it to the reception and showed them the bug and the bites I had already noticed on my arm.

At that moment, the bites were barely visible, so I had no idea how serious the situation would become. After leaving the hotel, the bites started becoming much more noticeable - they became red, painful and itchy. I gradually discovered more and more of them: on my hands and fingers, legs and, unfortunately, three bites on my face. In total, I had around 18 bites.

The worst part is that this happened after I had already left the hotel and travelled to another country. I spent the following 8 days of my European trip with visible marks on my face, arms and legs. I have photos documenting the reaction.

The accommodation cost was eventually refunded, which I appreciate. However, the physical discomfort and the impact on the rest of my trip cannot simply be undone.

I am especially disappointed because this is a well-rated hotel, and I genuinely expected a much better standard.

I hope the management takes this seriously, investigates the source of the bed bugs and makes sure other guests do not have to go through the same experience.

I came to Santorini alone in August, mainly to relax, and I honestly could not have chosen a more comfortable, convenient, and central place to stay.

Acqua Vatos has such a peaceful and easy-going atmosphere. It is the perfect place if you want to combine a relaxing holiday with some remote work. My Economy Room was absolutely perfect for a solo traveler, and I especially enjoyed the quiet patio outside, which was a lovely spot to sit and work.

The room was incredibly clean and was cleaned every day. Everything felt well looked after, and the hotel offers excellent value for money.

The location was another highlight. I was absolutely amazed to discover that the sea and beach were just a two-minute walk away, while the bus stop for Fira, the capital of Santorini, was only about one minute from the hotel. Having such easy access to the rest of the island made travelling around so simple.

A special thank you to the lovely lady at reception, who was incredibly helpful throughout my stay. She explained the bus stops and routes, gave me useful local advice, and even helped me book a boat trip. The boat trip was incredible and made one of my long-time wishes come true — finally seeing the famous Santorini Caldera from the sea.

Breakfast had plenty of choices and something for every taste. Some options were repeated during my stay, but that is completely understandable with a buffet, and there was always enough variety to choose from.

What I particularly loved was the feeling of the hotel. It has a warm, almost family-owned atmosphere, with lovely people, a peaceful environment, and a genuine sense of hospitality.

As a solo traveler, I felt comfortable, relaxed, and very well taken care of. I would definitely return to Acqua Vatos if I come back to Santorini.
