Lydia Maris Resort and Spa

I’m honestly a little perplexed as to how Lydia Maris Resort is classified as 5-star. Having stayed at many 5-star hotels, I would personally rate this closer to a 4-star.

Our arrival was underwhelming. We had a late flight and the restaurant was closed, so we were offered a basic ham and cheese sandwich. Our first room was also directly opposite the pool and entertainment area, with loud music making it difficult to sleep until after 11pm. We eventually had to change rooms.

The positives: the hotel was very clean and well maintained, the main pool was excellent and surprisingly quiet for late August, and the refurbished family rooms were a decent size. The location is good, close to the high street, restaurants and bars. Staff were friendly, polite and hardworking. The food selection was reasonable, although repetitive.

The negatives: the public beach is a bit of a walk, the all-inclusive cocktails and alcoholic drinks were very poor, and I was surprised to be charged €20 for the room safe and asked for a €10 refundable deposit for beach towels.

The biggest concern was the lack of clear allergen information and apparent cross-contamination at the buffet. My son has a nut allergy and unfortunately suffered several allergic reactions during our stay. This was extremely worrying and, in my view, something the hotel needs to take much more seriously.

The gym is basically a small shed with limited equipment, and the bed was uncomfortably low.

Overall, we had an okay 7-day holiday, particularly given the price we paid. However, I wouldn’t consider this a 5-star experience and we are unlikely to return. For a longer stay, I would choose a more comfortable and higher-standard hotel.

Lovely resort, great choice of food, pools are very nice and staff are friendly. Only negative, beware that they do try and palm you off with cheaper rooms when you've paid for a more expensive room. We arrived and was shown to our room, which was extremely disappointing to find a very basic room on the ground floor with NO seating other than a bed, and a stool by the very small dressing table, it was also teamingwith ant's. The shower was tiny with no curtain or screen, so the bathroom floor got flooded very quickly. When we went back to reception and showed that we had booked and paid the extra for a superior room, (which should have a seperate lounge area with sofa and chairs), the man on reception tried to palm us off by saying the room we had WAS a superior and that he couldn'tchange us. We spoke to the neighbours who were in the same room and they confirmed that they got what they paid for... a classic double, not a superior room ! So it became clear at that point that we were having the wool pulled over our eyes. We spoke to the lady on reception the following day and she agreed to move us, but couldn't for a couple of days, so we had to manage in the meantime until a superior became available. We finally got what we paid for after much persuasion, but there was no offer of a refund of the difference for the nights we spent in the basic room ! Check the itinerary of the room type you book. I've worked in hospitality and hotels for a long time, and this usually happens due to over-booking, which i suspect may have been the case. Other than this room issue, everything was great 👍

Just came back from a lovely week. The staff are fantastic especially gustavo in the animation team. His energy and enthusiam is fantastic. The hotel is clean but basic, we had a classic double room only complaint was the shower was so small and no curtain and flooded daily. The aircon was pretty poor but bed was maid daily aswel as clean towels. As for the food alot of pork dishes we didnt go hungry but would like abit of meat selection. We had a great week but would rate this hotel 3/4star
