Akti Imperial Deluxe Resort and Spa Dolce by Wyndham

I am extremely disappointed with our stay at Akti Imperial Deluxe Resort & Spa, part of the Wyndham group. This hotel is advertised as a 5-star all-inclusive resort, but in our experience, the standards fell significantly below what I would expect from a 5-star property.

Cleanliness was one of our biggest concerns. The public toilets did not appear to be cleaned regularly, our bathroom was not cleaned properly on a daily basis, and the towels provided were old, worn and certainly not what you would expect from a luxury hotel. The rooms themselves were dated and in need of refurbishment.

The poolside experience was equally disappointing. Everything was self-service, which I have never experienced at a 5-star all-inclusive resort. There were no snacks available by the pool, and drinks were served in plastic cups that often appeared dirty. We witnessed cups being rinsed/washed using tap water, which raised further concerns about hygiene.

Most concerning was the apparent outbreak of norovirus during our stay. In our view, the situation was managed extremely poorly. We did not see clear health warnings or notices around the hotel informing guests about the outbreak or advising them of additional precautions to take. Given how contagious norovirus can be, we found the apparent lack of communication particularly concerning.

There were numerous other issues. The lifts were frequently out of order, causing considerable inconvenience, and we found some members of staff rude, unhelpful and not particularly accommodating when concerns were raised.

Overall, this resort did not come close to the 5-star experience we expected or paid for. Poor cleanliness, outdated rooms, worn towels, disappointing poolside service, hygiene concerns and, most seriously, the way the apparent norovirus outbreak was handled made this a very disappointing stay.

Based on our experience, I would not recommend Akti Imperial Deluxe Resort & Spa to anyone expecting a genuine 5-star all-inclusive holiday especially since it was part of the Wyndham group. The hotel needs significant improvements in cleanliness, hygiene, maintenance, customer service and communication before it can reasonably meet the standards guests associate with a 5-star resort.

Wanted to give an honest overall review on this hotel. So here goes..// Got off to a rocky start arriving at 1am with our room not being ready. Rectified the next day. Caused a bit of an issue moving around with cases while you want ur holiday to start on day 1. Not great. Next few days went well , the food was great, lots of choice, different bars and entertainment at night. Pools are cleaned every morning. Plenty of sun beds although some do reserve and others just jam sun beds right next to you. Very rude. Then came day 5 when my wife got food poisoning. We had not eaten anywhere apart from hotel. She was ill for a few days and we missed a trip to Symi we had booked due to this. After looking online it became apparent several People had become ill at the hotel. Following this and To my horror I saw a huge cockroach crawl Up the wall whilst getting an omelette at breakfast. Disgusting to be honest. Put us of eating the rest of the trip. Honestly, the hotel is nice, but I would not return based on food hygiene standards. It is not a 5 star. We have been to 5 star hotels and this is not. It’s a nice 4 with major food hygiene issues.

I have been very lucky to stay at many hotels across the world but this however must be the worst I’ve ever stayed in.

From the first day our room was filthy and falling apart. Stains on bed, lampshades, fingerprints on mirrors and shower hanging off the wall. Complained to the receptionist (I believe his name was dimitris) who was horrible and didn’t want to know.

Anyway 3 days later we were changed into a nicer room in the main building. Which was fine and nice until one day the cleaners had left our balcony door open so all insects were inside!! Place was crawling with ants and spiders - even in our bed. As for the cleaning of the rooms, our beds weren’t changed once in the full week, nor was the floor brushed / mopped. From what I can see, they simply change the towels and make the bed.

The food is awful and repetitive. In our last 2 days, my partner and I fell sick with really bad diaherra and vomiting. There is so many others who also had the same. We could quite literally hear people being sick in rooms as we were walking past, as well as people being sick in the reception and pool.

I didn’t once see the hotel being cleaned - even the cups used around the pool are rinsed under water then put out again, no soap or dishwasher!

Pools are ok, again very dirty and didn’t see them being cleaned once. Plenty of sunbed but most are broke and hardly any shade which is fine for us but probably not great if you have kids or don’t like the sun.

I will say the entertainment was good during day with water polo etc. and they have ping pong and pool tables. To be honest that’s about the height of the positives.

Paying 5* prices (and room tax which was €110!!!) for a hotel that I would say is barely a 3. Save your money or pick somewhere else.
