Tropical Sol

Short 4 night break with a friend. We booked this hotel last minute as it looked nice enough, fairly priced and central. For what we paid, we certainly had value for money! Could not fault Katarina on reception, she was so friendly and enthusiastic every time we walked past always asked how our day had been and gave us really valuable recommendations, as we wanted to explore as much of.Kos as possible in our short time. The Hotel itself is basic, the rooms are dated, but the beds are comfortable enough and kept spotlessly clean. For the first couple of days, our bathroom smelt slightly of drains, however once we had used the shower several times the smell went, so I can only assume that maybe the room had not been used for a while as this was before the summer holidays. As for the location, you can’t fault it, a selection of decent bars and restaurants right outside the front of the hotel on the main strip and less than 10 minutes to the stunning beach of Tigaki.

The breakfast was basic, also but adequate. For a cheapy holiday, to use as a base I would thoroughly recommend this Hotel due to its location. We hired a beach buggy for three days and covered the entire Island; from Therma Beach, Kos Town, to Limnionas, Kefalos, Paradise Beach, Bubble Beach, to the sunsetting in Zia. We also took a Ferry from Kos harbour to Symi- €18 pp, then explored there by water taxi- incredible!!!

A wonderful holiday- wish we’d had longer!!

This is not a hotel it is just apartments with a reception area, that was very rarely manned. When we arrived late on the Sunday evening the lady behind reception was quite polite but there was a dark haired 25/30 year old man that was very miserable looking and had an attitude I wouldn't expect from a customer facing person. He was sitting behind reception too, picking his nose ( he also kicked a chair forward when tidying up around the pool area in a angry manner) and when I asked for some tea cups he looked very fed up that he had to go and get them. I also went to the bar to get some water and had the same sullen attitude from the bar man, really bored looking and fed-up, no pleasant interaction at all. When we got to our room it smelt very strongly of disinfectant, like a public toilet, it was very small and cramped with no tea or coffee making faculties. The shower head was not attached to the wall so had to be hand held, at this point we just wanted to leave. In the morning we went to breakfast if you could call it that, the only cooked options were cold fried eggs and cold scrambled egg with cold baked beans and no other vegetarian options, the continental breakfast was adequate , but you can't really go wrong with cold food-I must say the nicest thing was the Greek yoghurt and the bread was ok! The bowls for the cereal were metal cat feeding bowls not ceramic. We then went to reception to ask if we could be moved because of the smell and shower head not attached to the wall, the woman behind reception said stop speaking lots of words to me I don't understand you will have to come back later and speak to someone else in the afternoon it is not my job to do this!!! Astounded and astonished of the attitude and sheer rudeness of this woman! So we contacted Tui and they must have got hold of someone in the place because someone had let themselves in to our room and fixed the shower head to the wall, but we didn't get moved. The only positives were that the gardens was kept nicely at the front and the housekeeping staff were friendly and polite and the man behind the pool café was polite too! All in all a very disappointing place as there are so many lovely boutique hotels along the strip-go there if you can!

Just spent 3 weeks at Tropical Sol ,what a perfect holiday it was , hotel is situated in the middle of the resort great for the beach , restaurants,bars, of which there are plenty. The hotel is well run from the lovely reception staff who look after their guests with great customer care , hotel is exceptionally clean ,gardens well looked after, the pool is a very good size plenty of sun beds , there is a pool bar which do great lunches run by Yanni. I would recommend this hotel mainly for its care of it's guests. We will be back.
