EUROVILLAGE ACHILLEAS Hotel is situated in the area of Mastichari, on the Northwest side of the island of Kos.
Built upon a wonderful stretch of beach, it's a modern hotel complex with all its rooms scattered around the green gardens. The airport and the village of Antimachia are about 6km away and Kos Town is about 22km. (hotel shuttle bus to Kos town is available several times per week). Mastichari itself is a beachside village with about 700 inhabitants. It can be visited from our hotel just by taking a short stroll along the beachfront.
Your stay in one of our fully equipped hotel rooms (with Sat TV, fridge, telephone, hair dryer, safety box, A/C, will be utterly enjoyable while you will have the opportunity and the pleasure of looking at the sea, the marvelous sunset and the island of Kalymnos with its rich folklore history.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
To start off, we had a great holiday and really enjoyed our stay. The island itself has plenty to do and lots to experience, so I’d definitely recommend exploring beyond the hotel.
As for the hotel, I didn’t have too much to complain about. The rooms are slightly dated, but nothing that affected our stay. The staff seemed quite overworked, as they rarely appeared to get many breaks, but they still seemed happy in their jobs. Every member of staff we met was lovely and helpful, with the exception of the lady serving gyros, who came across as quite rude on a few occasions.
The pool area was one of the highlights. It’s a huge pool with plenty of sunbeds, although if you want the best spots you’ll need to be up before 7am.
The drinks selection was good, although I found many of the cocktails to be very sweet with lots of syrup, and the alcohol tasted fairly cheap—which is fairly typical for an all-inclusive resort. There is also a premium drinks menu available for an additional charge if you prefer higher-quality spirits. All of the bar areas were well set up and enjoyable.
The main buffet restaurant was decent. The food tasted good, but the selection wasn’t particularly large. We also ate at the Italian restaurant upstairs, which I really enjoyed—the pizzas and pasta were excellent.
The beach could do with a bit more maintenance. There was quite a lot of seaweed scattered across the sand, and the water wasn’t particularly clear. The rocks at the entrance to the sea are very sharp—we even saw someone cut their foot on them. Once you get past the rocky section, though, the water is lovely and the beach itself is peaceful.
The entertainment throughout the day and evening was impressive considering the size of the entertainment team. They put on activities from around lunchtime through until 11pm every day. Most of the evening entertainment was enjoyable, although one or two shows felt a little underwhelming. Overall, they did a fantastic job, especially with the poolside activities.
The only significant issue we experienced was with one of our rooms. We reported a problem at around 8:30am and asked if someone could take a look. Although I understand they were stretched due to staffing levels, nobody came to inspect it until around 6:30pm—almost 10 hours later—which was disappointing.
Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and I would definitely recommend the hotel. The facilities, pool and entertainment made for an enjoyable holiday. My only advice would be that if you’re a particularly picky eater, or you’re travelling with children who prefer a wider range of familiar food, you may find the dining options a little limited
It’s a lovely looking hotel set in beautiful well maintained grounds with its own stretch of sandy beach. It is quite isolated though but taxis are available.. We received a free upgrade to a family room which was gratefully received. Room was clean and fresh with a partial sea view. As we were a late arrival sandwiches, bottled water and cakes were provided - thank you! Unfortunately the cleaners only come every second day-I have no problem making my bed and rinsing sand out the shower but when the bathroom bin is used for waste toilet paper for 3 adults in extreme heat the smell isn’t good. Difficult to deal with yourself as no replacement liner or obvious larger bins available around the complex. The food is standard AI, very repetitive and very little proper Greek cuisine in evidence. Sausage and chips daily, all food verging on cold. It’s a bit like old fashioned school dinners. However, the glasses for chilled juice are always warm! The AI cocktails were ok but very sweet, Long Island tea the best, beer is fine, the wine undrinkable. The staff at all bars lovely but not particularly chatty. I feel the lady on the gyros bar gets a bad rep, yeah she’s not smiley, but she does her job in a hot kitchen well. So no complaints. The pool area is busy with no free loungers in evidence from early hours. Entertainment is the usual kids disco, karaoke etc The reception staff were all pleasant and helpful as were the cleaners when we saw them. We had a day trip to Kos old town and that was the first time we properly felt we were in Greece. The hotel itself could be anywhere so I’d advise day trips. We had a lovely evening meal in Zia (the sunset) and I’d recommend C&S Transfer for any journey, lovely clean vehicles and a delightful driver, full of chat and knowledge of the area. There’s a shop across the road for bottled water, snacks etc. The woman serving maintained a phone conversation throughout but the young guy was lovely and appreciated us attempting Greek. All in all it was a relaxing holiday with plenty sunshine but I’m not sure I’d hurry back to this particular hotel.
