Egeo Easy Living Resort

We recently stayed at Akti Coast Resort and, unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the standard we were expecting from a hotel of this rating.

On arrival, you’re given two bottles of water for your room, but after that you have to refill them yourself. While not a major issue, it wasn’t what we expected from an all-inclusive + resort.

The biggest disappointment was the cleanliness. Around the pool there were cigarette butts left on the ground throughout our stay, and unlike other hotels we’ve visited, we never saw or heard the pool area being properly cleaned down. The pool itself didn’t appear to have been cleaned during the week we were there and all round the edges was algae.

Our room also fell short. The shower wasn’t cleaned properly, the beds weren’t changed daily, dirty cups were left by the bedside instead of being replaced, and fresh cups weren’t provided. The balcony was unclean, and the finish around the balcony door looked incomplete and scruffy. Several cupboard doors wouldn’t close properly because the hinges were damaged. I think I had to ring reception most days for missing towels, cups, pillowcases and more.

The public areas weren’t much better. The restaurant often had food left on the floor, tables were sticky, and the bar tables were frequently dirty. There was a towel on the floor for about 5/6 days out of our 7. The toilets by the pool were in such a poor state that my sister-in-law ended up mopping the floor herself because they were so unpleasant to use.

The food was acceptable but very much standard all-inclusive fare, with little variety that stood out. The children’s options were limited. The drinks were all post-mix, very sweet, weak and often flat. There were also very few signs or menus, making it difficult to know what was available.

For families, there wasn’t much information about the kids’ club or activities, with no clear timetable or locations displayed. The family rooms also felt quite small, particularly the bathroom.

One thing worth mentioning is that the hotel caters predominantly to German guests. Much of the children’s entertainment, including the mini disco, was conducted in German rather than English, which left English-speaking children feeling somewhat excluded.

The towel exchange point is located next to reception, which is inconvenient if you’re spending the day by the pools.

Finally, we’d recommend giving the Italian restaurant a miss. It was by far the most disappointing meal of the holiday.

Overall, we still managed to enjoy our holiday because of the lovely weather and time spent with family, but the hotel itself was disappointing. With improvements to cleanliness, maintenance and communication, it could be much better. Based on our experience, we wouldn’t choose to return.

We visited for 5 nights…. We arrived late on the first night and went straight to dinner at the large help yourself buffet with a numerous range of dishes. It was a bit like a school canteen and tables were numerous and much activity. The food was average and customers were piling high plates with much wastage. The drinks were self service….help yourself beer and wine ….red (didnt try), rose (very weird colour and taste) and white (ok ish) …all served from a pump. Perhaps table service of alcohol would have been nicer and even table clothes? We choose to eat out on all the other nights as the food served was not a special occasion. The breakfast/lunch served in the same ‘canteen’ was acceptable and understandable but not the evening meal. Room was OK and we had a swim up pool shared with others and gave us peace and quiet to sit and read on our own sunbeds. Location very good for the beach and an excellent bus service (Euro 2.50 each way) took us into Kos Town where many bars and restaurants were. Entertainment was hit and miss…..so would we return? We worked around the 5 nights and preferred to eat out and have a bottle of wine with dinner rather than a tumbler from a machine. So maybe a short break is fine but a week or two weeks and we would be seeking to change hotels. Its a shame as it could with a few changes be a lovely destination.
