Atlantica Mikri Poli Kos

We had a generally enjoyable stay at Atlantica Mikri Poli, although there were a few areas that could be improved.

The system for the water slides was badly organised. Everyone had to queue at the bottom, but there was nobody managing the queues at the top. This resulted in long gaps when nobody was using the slides, even though plenty of people were waiting.

Our room was decent and had a very generously sized balcony. The maid did not always replace the coffee sachets, but when we contacted reception, they quickly sent some to our room. It was disappointing that bottled water was not regularly provided and had to be purchased from the hotel shop. There are two shops on site, but both are quite overpriced.

The pools felt a little cold, although there were plenty of activities around the hotel. Children can enjoy the kids’ club, aerial climbing frame and archery. Make sure children bring trainers, as they are needed for the climbing and archery activities. There are also games rooms, pool tables and entertainment taking place every evening.

Customer relations were excellent, particularly when helping us manage meals for our ten-year-old son, who has coeliac disease. They helped us order gluten-free meals and showed us which foods should have been suitable at the Asian restaurant. Unfortunately, the staff at the Asian restaurant did not appear to understand gluten properly. We were told that all the meat contained gluten because it was seasoned with egg, milk and cornflour, even though these ingredients are naturally gluten-free. This made us lack confidence in their allergy knowledge.

However, the main restaurant catered for our son extremely well. They made him gluten-free pancakes every morning and prepared whatever he wanted for lunch or dinner. The food in the main restaurant was good, with different themed evenings throughout the week. The snack bars were also lovely and served sandwiches and pizza.

The hotel says that reserving sun loungers before 10am is not allowed, but we did not see this rule being enforced. Plenty of beds were already reserved by 9am. That said, we could still usually find a sunbed by around 11am, provided we were not particular about where we sat.

The drinks were one of the weaker parts of the all-inclusive package. The spirits are local brands, the cocktails were poor, and the beer was drinkable but not particularly good.

The beach is very rocky across approximately 90% of the area, so beach shoes would be useful. There are water sports available, and the hotel is only a short walk from Kardamena.

Overall, the hotel has plenty to keep families entertained, the main restaurant food was good, and the customer relations team provided excellent support with our son’s coeliac requirements. However, the slide organisation, drinks, sunbed policy and lack of allergy knowledge in the Asian restaurant could all be improved.

Excellent all round service and thoroughly enjoyed my massage. Got all the aches and knots out of where I requested. Susan was 10/10 in her treatment of my needs
