The Met Hotel

The hotel staff stole my jacket from my room after check out and the manager on the desk did nothing about it - other than to tell me I was mistaken.

Location is a 30 minute walk to the city centre but it is not an interesting walk. The hotel provides a shuttle bus to and from Aristotle Square daily. This sets this hotel apart from others. The atmosphere is a little dark but the views from the rooftop bar and pool which provides great music and food though my Margarita came only half full, that was disappointing. The rooms are a good size and the balcony could do with a small table and a chair. The bathroom was also a good size but lacking a shower head and only a hand held hose which was difficult to navigate when washing your hair. The service was incredible but we have had better breakfasts. It was not cheap but not overly expensive.. Would stay again just for the service and the rooftop bar and pool.

We stayed at the Met for a week. There are good things and bad to comment on. Firstly the good. The breakfast is very good with a large choice. The staff are very polite and helpful. The shower in the room is exceptional. The hotel is very modern and stylish in its design.

Now the bad. The hotel is very noisy. Last Sunday evening there was an event on at the rooftop pool bar. The music was so loud you could hear it everywhere in the hotel and went on until midnight. That was bad enough without guests shouting at the top of their voices in the corridors and slamming doors well into the early hours.

There are maintenance problems in the hotel rooms. The air conditioning is very noisy and without it the room is very hot. There are flickering lights that need their lamps changing. There are so many switches in the room for various lights, you either try to remember which switches do what or go through a dozen switches to find the light you want. The door lock is a trial, it took one of the cleaning staff to show us that you need to pull the door then push to get into the room. You then need to shut the door 2 or 3 times before the catch engages. This explains why other guests needed to slam their doors in the middle of the night. The sound proofing of the rooms is poor with the ability to hear every word spoken in neighbouring rooms and in the corridor outside.

The location of the hotel is a real problem, there is a shuttle bus into the city, but the times change daily. The area around the hotel is scruffy and there are gangs of men with loud music from their cars in the early hours of the morning in the car park next door.

If you are visiting on a city break, I recommend you stay at a hotel nearer the city. This is not a tourist hotel, it’s geared up more for business travellers and conferences.
