Located in the quiet and picturesque village of Sissi in Crete, this family-friendly hotel offers guests an ideal environment for relaxing and enjoying the Cretan way of life. The hotel is the perfect base from which to explore the neighbouring towns of Agios Nikolaos, Malia and Hersonissos, or the monastery of St. George Selinari. The hotel offers a range of stylish rooms and suites overlooking the sea and Zeus Island, the majestic mountains, or the inviting pool and gardens. Guests can lounge by one of seven outdoor freshwater pools, rejuvenate at the spa, and enjoy the hotel's entertainment programme, while children will delight in the kid's club, playground and kid's spa. The hotel also has four restaurants serving international and local cuisines, as well as six bars and clubs to choose from. This hotel truly offers something for everyone, making it ideal for family holidays.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Booking a hotel that is still undergoing renovation is always a risk, but we decided to give it a try and did not regret it. Of course, not everything is finished and fully set up yet, but overall our holiday was comfortable, and it was actually interesting to watch the changes taking place during our stay. Some unexpected perks, such as a complimentary room upgrade with a sea view and an all-inclusive package that truly included all drinks compensated for the hotel's unfinished details and "teething problems." A huge part of our positive impression came from the people working there. The reception team was efficient and well-organized. The maintenance staff quickly fixed a couple of minor issues in our room and, unexpectedly, spoke good English. The housekeeping staff in our block were exceptionally friendly, and both our room and the entire hotel grounds were kept clean. The food and beverage service team was great. Special thanks to Calvin, Sherily, Malamatenja, and Maria. A few notes about the hotel in its current stage: ● Location The location would be perfect if the water at the nearest beach (just a couple of minutes' walk from the hotel) were not so cold. Apparently, there are cold freshwater springs on the seabed in that bay. There are other options for swimming in the sea, including a complimentary hotel shuttle, but they take more time. Going for a quick swim and then returning to relax by the pool is not really possible. ● Junior Suite Beautiful and spacious. The TV placement is somewhat inconvenient (see photo). There is no power outlet in the bathroom and no mirror in the room. The ventilation and air conditioning are excellent. Be prepared to spend a couple of days figuring out the light switches - there are a lot of them 😊 ● Restaurants The main restaurant is divided into sections, each staffed by very friendly assistant chefs. Everything was neat and well organized. Labels describing the dishes were rare, and during our 10-day stay there was no noticeable improvement in this regard. The other restaurants were not yet open, so for our à la carte dinner we visited the sister hotel, which is located very close to ours on the edge of the village. Beyond it there is no further development, and the restaurant offers stunning views of the bay and the mountains. After dinner, we walked back along the seafront (passing through the hotel to reach the promenade), and it made for a wonderful evening. ● Food The selection was not huge but perfectly sufficient and tasty. We were also very satisfied with the à la carte lunches and dinner. ● Drinks Good quality and a wide selection. I especially enjoyed the many smoothie options. My only criticism concerns the hot latte. In my opinion, it should contain about three times more milk (I always asked for extra). ● Pools They are not very deep, but the water warms up nicely. We were delighted to find a large quiet pool without music. This may change in the future, as the pool bar is expected to open in the next few days. ● Spa Excellent treatments and wonderful staff. The seawater pool used for thalassotherapy could benefit from some renovation, but it was still a pleasant and relaxing experience, and the atmosphere throughout the spa was lovely.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay 😊 Thank you to everyone who contributed to making our holiday so enjoyable.
My family have just returned home from a wonderful week at the beautiful Vasia Resort and Spa. We had high hopes for this newly refurbished resort and were not disappointed. The hotel is beautiful, staff are wonderful and the village of Sissi is stunning. We stayed in a sea view Junior Suite ( myself, partner and son) and were very impressed by our room. The resort feels high quality, relaxed and just busy enough to keep our 8 year old son entertained- he made many friends very quickly and cried when we left today! The pools were beautiful and we particularly enjoyed lunch at the poolside bar. Service was excellent throughout our stay. The kids club was great fun, and the staff were fabulous and we had full trust in them looking after our son when he chose to attend. Food was of a high quality, if slightly repetitive however the a la carte and local dining options provided more than enough choice. Thank you so much for giving us a gorgeous holiday. Sherilyn and Giannis deserve a special mention. Such friendly professionals who could not do enough for us. We also fell in live with Garfield, the resident cat 🫶🏼
We had a fantastic stay at Vasia Resort & Spa with our family and would happily return.
The resort is in an excellent location in the heart of Sissi. There is a large supermarket immediately next door, countless charming restaurants and cafés within a short walk, and the beautiful waterfront is just minutes away. It made exploring the town incredibly easy, especially with young children.
We booked a two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite for our family, and it was extremely accommodating with plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable.
It’s worth noting that the resort was only recently acquired by Marriott and is currently being renovated in phases. The renovated lobby, pool areas, and guest rooms are all beautifully done and give the property a fresh, modern feel. Based on what we’ve seen, I’m sure the remainder of the resort will eventually be renovated to the same standard.
The pool area is gorgeous, and our children absolutely loved the water park. The sea is only a two-minute walk away, where there’s a calm cove that’s perfect for swimming with kids.
The resort is exceptionally family-friendly. There is a kids’ club available for a small fee, and we appreciated how clean and well-maintained the children’s facilities were, especially the family bathrooms and baby changing areas. Everything felt thoughtfully designed for families traveling with young children.
The food was another highlight of our stay. The breakfast buffet offered an extensive selection and was one of the most hygienic buffets we’ve experienced, with food kept behind glass and served by staff. The seaside restaurant serves some of the best Greek food we’ve had—everything was incredibly fresh, and dining there while watching the sunset was unforgettable.
The management team deserves special recognition. They were warm, responsive, and genuinely hospitable. They even anticipated our late arrival and had food prepared for us in advance, which was a thoughtful gesture after a long day of travel.
We experienced a couple of minor hiccups with housekeeping and food and beverage service during our stay. However, given that the resort is in the midst of a transition and ongoing renovations, these felt understandable. More importantly, once we mentioned the issues, the staff addressed them promptly and everything was quickly put right.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and found Vasia Resort & Spa to be an excellent choice for families. With its outstanding location, spacious accommodations, beautiful facilities, excellent dining, and attentive management, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it and look forward to returning.
We returned to Vasia having had a beautiful holiday there in 2024. There have been changes since Marriot have come in to the mix, most for the better, some we have been assured will be improved once all the renovations are complete. The rooms are so lovely, clean, spacious, my 2 daughters were so happy to find they had their own floor up a spiral staircase with their own bathroom and balcony in the 2 bedroom family room we stayed in. With a bathroom downstairs and terrace for us, we were more than happy. The staff were amazing in every area, special mention to Sheryl, Simos, Adrian, Singh, and Richie around the pool (there are 3 pools but we stayed around the main one as it suited us better). Food was amazing in all the restaurants but our favourite was the Greek Restaurant by the seafront, beautiful food, especially the calamari! John and Esmerand made us feel like family and really made our holiday special. The entertainment wasn't as frequent as our last visit but the fire show is still on once a week and a dj slot has been added around the main pool on a sunday which we loved! Overall a wonderful holiday in Vasia, thank you to everyone who made us feel so welcome. See you again soon!
