Within walking distance from the sea, in a virgin piece of land, with the breathtaking view of Lefka Ori mountain range in the background, Carisa Maleme by the sea hotel is situated. A luxury haven in the area of Maleme Chania, in the region of Pyrgos Psilonerou, has been established to accommodate all visitors willing to indulge in an exceptional vacation experience and bask in a wide range of modern facilities, capable of satisfying the most demanding and sophisticated traveler.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Let me first say that I don't usually write negative reviews but in this case I feel that I should give the heads-up about this hotel.
We booked and paid for a Double room with sea view via Jet2 Holidays
The hotel has great curb appeal and the pool bar and pool area is kept immaculate by the mother of the proprietor. The reception area is spotless and features a stand containing some area information and LOTS of glossy leaflets promoting Jet2 excursions.
We arrived at the hotel in the early hours and dropped off outside with the bus driver pointing toward the reception. We were taken to our room and collapsed onto the bed. A long day.
DOUBLE ROOM:
The room turned out to be a Studio with a double bed push into the corner of the back wall and the window wall, this meant that one person needed to clamber into bed from the bottom.
The room was dirty, had numerous cobwebs and we had to ask the cleaner to remove debris from under the bed and wash the floor.
The shower tray leaked water, had broken and missing tiles and loose fittings.
Cloths storage consisted of a built-in alcove containing a shelf and a cloths rail.
Also in this alcove was a small floor standing fridge and a safe deposit box was sat on a built-in shelf situated 7 feet from the ground (2.1m in new money).
SEA VIEW:
From the upper floor you can actually see the sea if you look between the building site on left the new apartment block on right and then look over the tall bamboo like plants covering the wasteland in between.
BALCONY:
The patio furniture consisted of a Bistro table and two chairs on the very small balcony so narrow that you needed to place the chairs side by side with the table pushed up against the front wall.
PRIVICY:
It appears that numerous standard double rooms have each been split into two self contained studio rooms with the balcony area divided by frosted glass panels. The rear of our balcony consisted of a frosted glass panel which covered half of the sliding patio doors belonging to the adjacent apartment , we found this a VERY strange arrangement considering these doors lead directly into their bedroom.
Ground floor rooms had patio areas which were larger than those of the upper apartments , but unfortunately, these areas were also used by guests to access the stairs leading to the upper rooms, resulting in having to apologise to anyone sitting out as you passed through.
NOTE to Jet2 Holidays: It appears there is an established pattern of events upon arrival at this hotel. Your customers are being allocated poor quality rooms and then automatically offered a similar low quality alternative or a chargeable upgrade to a standard quality after raising a complaint. Numerous people who complained to the hotel regarding the room size, location or facilities were informed that standard rooms were available only as an upgrade of 10 to 15 euro per night due to the extra size. Our friendly Jet2 representative in their famous red top turned out to be a telephone number. People who contacted Jet2 via that number were told that small family hotels sometimes employ this kind of practice and that it would be looked into. Whatever happened to the Jet2 who at one time looked after their customers, accompanied customers to hotel reception to liaise in the event of any issue, actually investigated complaints. rather than offering set phrases of procrastination.
Brilliant little family run hotel. Room was a bit small tbh ,but large enough for 2 of us for 4 nights. Was very modern and very clean. The family that run the hotel are very friendly, and very chilled. The grounds and pool areas are kept nice. There's not much around the area , a few restaurants within walking distance , and all we tried were lovely. The beach is only 150 m away and although mainly pebbles is lovely.
Walkers/Hikers .. Look no further. The Carisa is ideally located for walkers of any standard. There are miles of flat, quiet little roads nearby, or, turn right from the front door, go 200 yds and cross the main road, and you are straight into rolling countryside with pretty little hilltop village, with plenty of tracks through the olive and orange groves. For the more energetic, the nearby peninsular has the 2395ft Tityros. You'll not get much better views in Crete. Nor will you find more more genuine hosts than Roula and Andreas, two absolutely wonderful people for whom nothing is too much trouble. Any decent walking app should show the vast majority of tracks in the area, plus the WWII battle sites and the much older Minoan sites.
Highly recommend this lovely hotel Our room was so clean and spacious with the choice of 2 balconies ideal if you want the shade or sun , air con in each room The pools where so relaxing to sunbathe around and the bar area had a good choice of cocktails , drinks and food The beach and restaurants are not far away with a bus stop outside if you want to explore near by resorts The staff are so friendly and a added touch the playful kitten We will be booking for next year for sure
My recent visit at Carisa Maleme Hotel was fantastic ! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room and all the place was clean and well-maintained. The hotel's location is perfect ( near the beach and very close to Platanias) I highly recommend it and would happily stay here again!
