- Atlantica Ocean Beach Resort

This four-star hotel in Maleme boasts its own private waterpark, with a range of different slides and attractions including a giant river, a ‘Black Hole' and a steep ‘Kamikaze' slide. Your little ones are sure to enjoy the hotel´s children ´s pool and playground whilst on their family holiday in Crete, Greece. There is also a kid's buffet option and a babysitting service. This Hotel in Maleme (Crete, Geece) runs an entertainment programme from May to October. It includes a “Mini Club” for 4 to 12 year olds, so your children are kept entertained on holiday.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Another amazing holiday we have had at Atlantica Ocean Beach. The staff are so welcoming and really do go above and beyond for the guests. As always, the food was incredible, with a variety of options to cater for all. Always love coming here with my family, we really do have the best time!
I write this review on the last day of our stay (1st week of September). This hotel is absolutely fantastic and hugely over exceeded my expectations having visited Crete a couple of times in the 90’s. There is far too much good to write about, I’d be here all day so I’ll focus on the things I’d change to make it nearing perfect. Bear in mind this is just what I’d change or improve so won’t be relevant to everyone.
Rooms - Very small for a family of 4 with older kids. Not much room to swing a cat. Balcony small and used to storing inflatables so didn’t get to use this.
Storage in Rooms - Nowhere near enough storage for a family of 4. Kids have lived out of suitcase. Not ideal but we managed. Take coat hangers x 10 if you can.
Beach - love having the sea so close but the beach is pebbled so you need water shoes to go in the sea. Great for snorkelling. You’ll see hundreds of fish near the rock area. We found a lovely beach at Agia Marina which is a 10 minute bus ride away. Amazing clear water and shallow for some way out.
Sports - Animation team are incredible. Some of the sports were taken up by guests probably as we’re moving out of season. My recommendation would be move the table tennis tables to the back of the complex as they’re a little out of the way. Would get much more use if there was a location nearer to the pool.
TV - No English sports or football 😞 Which was a shame. Would have loved to watch a few games out here.
Entertainment - Really good shows and events put on. Goes a bit flat at 10:30pm every night afterwards. Would be much better if there was an adults disco put on until the 1am (bar close time - all inclusive finishes at 12).
Drinks - loads of cocktails to get through plus the drink of the day is a good option. The beer is drinkable in the day but it’s far from premium. Love the self pouring facility but it’s comes out around 3.3% ABV. Essentially you can drink it all day and not feel the slightest bit drunk.
Inflatables - there is always a big pile of left over inflatables by the animation shed so check here before spending your hard earned euros.
Families - this hotel is perfect for families. My youngest was 9 but we found there families with much younger kids. Could be due to the time we visited (Our school goes back later than others)
Chania - bus journey is 30/35 mins. Buses get very busy but cheap to use. Around €11/€12 for family of 4 each way.
Restaurants - You get to visit the restaurants once per week. Both great but we weren’t able to get booked in until the last 2 days which was a shame. The Greek restaurant on the beach was fantastic and our fave!
Nice food, good value for the money but for our family was best the people who were taking care about us becauae all people works hard..i would like to thanks all barmans, lady Georgia on pizza and manager Efi..specially thanks to Elena..Věry empatic and nice person.
Great hotel, but particularly want to shout out to the staff - all of whom, without exception were warm, welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
We have just returned from 4 nights all-inclusive at the resort! We promised Ms Ritsa from Kids Club to write a fantastic review as both our girls (aged 2 and 4) had a fantastic time there.
We had an absolute blast during our stay there! Our main aim is for the girls to have an absolutely fantastic time before the school starts!
Where do we even ben begin! We were spoilt for food, restaurant had plenty of spaces to sit in! Drinks and food were hot and fresh! water park was amazing - the kids pool was great! not deep at all and i can chillax on the sunbed whilst watching the girl splash water and swim on their floats / unicorn ring / princess ring. The water slide for the kids was perfect for their ages; i was not concerned at any point, they could just stand up and water will be around below waist level which is perfect for them!! My husband went on the massive water rides on a doughnut and loved it!
What else! the beach was calm, and our girls just had their afternoon nap there easily! it was so relaxing. we booked a table at the restaurant right next to it! and the staff there was so accommodating when I mentioned I was vegetarian and allergic to garlic and onions. They really improvised there and then and i was not let down!
Highlight of the holiday was the daily discos for the kids; ever night 8:30pm to 9pm prompt. There were staff there dressed in superman and princesses and the kids danced with the song! I joined and thoroughly enjoyed it! They really encourage kids and family to join and the atmosphere was fantastic! followed after disco will be a show from 9:30pm. We saw the Shaolin African Acrobats which were so cool!! They had Chinese new year dragons lols and being Chinese myself that made me chuckle! The next day they had Wonderleds, group of performing artists should hula hooping skills; dancing skills; body bending talents and all sorts!! It was amazing! The third night it was Greek night and the girls weren’t interested in sitting still and listening so we went to explore the place. There were a little amusement area and a big paw patrol bouncy castle outside right next to the Resort!! We paid extra for the girls to bounce on the bouncy castle for $5 each per hour.
We actually got mislead! When we were looking for holiday destinations I saw within the On the Beach website and the pictures a massive bouncy castle which i thought was included with the all inclusive and as part of the Resort, but it was extra charge unknowingly. Nevertheless, the girls had a blast and that was what mattered!!
There was a mini store right beside the kids club and entrance to the water pools; reasonably priced to be honest and had all sorts for guests to buy including a range of kids inflatable; vests; toys; holiday essentials all in one place!! We bought an extra doughnut ring and it didn't inflate! The lady exchanged it for us which was very nice of her. We bought a massive inflatable bed adult size and my husband manage to ask one of the lifeguards to inflate which was very kind of them!!
They had hourly specials like one day it was a special hour of candy floss; the next day it was special hour of milkshakes. Queues were sometime 5 - 10 mins or so during peak times. Unlimited ice cream and pizza; burgers until 6pm i think.. breakfast lunch and dinner were nice.. I couldn't fault it..
What else.. oh! Kids club was nice for the girls! Ms Ritsa and the 2 beautiful girls there was so lovely!! They made us feel so welcome! The daily face paints; creativity sessions and one time the girls joined the mini kids’ yoga for half hour which was so funny and cute!! My youngest 2 years old was trying to copy the lady whilst playing on a toy and started to mess with her toes lols my eldest 4 years old tried her best to relax and follow instructions. They had an indian facing theme one day and both my girls had their face painted! Other times our girls chose frozen theme or princess designs and they were so gorgeous!! I would recommend having a mini-indoor play area with balls and soft play which will be cherry on the top!! It would be a hit for sure!!! Overall, we love the staff there, the girls don't want to leave kids club! They thoroughly enjoy their time there! Beside the kid’s club is a sandy park with a couple of slides and couple of swings, my girls enjoyed playing there too.
Overall, our stay there was amazing, the staff was polite and kind. I would recommend other family to consider this place if they are looking for a child friendly and family-oriented destination!!
Thank you for having us Atlantica Ocean Beach Resort, we will be back!!
Love from Diane, Will, Olivia and Amelia!!!
