This charming resort hotel is set right next to a gorgeous sandy beach in the tiny resort town of Kokkini Hani, halfway between Heraklion and the larger resort town of Chersonissos. The hotel features 441 air-conditioned guest rooms, family rooms and bungalows with warm, cheerful décor, en suite marble bathrooms, mini bar, and satellite television. Guests can wake up to a satisfying breakfast buffet in the main restaurant and dine in the Chinese restaurant, and can find tasty treats and refreshing drinks throughout the day at the café, traditional tavern, and five hotel bars. The hotel also offers an extensive range of facilities and services to meet the needs of even the most discerning guests, including six swimming pools with two waterslides, a kid's club and playground, sports facilities and wellness centre, a wholly luxurious spa centre, and bilingual staff providing 24-hour reception, babysitting services, and an on-call doctor, among other services.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
I stayed at the mitsis Rinela for 10 days. What originally drew me to the resort, was how beautifully aesthetic the resort appeared on the resorts page and various different social media platforms. The videos and photos made the resort appear as though it would not be overrun with children and overly crowded, sadly that was not the case.
Let me say, if you are a childless couple or friend group, maybe avoid this resort all together. Kiddy day care on steroids is the only way I can describe this resort. I have always stayed at family resorts and hotels, yet I have never experienced anything like the vibe I have at the Rinela.
What makes it worse is there is no where to get reprieve from the children, including the gym. Wanna sip your drink by the pool? Forget it, all you’ll get is pool water being constantly splashed into your drink, by the endless amount of kids jumping into the pool right on top on the sun loungers, there is no pool side etiquette at all.
There isn’t much room at the resort and everything is on top of each other, making it feel a little claustrophobic at times.
The inside main buffet area was decorated to look like a UK care home and was just not pleasant to sit in at all, always very hot. You can not get your own drink at the buffet, I would sometimes have already eaten half my meal before being able to even request a drink during the busier hours. You’d also have to avoid all the buggies parked in some of the most ridiculous places, making it very hard to manoeuvre around the seating area. The sitting area outside was more pleasant, with a nice view and a breeze.
There were strange electrical cuts, that would happen often, but not last very long, this also affected the water pressure while getting ready for the evening. This was not addressed, it seemed this was normal for the resort, judging by how everyone acted. This did seem to improve towards the end of our stay.
The filling of our room mini bar was very hit and miss towards the end of our stay, as was the poolside service.
The resort was pretty, and the staff were friendly. The food was that to be expected for an all inclusive. The restaurants within the resort were delicious.
It was a shame that the expectation did not meet the reality at all.
This is a lovely hotel, the staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is lovely. Only one little issue was we booked a swim up obviously paying extra, there were not enough loungers around it and you are sharing with 6 other rooms and they can bring as many guests as they like so ours was packed. One family staying on the swim up brought their other family members who were not staying in the rooms. So be mindful if you’re expecting your own little section with seating like we were. Rest of our experience was great just wish we hadn’t paid the extra as we only used it once
Absolutely incredible place lovely people and amazing and activities. Special thanks to the people in hub 17 who were so nice are respectable but also good at making it a nice welcoming.
Very disappointing stay. This hotel is nowhere near the 5-star standard it claims to be.
The reception staff were rude, dismissive and unhelpful whenever there was an issue. Customer service was poor throughout.
The food was repetitive, often lukewarm and lacked quality. Cleanliness was also below average, with dirty tables and communal areas regularly left unattended.
Overall, the hotel doesn’t live up to its marketing, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
Had a great time at this resort. It has everything that a person could wish for. The staff is very friendly and they love children, they are very hardworking and kind . Amazing sunsets and lovely view.
