King Minos Retreat Resort and Spa

Unfortunately when we went for a 10 day stay late September we were treated with the storms and cooler weather. Obviously that is nothing to do with king Minos resort. Our room was nice but unfortunately again due to the weather we only managed to use the pool once in 10 days and the sun didn’t bless the patio area much due to the building structures and shadowing. The hotel was absolutely spotlessly clean and really lovely. We asked for firmer pillows and they were delivered. Bathroom was great but there was a constant drain smell which I think is due to the sewers in Greece not the hotel as such as it was spotless. All staff were great and made us feel very welcome. The drinks were fab on the AI menu. The entertainment is disappointing and all entertainment is held outside by the bar which isn’t big enough when the hotel is busy and not so great when it’s cold and raining. Also delivery Lorries drive in the road right past the pool in the daytime which is a bit rubbish and next door was major construction works going on all day. The food was nice but not very hot and in the restaurant we got wet as the roof leaked during the bad weather. Service for drinks was a bit slow in the hotel restaurant but all staff were lovely and working hard. We did experience a weird incident in the bar with a drunk couple but the top lady boss stepped in and sorted it all out she was very good. The à la carte restaurant food was quite bland and salty and the steak we couldn’t eat that as it was really tough and inedible shame as it looked lovely. The location was good and close to the main town about a 20 minute walk. The nearest beach wasn’t very good and moving around the resort would not be any good if you are disabled that said it kept us fit going to the restaurant each day up the hills. Not sure if we would go back here but if you do go make sure you venture to koutouloufari, and surrounding villages and book a Tuk Tuk tour. Bar staff were great fun, and the housekeeping staff work so hard. We didn’t use the spa as we thought it was quite expensive for 30 minutes treatment.

We’ve just returned from a seven night stay at King Minos and had an absolutely wonderful time. We stayed in a garden view hot tub room on the half board option.

Service was exceptional. Every single member of staff from check in to check out was friendly, helpful and polite. Antigoni from the spa made a point of having a chat everyday, which was lovely.

When the buttons to control the lights in our room stopped working one midnight following a power cut caused by a storm (absolutely not their fault) a member of security came straight away to help sort it. We then received a lovely bottle of wine and a follow up call from management the next day to make sure everything was back to normal. This was a really appreciated gesture.

Our room was clean, well-maintained and had everything we needed (a coffee machine with enough pods to last us, hairdryer, robes, and iron). We really liked the fact there were USB/USB-C ports in the walls so we could easily charge devices without an adapter.

House keeping staff had our room made up by the time we returned from breakfast each morning. We used the hot tub every single day and it was so worth paying for.

My one suggestion would be to have firmer pillow options or perhaps an additional pillow available in the room.

The half board option was perfect for us as we were able to eat lunch out of the resort or buy snacks. We were also able to swap one of our dinners for lunch on a day we were eating out in the evening.

The breakfast and dinner buffet were brilliant. I’m a meat eater and my partner is vegetarian and we both felt there was a very good range of options. We both had the fruit/continental/salad bar as well as hot food and were always satisfied with the quality. We liked that there was a mixture of traditional Greek food and other options. Alternative milk (including soya and oat) was available.

We used the gym a few times and thought it was well-equipped and nicely maintained. There was a good range of cardio equipment and weights/machines. My one suggestion would be to have a mat available for any floor work.

My partner had a head massage at the spa which she really enjoyed. Staff were attentive and she was able to use the heated pool afterwards, which she enjoyed.

This was mine and my partners first luxury holiday and it was a very pleasant experience. We were greeted on arrival and given a small drink. The tourist tax is €15 a night, once the papers was signed we were escorted on a golf buggy to our room. They had filled the fridge with drinks and food as we arrived at midnight and they knew everywhere was shut which was a really nice touch. We had a room with a private pool which was lovely just unfortunate how cold the water was , it was actually that cold we didn’t use the pool at all. Another thing I would say which is not the hotels fault and perhaps based on the time of the year, the sun would come and go from our balcony by 12pm so by mid day we would have to use the main pool for some sun. The resort is based on a hill so be prepared to get some steps in. We were only half board which included breakfast and dinner, there is an option, the day before, to swap your dinner for lunch which we did a few times. The food is basic but nice, the deserts were especially good. The main pool area was quiet and relaxing. The staff were pleasant, a couple of random things did go missing from our room which I would hate to point fingers about but I didn’t find these items when I unpacked back at home. The resort is clean and very appealing and I would return.
