- Gouves Bay Hotel

The hotel is located on the main coastal road of northern Crete, just 20 min from Heraklion airport. It is ideal for a quiet relaxing holiday. This small and compact resort is both welcoming and friendly. Gouves is connected to Heraklion, the capital city, by regular bus service every 30 minutes. Also Hersonissos is in the same vicinity (only 10 min by bus).
The hotel-resort is situated close to the sea and a small church combines colorful atmosphere, nightlife and the magic of the blue crystal clear sea. The hotel offers rooms with balcony with views either to the pool, the sea, the mountain or the garden.
All rooms are equipped with telephone, Satellite T.V, music channels, refrigerator, hair dryer, bath or shower, air-conditioning and safe boxes both available with extra charge.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Hello. That hotel is not 4 stars, maybe 2 maxim 3.My expecting was high and i was deceived. Good point: Staff is kindly Bad point: Old hotel(outdated) A lot of cats in a 4 star hotel? Food is average Pool is too deep The couch in the lobby were dirty and to old. The area is very boring. The first room where I was hosted was dirty. If you have expectations to a 4 star you will be disappointed. Thank you.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
We recently stayed at this hotel for 10 days and, overall, I would say it felt more like a 3-star hotel rather than a 4-star.
Unfortunately, our room wasn’t very tidy when we arrived, which wasn’t the best start to our holiday. We also experienced power cuts on 8 out of our 10 days, which was very disappointing and did affect our stay.
On the positive side, the food was really good. There was a very good choice every day, with plenty of options even for picky eaters, so we were very happy with the food.
The location was good, although the beach nearby was quite rocky, so I would recommend taking suitable footwear if you want to use the beach.
The entertainment was okay. We had around 3 really good nights of entertainment, and the entertainment staff were funny and made an effort to get everyone involved. The bar staff were lovely and very friendly. Unfortunately, the cocktails weren’t very good, but the Baileys iced coffees were absolutely amazing and definitely a highlight!
One thing I was particularly unhappy about was our all-inclusive being stopped as soon as we checked out at 11am. As we didn’t arrive until around 10pm on our first day, we had already missed most of that day, so I feel the all-inclusive should have been available for us for longer on our departure day.
Overall, we enjoyed parts of our holiday, especially the food, the friendly staff and some of the entertainment. However, with the room not being tidy on arrival, the frequent power cuts and the all-inclusive ending immediately at checkout, I personally wouldn’t rate this as a 4-star hotel. For me, it is more realistically a 3-star hotel.
Travelled with family so was really looking forward to a nice break. First night we had to be moved as the room was not what we thought we would get. Leaking toilet, sink was pink with what looked like makeup and the shower had at least 6 months of lime scale. Be careful in the pool if you're not a good swimmer, as it goes deep pretty quick. Gardens were unkept. The food was good and the staff lovely. The rooms and gardens need quite a bit of tlc. Overall, we would not go again
Pool was dirty on arrival - noticeably green! Turned my daughters pink bikini green - and another family we spoke to had the same issue - pictures included of how it was on arrival and last day comparison! Lifeguard was great - intereacted and talked to my children which was nice! We used the hotel mainly as a base the first couple of days so noticed after a couple of days the pool was clean. As stated in other reviews sometimes the smell in the room was unpleasant, other than that the rooms were fine. Not many sunbeds but we never had issues getting one when we wanted to. Food on offer was good, as a family of 4 we all found something to eat each meal we went in. All inclusive alcohol drinks were not the best in my opinion, but thats down to personal taste - i ended up drinking Pepsi the whole holiday after trying every cocktail and not liking them. Bar staff friendly. Didn't see much of the entertainment, live band was good. Didn't see much entertainment round the pool for kids in the day which was disappointing. All in all found the hotel ok definitely not a 4*
The hotel is clean and comfortable enough, just not quite as advertised, there are a few niggles like the beach, if you want a sandy beach with loungers and umbrellas you have to walk down the road, it is only a five minute walk to the nearest which is small and really good, but not just outside, and the pictures of the rooms must be from the newest part because our room doesn’t look like that, but it is comfortable so I can’t complain, the staff are amazing and exemplary! They are so friendly and helpful and polite, they truly make the whole experience worth it, and there’s a few cats around and we had a cute little hedgehog that visited our patio that my youngest called Timothy
