Excellent resort - stylish, very clean and in a great location. Excellent food, let down by inconsistent service
We stayed at Anemos in late July and had a deluxe double suite (two adjoining rooms) for two adults and two children (aged 11 and 14).
Firstly the positives - the hotel is stylish, well laid out and immaculately clean. The room was amazing and the best room we have stayed in over the 6 trips we’ve done to Greece in many other resorts (not all to Crete). The resort is on a fantastic location right near Georgiopolis and not far from Rethymno (90km) and Chania (60km) - it is also 5 mins away from Lake Kournas which was one of the highlights of our trip.
The food is (on the whole) exceptional - with many good choices of great quality at the main buffet restaurant which is lovely and also at the various al a carte restaurants; although we weren’t blown away by the quality at the Italian, Meat/Grill or seafood restaurants. They are very good - but not “a step above” the quality of food at the main restaurant to be honest. But very good all the same.
Generally, the service was good, but not excellent. You expect excellent for 5 star rating. I say good because we had many great examples of friendly, attentive service which made us feel special and what you’d expect at a 5 star resort - but we also had too many examples of the following during our stay:
- waiting ages to be served when sit down at the restaurants
- having to go and find waiters/waitresses to refill our coffee at breakfast. Once or twice is OK but everyday?
- the various “transport hubs” around the hotel (which are supposed to be serviced by guys driving golf buggies around to take you places) don’t work - we never got picked up once although we waited at many stops
- staff “going through the motions” and not smiling or looking like they couldn’t care less
- staff too busy taking to each other in little groups to realise that e.g. our plates need to be taken away etc.
I’m only giving a four star review for these things.
On the whole, the resort is great. Very stylish, super clean and in a great location. Service is good, but not consistently great. It didn’t diminish our enjoyment of our stay and we would happily come back in the future. The plisses far outweighs the negatives. I would recommend the resort.

Fabulous
Lovely place great staff and food. Only downside when we arrived there were mosquitoes all over the ceiling in our room. Also the bed provided for my daughter was a camp bed. This was changed for a proper bed by the hotel after I complained. The mosquitoes also disappeared. We meet some great people and had a fabulous time.
