The Filion Suites Resort and Spa is a tranquil traditionally styled property offering excellent accommodation on a 17 acre plot surrounded by olive trees close to the village of Bali (2 km). Bali itself has a selection of shops, bars and restaurants and a small, well protected bay that is excellent for swimming and water sports and with a complimentary shuttle bus service 7 times from 09.00am to 18.00 pm daily to the beach, guests can get there with ease. The taste of a cocktail or a snack next to the sea breeze is a memorable experience. The friendly water sports staff, will welcome the guests for a trip around the bay on a water-ski or fun-ride or take it easy in a canoe or pedalo with local charge. Private yachts, motorboats and catamarans are available for rent and sail, too. Tours/excursions service, wake up service , ironing service and a luggage storage is available. There are plenty of facilities for everyone at the Filion Suites including three renovated large outdoor swimming pools, two outdoor children's pools, tennis court / basketball ground / table tennis, a kids play area, an indoor playroom and a conference hall. The spacious fully renovated outside area with private terraces overlooking the beautiful gardens provide stunning views of the majestic Cretan landscape. Guests will also find an internet corner and those with their own computer can enjoy FREE Wi-Fi connection ALL around the Resort. The hotel offers also currency facilities to change on-site and the reception stuff will advise you how to visit the famous Cretan sightseeing. Every Thursday noon a cooking lesson by creating Greek Specialties is provided free from our kitchen Chef. A Lovely Stay with a Few Areas for Improvement
Overall Experience
My girlfriend and I had a lovely time at Filion Suites Resort & Spa and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday overall. There were some fantastic aspects to our stay, although a few areas could benefit from improvement.
Room & Housekeeping
Unfortunately, our original room was very disappointing. However, after speaking with the lovely lady at reception, she moved us to a much nicer room, which we were absolutely delighted with. We really appreciated her help.
The room was lovely and clean on arrival, but housekeeping during our stay was a little disappointing. Cleaning seemed to consist mainly of mopping the floor every couple of days and emptying the bins. Despite putting out the sign requesting a proper room clean on several occasions, the bedding wasn’t changed, and towels were only replaced after we asked. It may be that towels need to be left on the floor to signal that they require replacing, but we weren’t aware of this.
Staff & Service
Most staff seemed focused on their jobs rather than engaging with guests, which personally didn’t bother us. However, a few really stood out for going the extra mile. The lady at reception, a gentleman in the buffet and a young man at the bar were all particularly memorable for their friendly service and efforts to build rapport with guests.
Pools & Bars
The pool and bar near our room were modern, attractive and very enjoyable areas to spend time in.
However, cleanliness around the pools could be improved. The main pool had what looked like algae staining around the waterline, while the water walkway between the lower seating area and bar had dead insects and leaves that didn’t appear to be cleared daily. Bins around the bars also filled up quickly and seemed to be emptied only once a day.
Food & Drinks
The alcoholic drinks were a pleasant surprise! If you’re worried about weak or poor-quality drinks, you needn’t be. We found them very enjoyable and definitely strong enough.
The bar snacks were another nice touch, with plenty of choice and usually very tasty options. However, be aware that snacks available at 16:00 may have been sitting out since 11:00, although fresh food was sometimes brought out later in the day.
The buffet offered a decent variety and was usually very tasty. If you’re a picky eater, the choice may feel a little limited, although there were generally chips, pasta and at least one familiar option available. For those happy to try different foods, we found it a lovely dining experience overall.
Location & Getting Around
The resort is approximately a 15-minute walk from Bali, making it a good option if you fancy getting out and stretching your legs. Alternatively, a shuttle bus runs to the resort’s restaurant in Bali, close to the beach. From what we understood, the shuttle ran approximately hourly, roughly between 09:00 and 19:00, although we can’t confirm the exact timetable.
Gym & Facilities
The gym is adequate for keeping active on holiday, but don’t expect a fully equipped fitness centre. It has dumbbells up to 20kg, two treadmills (one of which was unreliable), two exercise bikes, flat and decline benches, a chest/incline/shoulder press machine, a leg extension/curl machine, and a lat pulldown/row machine.
The biggest omission for us was a squat rack with a barbell and weight plates. Adding one would make the gym considerably more useful for anyone wanting to maintain a proper strength-training routine while away.
Final Thoughts
Overall, we had a lovely holiday at Filion Suites Resort & Spa. The attractive pool and bar areas, enjoyable food and drinks, convenient location and a few genuinely lovely staff members all contributed to a positive experience.
There are certainly areas where the resort could improve, particularly housekeeping, pool-area cleanliness and some of the gym equipment. However, the excellent response from reception when we raised concerns about our original room deserves recognition.

Lovely holiday - but....
A lovely week in Crete, but a few things to be aware of
We spent a week here and, overall, had an enjoyable holiday. The hotel was pleasant enough, the staff were generally nice, and Crete itself is beautiful. However, there are a few things I wish we'd known before booking.
Airport transfers: This was by far the biggest frustration. We booked return transfers through loveholidays, expecting to be taken directly to the hotel. Instead, we were dropped off some distance away at around 3am and told someone would collect us. There had been no warning about this, and we were left waiting while the driver took passengers to the hotel in groups. We eventually reached our room at around 5am.
The return journey was also confusing. We were told to meet our transfer at the original drop-off point and had to pay an additional €10 for a taxi to get there. Once there, we discovered our airport transfer was actually a taxi that had been waiting for us, but nobody had told us this. Better communication would have made a huge difference.
The hotel: Nice enough, but in my opinion not five-star standard. The food was enjoyable but frequently lukewarm, and the reception toilets could have been cleaner, with some fittings needing maintenance. Our room had a kettle and cups but no tea or coffee supplies.
The beach: The hotel provides transport to a nearby beach, which is a nice option, but it's quite small and you have to pay extra for sunbeds, so bear that in mind.
Once we'd caught up on sleep and got over the transfer fiasco, we had a lovely time. There's plenty to see and do in Crete, and we enjoyed exploring the local area and visiting some of the island's sights.
Would we return to Crete? Absolutely. Would we return to this hotel? Probably not. It's a pleasant enough place for a holiday, but manage your expectations regarding the star rating and, most importantly, check the airport transfer arrangements before you go.

It’s a real shame as it has the potential to be a great resort, as per most reviews it doesn’t feel like a five star resort . Rooms were very clean, but rest of the experience was really underwhelming. All our party had upset tummy’s, (two people unwell for 24 hours) we think hot snacks areleft out all day in the pool bars. When it rains they put towels on the floor of communal areas (five star ??) food in the restaurant is not warm, they are aware as there is a microwave in the restaurant (five star ??). We found staff to be a little dismissive, there were a couple of members of the team who were helpful and smiled. Whenever I’ve been to a hotel before, I’m working out at the end of the holiday tips for the staff, but really struggled to work out who I should tip.
