Mitsis Royal Mare

It doesn’t matter whether you go to a really expensive hotel or a cheap one it’s the people there that make or break a holiday and the staff that we met at the Mitsis really made our holiday a good one.The buggy drivers were always there with a smile in a flash when you needed them. Maria was the main lady that looked after our room she did a great job and was really lovely we were sad to say goodbye to her. Ervisa was lovely too and went out of her way whenever we needed anything. The fridge was refilled every other day so we always had plenty to drink in the fridge. We were given a suite which had two bedrooms , seating areas and two bathrooms it was a detached ground floor building with a shared swim up pool and a larger pool within the complex both pools were freezing but ok once you were in, the suite was perfect for the four of us, there were plenty of plug sockets but it was odd that some would only work if the lights were on. We tried to sit at the same table in the main buffet each day Allan was so attentive if you just looked up he would be there straight away making sure that you had everything that you needed. Marta and Elsa were friendly and helpful too.We are very fussy eaters but usually managed to find something at each meal time to eat. We had an evening meal and breakfast buffet at the Pacifico which were both very good although as a vegetarian I struggled slightly in the evening but the staff found an alternative for me and on Friday mornings a man plays the piano there which is lovely to listen to. The Italian restaurant is really just for lunch as it closes at 5pm, my favourite was the Candia the Mediterranean restaurant. The hotel and grounds are lovely more like a village than a hotel however there is a lot of uphill walking to do to get from the beach to the main reception and buffet restaurant, I hired a mobility scooter from Harry at Crete mobility scooters and it made such a difference to my husband who has mobility problems and would never have been able to get around and enjoy his holiday without it, although the hotel buggies are great it meant that he could get about throughout the day without constantly pestering them. The only place that we had trouble accessing with the scooter was the spa because the scooter didn’t fit in the lift and there is no step free access. The beach is made of lots of little stones and bigger rocks as you enter the sea which I didn’t find a problem as I had swim shoes,there are plenty of beds available on the beach and a bar on the seafront the staff at the bar weren’t particularly cheerful but the trainee lady at the food service was nice and my husband loved the chips that they serve at the food counter there. We enjoyed shopping at the summer stores shop near the Italian restaurant,Marina there was friendly and I used the book swap a couple of times which was useful. We took a ride on the land train which you pick up next door at the sister hotel, it was a bit of a bone shaker but gave us a good view of our side of the Island. We had never been to Greece before and I think that we made the right choice of hotel to pick for our first trip there and would love to return.

Hotel and staff was amazing, food was lovely especially the Asian restaurant
