Mirabello Bay Luxury Resort

Exceptional holiday, such a beautiful resort with outstanding facilities. Particular fave for my family and I was the Elia restaurant and Becky!! This hotel is a real tongue twister. I certainly feel it’s not a 5* and I wholeheartedly believe that when it was the Wyndham Grand Crete it was probably deserving of that rating. However, if rated again now, I suspect it would attain a 4* rating.

Starting from the beginning, the arrival service, receptionist, cold towels, concierge and complimentary upgrade were great.

The staff were always friendly and the room service is also really good.

There are some big bug bears, however, starting with the buffet. We found it wholly inconsistent and there really wasn’t enough Greek food. Out of the 7 days, there was only really one meal we really enjoyed and that was the pork Gyros for lunch. After breakfast, there’s no need to or fresh food until lunch. So make sure you don’t miss it, otherwise, the only choice you have until 12:30 is a snack bar or sweet hut. Both of these have the leftovers from breakfast. The cakes, croissants, fruit and has browns! I was shocked when I saw this and couldn’t believe how lacklustre their efforts were.

I supposed we have been spoilt with the other 4 and 5* hotels having pool bars where you can get chicken, chips, salad, crisps, sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs. Not here, there’s no such thing.

Before we arrived the weather had been off, but we were lucky, for 5 days we had 26 or 27 degrees. The last two days weren’t great with rain and thunder. This resulted in multiple outside restaurants closing, their pool bar and beach bar also closing. Rather be-musingly, this left one bar open. One bar, at an all inclusive hotel with between 700-1000 guests.

In our room, the second door to the balcony located in the living area did not lock. I have raised this with our booking process to feedback to the hotel. We found the entertainment very limited. Lots of families reading books, watching movies on devices and playing card games to entertain themselves.

I feel like there are some very minor issues here and if fixed this hotel could really excel. This is a 5* hotel, not a 3*. I understand cost analysis and benefit. But it’s not acceptable to use yesterdays spaghetti to make and egg and spaghetti bake for breakfast, nor is it acceptable to use left over speck for ham in the lunch and dinner pasta, the same with the left over breakfast being used for a “snack bar”. Spinach and cheese pies for lunch, breakfast and dinner.

There was only one souvlaki with pita on one evening. They only served Gyros once and there was only hummus on one meal. This is a Greek hotel with little to no Greek food. There was plenty of Italian fusion and even an Italian themed night serving the best Italian wine “Cretan rose” checks out.

The whole food service is just a confused mess. This really needs to be hosed down and built up into a Greek culinary delight. Not a European cover story.

The part was so important! Everywhere we drove on the island we saw the freshest Pomegranates, oranges, figs and prickly pears growing everywhere. Such amazing, exotic and season fruit. Yet, not a single one of these, other than oranges were served. Such a shame.

I did not want to write this in a critical manner, however, I just feel that the Facilities, entertainment and food management are just mismanaged and with some educated guidance they could elevate the entire experience.!
