- Eleftheria Hotel

The hotel is situated in the region of Agia Marina, a coastal area 8 km west of Chania. It was built on a hill, around 850 meters away from the sea. The advantageous site of the hotel on the hill, in a peaceful, natural environment, offers magnificent sea views as well as the opportunity to spend a quiet holiday in a friendly, family environment. It has 66 rooms spread across three buildings and features a breakfast/ dining room, a lounge equipped with satellite TV, a playground and parking lot. All of the rooms are equipped with an en suite bathroom, a telephone, a TV, a fridge, a radio, individual air conditioning and a balcony, offering views of either the coast or the surrounding gardens. Leisure facilities include a swimming pool as well as a children pool, pool bar, gym and sauna.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We chose this hotel largely because of the many reviews describing it as warm, friendly, and welcoming. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.
The hotel’s strongest points are its beautiful views. However, the overall service fell well below our expectations and significantly impacted our holiday.
Throughout our stay, staff generally appeared disengaged and unapproachable. Friendly interaction was minimal, non existent and several other guests we spoke to shared similar observations. This was particularly surprising as we have always found Greek hospitality to be exceptionally warm and welcoming.
The location may suit some travellers, but it is worth noting that the area is quite commercialised. At the bottom of the hill you’ll find the main road, restaurants, shops, and the beach. Those seeking a more authentic Cretan atmosphere may prefer Old Town Chania. We particularly enjoyed the tavernas around Rokko taverna( put that into google and you will quote a few delicious places to eat around there) , which offered excellent traditional food and much friendlier service.
The room itself was disappointing. The bed was uncomfortable, and the bedding was not fitted properly, exposing a stained mattress protector underneath. Bathroom was small. Housekeeping was also inconsistent, with towels occasionally removed and not replaced.
Breakfast lacked variety, particularly for vegetarians. The fruit selection was limited, orange and watermelon everyday. Given Crete’s reputation for fresh produce, we expected a wider choice of local fruit and more varied options overall.
The most concerning issue occurred when €100 went missing from our room. While I appreciate that cash theft can be difficult to investigate, I reported it to reception simply so management was aware. The matter appeared to be dismissed without any visible attempt to investigate or follow up, which left us feeling uncomfortable and unsupported. Granted I should’ve put cash in the safe or in a safe place, although I’ve never had this problem before.
Overall, the hotel has potential because of its setting and views, but our experience was let down by poor customer service, inconsistent housekeeping, and disappointing food. Based on our stay, I do not feel the hotel reflects the positive reviews that influenced our booking, and I would not choose to stay here again.more a 2 star
What an excellent hotel this is. Wonderful location. Beautiful pool area. Very clean throughout with well kept gardens. Downsides. We didn’t care for the tea/coffee machine at breakfast and felt that they could have been better located. Also, the tables round the pool could be cleaned more regularly. However, these are minor gripes. We had a fantastic holiday and will be returning next September. The complimentary minibus is a great service. Thank you to all of the staff. See you next year!
Great place with awesome views
A lovely hotel, with great views and a very nice pool/ bar area. There is also a pretty and well maintained garden. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms and pool area are cleaned daily to a high standard. The beds are comfortable and the A/C helps you get a good nights sleep in the hot climate.
There is a great selection for breakfast, which changes daily, everything we have had whilst staying has been very good. Including food and drinks from the pool side bar.
The hotel is in a position that allows easy access to Agia Marina and Chania. There are lots of lovely restaurants and Tavernas to try in both. There is also a lovely restaurant called Thoro a 5 minute walk away.
Our stay at the Eleftheria Hotel has been lovely. I would highly recommend staying here.
I give this hotel a 3.5 stars, and I would return if I wanted a very relaxed getaway. We will start of with the pros, lovely check in with reception gave us all information about the hotel On a sheet, rooms were big clean and had great air con and had a book explaining the area and what you can explore or tours also has so much more information at reception. Also has a dnd or make up room sign on the rooms, a fridge which was great at no charge. All areas of the hotel are clean and well looked after beautiful layout with amazing plants everywhere, beautiful views all around of the mountains and the beach. The bar has an alcohol menu and then a food menu great food but little selection to choose from does smoothies which is great but takes some time to come out due to only having two people work on the bar, they have entertainment some nights and will slip an invitation under your door. The walk to the strip is about 15 minutes I didn’t find it difficult to do so wasn’t a problem, has alot of restaurants and bars but you do have to walk further along we walked about 15 minutes more down the road to find different restaurants, has loads of beach side restaurants which is beautiful when the sun is setting. We had our room made up for us while we was here and it was made very nice and cleaned and had fresh towels on the bed only thing I did notice is that they didn’t change the sheets it was re made with the same sheets so not great as we was there for a while so I would like fresh linen. At the end of the hill if you turn right there’s a taxi service which is great you just ask to go somewhere and I have always been able to get straight in and never had any money problems so we visited chania twice
Now we will talk about the cons, as said before the bar didn’t have much selection on the menu and took a while to get our food as there’s only two people working the bar and I think the bar shuts at 11/12am as we went down there at 12 And it was shut. Due to the size of the hotel (having 3 separate buildings) I thought they would have another pool or at least more sun beds as half way through our holiday more People showed and we couldn’t get sun beds for the rest of the holiday. It is away from the strip But if you use the shuttle bus it’s so much easier but if there’s more than 8 people they have to come back for you which is a pain as you’re waiting even longer for it. Cleaning ladies were unbelievably loud at 7am dragging stuff or there trolleys rolling, the building seems to be quiet thin as you can hear a lot of what’s going on in the hallway, ceilings and walls and it’s just luck if you get people that are respectful enough to be quiet. Bathroom is small you have to half shut the door to get to the toilet and the shower is very small width wise me and my other half would hurt our arms on the door or the shower wall. The bed sheet is ridiculous it wouldn’t stay tucked underneath the bed so I would have to remake the bed every night. The WiFi itself isn’t great drops out a lot or doesn’t work so get an eSIM, on our last day a cleaner let herself in at 10am and I stopped her as my other half was naked as we was getting ready to leave but check out is 11am so I’m not sure why she was coming in an hour before check out and not even knocking to check if the room is empty either so that made me a-bit uncomfortable, doesn’t help there’s no lock on the inside of the door so couldn’t even lock it myself and they would know I’m still in the room. The area itself can be busy but it’s not a busy area there’s no entertainment anywhere and a lot of restaurants and bars shut at 12am latest.
We would return as it’s a beautiful hotel and did really enjoy ourselves but there’s so many other places that are more of an interest I would say this is more a family / older couples area / hotel.
