- Atlantica Amalthia Beach Hotel

Located directly on the sandy beach of Agia Marina, this modern hotel is 9 km from Chania. The water is shallow for approximately 30 m, making it an ideal place for families. One can swim to the protected islet of Thodorou where traditional Cretan goats live. The hotel offers 62 rooms, currency exchange, WIFI, outdoor pool with children's section, playground, medical assistance, bicycle rental, car hire and free on-site parking. Wheelchair accessible.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Just spent two weeks at this hotel were it is on two sides of a busy road and connected by a walkover, our room was on the beach side which was comfy, but outdated the view from the room was fabulous looking out over the pool and the sea. The location is ok with several places to eat many of good quality. The hotel has three pools, two in the new part of the hotel and one in the old which is on the beach. To get a sunbed in the morning you had to get up between 6.30 & 7.00am and lay on it until 8.30am otherwise your towel is removed by the General Manager, (feels a bit like staying in an army camp) but once 8.30 has past you will find all who have wanted to do this ritual then left and did not return for at least 4 hours. The place is spotless and the staff work very hard (some more than others) At this point we would just like to say Thank You to Andrianna who works at the beach/pool bar, she very friendly, hard working and always had a smile for the guests. The breakfast is excellent and caters for all, only ate a couple of times round the pool bar and the food was of good quality, but drinks are pricy, two or three times a week the hotel provide entertainment, to be honest I don't know why because are not very good. It can be noisy in the late afternoon until the early hour this due to a beach party club next door but one to the hotel. Overall I don't think this hotel is worth the price they charge, also there is a 10 euro per room, per night tourist tax to pay. This needs to be considered if on a budget. Sadly we won't be going back to this hotel.
We recently stayed at Atlantica Amalthia from 14th-21st July 2026 for our honeymoon, and we had a really good experience.
The hotel is less than an hour’s transfer from the airport, making it an easy start to the holiday. We arrived late in the evening and were delighted to be told we’d been upgraded from a garden view room to a sea view room. The view was absolutely stunning, the room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, and the daily housekeeping service was excellent throughout our stay.
The hotel is split across two sites on either side of the road. We spent most of our time at the upper pool. It has a peaceful atmosphere with beautiful sea views, relaxing background music, and friendly, attentive bar staff. There was never any competition for sunbeds, which made it even more enjoyable.
Each lunchtime we went down to the lower pool on the site across the road and beach area for a change of scenery. This area was a little busier but had a great atmosphere, and we really enjoyed lunch at the beach bar.
We also would recommend going to the beach for sunrise. It was STUNNING!
Unfortunately, I became ill during our holiday, but the hotel staff couldn’t have been more helpful. They offered guidance and kindly arranged a late check-out for us, allowing me to rest comfortably before our flight and enjoy our final day after missing out on part of our honeymoon. We were incredibly grateful for their kindness and flexibility.
The location is a highlight. There are supermarkets, restaurants, bars, and beach clubs all within a short walk. If you head just behind the main strip, you’ll also find some lovely, authentic tavernas serving local food. There’s a bus stop directly outside the hotel, with buses to Chania Old Town approximately every 20 minutes. The journey takes around 25 minutes, depending on traffic, and costs just €2 per person each way.
Overall, we had a fantastic honeymoon at Atlantica Amalthia. The combination of the beautiful setting, excellent facilities, outstanding staff, and convenient location made it a memorable stay. We would happily recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in Crete and would love to return ourselves.
Wow, what a beautiful 2 week stay at this lovely hotel. We stayed in the newer part of the hotel I the delux room which was absolutely great. Fantastic power shower, really comfortable beds, fridge and ample storage. Had a steamer instead of an iron which worked really well. The ladies that cleaned the rooms daily were brilliant, big shout out to Nikki who was our housekeeper, great job girl!👏🏻 This hotel is as good as it gets and it’s mostly to do with the fantastic staff from housekeeping to beach bar, management etc….. Manolis and Nichola greeted us on arrival, and we knew from there that this would be great. It was my wife’s birthday while we were there and the team were so very thoughtful which was greatly appreciated. So many staff to mention , Marianna, Angelina, Kiki,Katrina, Antonio, Adrianna and every one I didn’t mention. You all Rock guys!

Our 2nd visit to this amazing hotel, and wow it was even better. On arriving at hotel, greeted and booked in and then took away to our room 155 which was perfect, last year we stayed across the road but felt we would prefer the beach side and the choice was perfect. room was clean perfect view and had flowers wine as it was our honeymoon, quickly got changed and went to beach bar for our first holiday drink which was a perfect as I remember. Some of the staff last year was here still and greeted us like friends and we knew we had made the right choice. We found out that the sunbeds on the beach are 15€, which includes 2 beds umbrella 2 cold ice waters cold flannel and piece of fruit. At first we thought expensive as you can walk up beach and have a sunbed as long as you buy drink , but the atmosphere is no where as good as the hotel beach, but be aware that familys with children can use the beach for the day but not the facilities of the hotel which didn't happen last year.
The pool ares are ok but very rammed and are free but we prefer the beach setting with sea breeze. restaurants are amazing, just go on google maps and you will find the most hidden restaurants which need booking a table as very busy our favourite was Rustic garden. All the staff are hard working and big shout out to Antonis , one of my favourites was Kiriakos such a hard working man and Giannnis and beautiful Marianna who was lovely and always opened my straw for my gin and tonic as I had trouble opening it lol nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The cleaners worked hard and kept our room clean tidy and stocked up on towels as beach pool towels provided. The girl who worked on the beach serving you drinks with the biggest smile every day . The lovely guy who cleaned the sunbeds every day and raked the sand always had a smile and said good morning to me before his morning swim. This hotel is amazing and friendly and even if you were travelling alone you would make friends easily cause its a lovely family atmosphere and we would come back in future.
