Rodostamo Hotel and Spa

Having read other recent reviews of this hotel it seems to be a recurring theme. The staff, as everyone says, are exemplary. We only ate in the pool bar and every one of them was so attentive, despite working very long hours. When we booked we chose a room with a 'garden view.' We were on holiday with another couple who had a room on the same floor. Our balcony view was a corrugated rooftop and theirs was a small yard which was filled with a collection of rubbish, The rooms however, and indeed, the hotel in general is spotlessly clean. I agree with a previous review that the 'superior' rooms are significantly lacking in hanging and storage space. The tea/coffee tray is very basic. We too were puzzled as to why we could not sit in the lovely air conditioned foyer and have a drink from the bar, and did not know that this had been closed because it was too popular!!! We opted for half board so that we could go out for days. We did not realise that this prohibited us from eating in the hotel restaurant. It did feel slightly humiliating to be turned away in front of other guests. We ate mostly as the pool bar and the menu was great, apart from when you have eaten there for a week and it remains the same (with the exception of the odd dish of the day). The pontoon on the water front would be lovely but it is not maintained and has been taken over by some local geese.

We stayed for a week in the Rodostamo and found impeccable cleanliness allover the complex (rooms, restaurants, elevator, garden and especially the perfect pool) and an overwhelming friendliness of the staff. The part of beach belonging to the hotel is not really inviting, but with a car you can discover the whole island of Korfu which is just lovely and offers interesting sights like following musts: the monastery in Paleokastritsa (- don´t forget to make a foto of the memorial icon), the ghosttown of Perithía, Kap Drástis (if you are lucky and find parking space) and Kaiser´s throne as well as the Canal d´Ámour. The hotel complex is more than vast and even prides in a cable elevator up the hill. We booked half board and the breakfast buffet was allright, but the evening menus were downsized compared to the menu non-residents were offered and quantity does not make up for quality. It was nice for the eye, but it didn´t change over the days and meats and fish were principally rare to have. Maybe, that´s just common use in many hotels, but we expected more compared with other 5 star hotels in the many other places we stayed before.
