Hotel Yannis Corfu

A paradise just 5 mins walk to the beach at Ipsos and 30 min drive from the airport A peaceful and charming family run hotel with lovely gardens and sea views . Great Greek breakfast and immaculate bedrooms . Staff couldn’t be more obliging . Have been twice and will return next year . Terry List

Horrible rooms and receptionist. Please avoid unless necessary. We were staying here for 7 nights and realized it's not possible to stay here after 4 nights and requested a refund for the last 2 days given the following reasons with evidence. But the gentleman at the reception said to allow the cleaning team to come in, which we were already doing, which had no relevance.

1. Air conditioning close to not functioning and limited to 23 degrees as the minimum while being around 15/20 years old. Even with it on, we can feel the mold in the air and this was present from the start of the trip. They told us this is just how all the rooms are, which shows the quality. Then he even said that it doesn't matter if the temperature goes lower because they don't function lower, imagine how arrogant you need to be to say this to a guest. Even the clothes stored in the wardrobes were damp by the end of the trip because there's no ventilation even if you leave the balcony mesh open.

2. If we choose to use the balcony, it allows insects inside because they have not sealed their balcony door which allows mosquitoes and centipedes through the gaps I showed them and in the pictures. But it's Greece so it's hot so you can't even sleep well with that temprature. Opening the balcony also means all the sounds that you hear during your sleep. We had to kill the mosquitoes ourselves or deal with the smell of the mosquito repellent within such a small room.

3. The shower is close to unusable because we can't even bend down without opening the shower doors. This is a shower made for children and it stinks all the time since they don't have an exhaust, just a small tilt window that makes you hear other bathrooms so clearly like a dorm. Not a 3 star experience.

4. The walls are so thin we can hear everything from other rooms including the sink which is as loud as 80 decibel so you wake up each time someone uses a sink next to you. Additionally, the fridge cannot be used because it's so loud at around 50 decibel and barely cools things.

5. They act as a 3 star hotel but it's just a gimmick, they don't even provide towels for the pool. Only the breakfast and location is good.

If you want to actually sleep in the night or even stay in a room that you paid for, avoid this hotel, especially due to the arrogant man at the reception.

We booked a short break of just five nights and were delighted with Hotel Yannis on our first trip to Corfu. My expectations were not overly high having read some of the reviews but we were pleasantly surprised. We arrived quite late into the evening and check-in was quick and efficient. We booked a sea view room and were happy with the standard of the room. The air-con worked just fine and there was a bug screen on the patio door. We had no issues with bugs. The shower cubicle is very small but we coped. I can see how others may struggle. There is a lack of anywhere to put toiletries in the bathroom but for a short stay it wasn't an issue. There is plenty of storage in the room and a safe. Our two main issues were 1) the bed was incredibly hard (every time I turned over it woke me up!) and we found it difficult to get a good nights sleep 2) the sun comes streaming into the room as it rises - a black out curtain would be a good addition. That said, the room was spotlessly clean as were all the areas of the hotel. We found all of the staff to be very pleasant, polite and smiley! The pool area is wonderful and there is no dawn scramble to secure a lounger. It was very chilled and we never had an issue getting somewhere to sit. It's a great pool with lovely views of the mountains and out to sea. Being high up you are away from the hustle and bustle of the town which we preferred. The surrounding garden areas are lovely too with a giant chess set and pool table. Food and drink options during the day are very good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was probably about average with a reasonable choice of all of the usual things you would expect. The orange juice and omelettes were particularly good. Again, everywhere was very clean. The walk down to the town is quite steep and the walk back up to the hotel is worth noting (especially if your transfer minibus drops you at the foot of the hill!) but it is a pretty short walk until you are amongst the shops, bars and restaurants. In spite of the sleeping issues we would definitely return to experience the chilled peaceful atmosphere, wonderful views and hospitality of this cute family run hotel.
