Conveniently situated in Agios Ioannis Peristeron, on the beautiful and bright island of Corfu, this stunning accommodation is the ideal place to stay when visiting this destination. Nestled on the green mountain, visitors will be enchanted by the breath-taking natural surroundings and the blue Ionian Sea that extends right in front of the establishment. Corfu’s town centre is 16 kilometres away and Corfu International Airport is at around 15 kilometres away. All the air-conditioned rooms are fully equipped with modern amenities such as a satellite TV and boast great views to the sea, the hotel’s swimming pool or the mountain. The property offers several dining venues such as a restaurant, a lobby bar and a pool bar. Among other facilities, travellers may pamper themselves with a refreshing swim at the saltwater, outdoor swimming pool.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
I recently spent four days at Canvas by Mitsis Belvedere hotel in Corfu, and unfortunately, my experience did not match the advertised 4-star standard. Online offer does not match with the reality.
The hotel itself is very dated and in need of refurbishment. The lobby contains old sofas and couches, and cleanliness in the common areas was inconsistent. On one occasion, someone dropped ice cream on the floor, and it remained there for several hours without being cleaned. There was not even a warning sign to indicate the floor was slippery. Our room was quite small and basic, we had a small flat TV, kettle, wardrobe, desk with a mirror, bathroom, and balcony with two chairs. The bed was uncomfortable and very hard. We were initially given two single beds pushed together, so if you want to sleep together, you have to request a topper. There was no full-length mirror in the room, which was inconvenient, and the shower had no holder, meaning we had to hold the shower head while washing.
Room cleaning was inconsistent and often very late in the day. On one occasion, we returned around 6pm to get ready for dinner and were only then asked whether we wanted housekeeping. While fresh towels, toiletries, and working air conditioning were provided, the cleaning itself was superficial. There was visible dust underneath the beds, and the room lighting was very dim. The corridors were also poorly maintained. It was common to see dirty plates and cups left for many hours. We often noticed them in the morning and then again later in the afternoon. But this is not the end… The food was one of the biggest disappointments. The selection was very repetitive, with little variety from day to day and almost no traditional Greek dishes. I ended up eating bread with feta cheese and lettuce for both breakfast and lunch because there was no food to choose from. Typical options included baked potatoes, spaghetti, steamed cauliflower, fish pieces, and fries. Potatoes vinegar flavoured. There was a coffee machine, juice machine, and one soup option each day. The pizza was particularly poor, with a thick doughy base, and much of the food tasted low quality. Food was often served cold, and a microwave was available in the restaurant because many guests needed to reheat their meals. The scrambled eggs and sausages also tasted cheap and lacked flavour.
The restaurant itself felt cramped, with tables positioned very close together. At busy times, it was difficult to move comfortably between them. Guests often had to sit outside due to a lack of indoor seating. Smoking was permitted outdoor and there were no designated non-smoking sections, which could be unpleasant for families or anyone sensitive to cigarette smoke.
Entertainment was limited and generally uninspiring. During the day, there was some water polo and music played by a staff member connecting a phone to a speaker. Evening entertainment consisted mainly of live music performances near the pool area. Overall, there was very little engagement or variety.
The pool bar served alcoholic drinks mixed with soft drinks from dispensers. The drinks tasted cheap and certainly did not meet expectations for a 4-star hotel. The hotel's main positive feature is its beautiful sea views and the availability of sunbeds near the waterfront. However, this alone is not enough to compensate for the overall experience.
In summary, I do not recommend this hotel. It falls well short of the advertised 4-star standard in terms of accommodation, cleanliness, food quality, service, and entertainment. If you have other options available in Corfu, I would strongly suggest considering them instead.
Great Hotel, the best staff we have met so far, and we travel every year to Corfu. Reception ladies, extremely polite they really go above and extra miles to make our stay special. We felt like we are priority, and anything we needed we received. Also entertainment lady Lorna and George (lifeguard) are very lovely and friendly. Finally the kitchen staff, also deserve a shout out for the hard work they do!
