Saint George Palace

A lovely cozy, family friendly hotel, even towards the end of the season. The hotel is tucked away in the middle of nowhere , surrounded by beautiful wild nature, yet only a five minute walk from the beach. One of the highlights was the cleanliness. Our room was cleaned every day, with fresh towels provided regularly. There's also a little cute bar, and the staff were always friendly and welcoming especially the ladies at reception.! Next time we ll definitely visit during summer!!

Quite simply, worst hotel we’ve ever stayed at. Location: situated on a hill about 10min walk downhill to the beach which is lovely. Sun beds (2 beds and parasol) on the beach are €10 for the day.

Hotel: so dated and poorly maintained, do not be fooled by the nice looking fountain and entrance. It’s goes rapidly downhill the minute you go through the doors. Be prepared to stump up the €10 per day resort fee in cash the minute you arrive. We had to pay by card which had an admin fee. They still have the tatty covid 2meter stickers on the reception floor, lol. Stair banister rails missing and wobbly. Ladies toilets in the reception had opaque glass doors and didn’t lock. Can’t blame the hotel for this, but had a power cut one day in the thunderstorms from 3am till 10am, so toilets didn’t flush and no running water. Wi-Fi only in the reception area, so don’t expect it in the rooms. Bit of poor Wi-Fi signal by the pool area. As we were on a hill no mobile signal either.

Hotel room: safe didnt work and shower head kept coming off. Reception did deal with the shower head. Shower enclosure obviously used to have glass sliding door, but now replaced with a cheap lightweight shower curtain. Tiles in shower chipped and rust and lime scale everywhere in bathroom. Was expecting shampoo and conditioner in the shower, only nasty hand soap provided in a dispenser like you get in a train station toilet. Slat missing from bottom of bed (though I’m not tall so didn’t worry me too much, but needed to remember not to sit on the end of the bed, or you’d fall through the frame. Balcony was a shared terrace and our internal door didn’t lock, only the shade door locked, so not very secure.

Pool: could barely see the bottom and was closed for a couple of days. Sun beds by the pool, old, broken and so uncomfortable, you could feel the metal bars. Poor area decking, broken, bouncy and splintering. Towels - we bought our own, but if you need to hire one, it’s €10 deposit and €1 cleaning fee.

Food: if you like warm repetitive overcooked school dinners, then this is the place for you. Had to queue for chipped plates and cheap cutlery all the time, and if you dared to leave your table to get up to get a drink, then your cutlery would be gone when you got back. Small food service area for a 4star place, so the queues were painful even going in later. Tables and chairs dated and uncomfortable and food dropped onto the floor would be looked at by staff as they walked on by…numerous times. Cats (Corfu loves their cats) roamed the food hall and eating areas.

Bar snacks consisted on stale ham and cheese sandwiches and lettuce wraps. There was a bowl of Greek salad in the bottom of the fridge, but by midday, you could smell the cheese wafting from the “fridge” when queuing for drinks. Drinks machine covered in insects, and coffee machine broken most of the time. Wine and beer were rank, and they ran out of tonic water for 2days straight, so had to go any buy own from supermarket to have with the gin. Cocktails were pre-made syrup, so avoided those. Majority of drinks served in disposable plastic cups, which were left lying around to attract more wasps. We ate out 80% of the time as the food and drinks were so poor, so factor this cost in. Coffee around €5-7, breakfast for 2 around €20, 2 course evening meal for two drinks was about €50-€70

Things to do in the area: Bus into Corfu Town leaves at 07:20, 10:30 and 14:50, and returns at 13:30 or 16:30. Cost €4.40 p/p each way. We also hired a car for the day from Alexandrobikes (where you also get the bus tickets) which was €30 for a fiat punto.

In summary….nobody we spoke to there could understand how this place gets 4 or 5 star review. It’s the first holiday where I couldn’t wait to get home.

CRITICAL UPDATE: Immediately after I posted this authentic 1-star review earlier today, the hotel flooded their page with suspicious 4/5-star reviews from brand-new accounts created this month to bury my comments. Do not trust the sudden waves of perfect scores! For every 1 or 2 star review, look at when the following accounts were created with the 4 or 5 star reviews after. I can see why Trip Adviser has put an alert on this hotels pages now. I also reported the suspicious reviews. So, I’ve now reposted my review….with the edit. Too late for us, but I hope this review saves someone’s else’s hard earned money and holiday.
