King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort

Let me start with saying this is 100% not a 5star resort. 2 star max!

If your looking for threadbare dirty beach towels that you can only change every 3 days (minimum), cold food, dirty main areas, pools never cleaned, dirty sunloungers (if you get up at 4am, you might just get one), lifeguards don't have any qualifications to be lifeguards, room barely cleaned and full of mould, shower is freezing then hot enough to burn you, had to ask for bath towels to take a shower at one point, ignorant /aggressive staff, chainsaw cutting trees down before 9am so you won't need an alarm clock and family's who have no rules and let there kids run feral playing football in the lobby ect than this is the place for you.

Hotel is no where near anything, so taxis are a must or you can hire bikes to escape the hotel chaos. Three separate taxi drivers, advised hotel is one of the worst in Paphos.

This was suppose to be our family honeymoon and sadly we couldn't wait to get home. Honeymoon ruined.

TL;DR

You get what you pay for — no less, no more. This is not a true 5-star hotel, but to be fair, the price we paid also didn’t reflect a real 5-star hotel experience.

Full Review

First, I’ll say that almost everything in this hotel makes you feel like they are trying to save a few euros at your expense.

When we arrived at the hotel, my wife wasn’t feeling well. We got there around 12:00, and I asked the reception staff — who were not particularly friendly — if there was any chance we could get the room earlier. They didn’t seem to care about the situation and simply insisted that rooms are not given before 15:00, no matter what.

At the same time, they handed me a paper offering the option to pay €50 in order to receive the all-inclusive wristbands immediately. Otherwise, we couldn’t even get a glass of Coke. Since we were with a baby and my wife wasn’t feeling well, we decided to pay, have lunch, and then go to the pool.

When we came back to reception at 15:30, the check-in itself was fairly quick, but we were given a three-page document full of rules, restrictions, and instructions. It honestly felt more like an instruction manual than a hotel welcome.

When we got to the room, even though we had clearly mentioned in the booking — made directly through the hotel’s official website — that we were coming with a baby, there was no baby cot in the room. Unfortunately, the phone in the room also didn’t work, so even though we were exhausted and just wanted to rest, I had to walk all the way back to reception to tell them we had no cot. By the way, the broken phone was never fixed during our entire stay. It then took a full hour for the cot to arrive.

The room itself was very spacious and quite comfortable, but you can definitely see that it is a bit worn out and could use some renovation. The water pressure in the shower was very weak, and water kept splashing outside. The air conditioning also struggled most of the time, and then suddenly at night it made the room freezing cold. On the positive side, the room had a nice balcony, and when we arrived there were three soft drink cans and a bottle of water in the fridge for free.

As for the all-inclusive experience, as I said at the beginning, everything felt like the hotel was trying to save a few euros on every little thing. At the pool bar, you can only get drinks or ice cream — nothing else. If you want any kind of snack, you have to go all the way to the dining room, dry yourself off, and sit outside in the heat just to eat something small. The pool bar sometimes had a queue and sometimes didn’t.

Food-wise, this is definitely not a 5-star experience. You can always find something to eat, but I don’t think the goal in a 5-star hotel should be to “find something to eat.” You expect either a wide variety, which there wasn’t, or very high-quality food, which also wasn’t the case. The food was okay, not great.

Breakfast was exactly the same every single day, without even a small change, which surprised me in a hotel that presents itself as 5-star. Lunch and dinner also didn’t have a big variety — usually around 4–5 main dishes and some side dishes, again not with a huge selection.

In terms of facilities, the hotel has a small playroom that is mainly suitable for toddlers. For us, that was actually great because our baby is one year old. The pool is excellent. We were there during peak season and didn’t feel that the hotel was too crowded at any point during the holiday.

That said, on two out of the four days, there were no available sunbeds by the pool because they were all already taken, so we had to sit far from the pool and closer to the bar.

The hotel also has a water park, and for all-inclusive guests the entrance is free, but we didn’t try it because it wasn’t really relevant for us with a one-year-old baby. From what I understood, you are not allowed to bring food into the water park, and if you want to eat there, you have to buy food separately. That feels a bit silly when you are already paying for all-inclusive.

The staff, however, were wonderful and were definitely the bright spot of the holiday. The waiters in the dining room and lobby, the bartenders in the different bars around the hotel, and someone who I believe was a manager walking around the dining room and lobby checking that everyone was happy — they were all very kind and helpful.

Overall, the hotel is worth the money, but don’t come expecting a real 5-star experience. Think of it more as a relatively affordable 4-star experience, and then you’ll probably be satisfied.
